“There’s nothing to misunderstand, detective. I love you.”
Yubin was at a loss for words.He wanted to let himself give into the comfort Sebastian was offering. But the image of Felix, uttering similar words, turned Yubin’s stomach over.
“I must go.”
“Yubin-”

A black cat slowly prowled the library, looking at Sebastian cautiously.
Sebastian remembered what Ominis had said the first time they’d encountered the feline.
“That’s Yubin, Sebastian.”
“What? How?”
Sebastian had picked off a strand of cat fur from his uniform, and held it up to the light to inspect it. Now, in the lamplight of the library, he looked down at himself. There it was, black strands of fur on his vest. Was it Yubin?
He looked up. The cat had ducked behind a bookshelf.
“With all due respect, Mister Gaunt, I have eyes that see, and all I could see was a pretty black cat in need of my attention and affection.”
Ominis had rolled his eyes.
“So be it then, Sallow. But let me remind you that my wand is charmed with advanced magic to allow me to perceive the world around me, and it recognised Yubin’s magic on that so-called cat.”
Now it made sense. The cat had made its way around the bookshelf, peering at Sebastian curiously.
Trusting Ominis was right (and when had Ominis ever let him down?) Sebastian lowered himself onto his knees, and extended out his hand to the cat.
“Psst psst. C’mere kitty.”
The cat tilted its head.
Sebastian felt stupid. If this was Yubin, he couldn’t imagine the humiliation he would feel.
“Come on, kitty kitty. I don’t want to hurt you. I just want to talk.”
Merlin, what was he doing?
Yubin was probably enjoying his embarrassment. Sebastian sighed.
“Yubin.”
The cat made its way to Sebastian, and leaned into his leg. He scratched behind its ears, and stroked its back. Yubin’s fur was soft, and Yubin nuzzled into him.
“Merlin, Yubin. When did this happen?”
The cat didn’t respond. Typical.
Instead, Sebastian watched as it darted behind the bookshelf, and a few moments later Yubin appeared, a grin on his face.
“Psst psst. Come here kitty-kitty! Good kitty-kitty.”
Yubin cooed, approaching an awkward Sebastian.
Sebastian scratched the back of his pink neck shyly.
“Merlin, I’m never giving a black cat anything from now on.”
“It was cute!” Yubin laughed.
He nuzzled into Sebastian’s side.He looked at Sebastian with the same wide eyes.
Merlin, Sebastian thought. I’m not beguiled by cats, am I?
Yubin seemed to still have similar characteristics to a black cat, which Sebastian assumed were leftover from the transformation. Or perhaps Yubin had them all along, which was why his Animagus form was black cat?
He was pulled from this spiral by Yubin’s content sigh, almost a purr.
“I love you too, Seb.”
