Work Text:

Impulse was falling.

It was an odd feeling, but he knew there was nothing he could do about it.

So, he just accepted it and thought about the most recent events. Or rather event.

Impulse was betrayed but he deserved it, didn’t he?

No.

He just did what he had to do to survive.

Just like everyone else.

So why did he feel so bad about it?

He remembered the feeling of pure disloyalty, the look on the red army's faces, the sadness and disbelief painted on Skizz’s face when Impulse stayed back to warn the desert people of the coming attack.

He loved the satisfaction of tricking those absolute idiots into thinking that they could really trust him.

So why didn’t it feel so good now?

Maybe it’s that this is all over now. Or maybe that these people were his friends.

But no mercy. Never take your guard down. Don’t trust anyone.

He learned that when Bdubs killed him over a clock.

Just a clock.

Not treasure, an alliance, not anything like that.

Just a stupid, utterly useless clock.

That just shows how savage these people are.

But next time because I know that this will happen again, I’m ready.

And everyone will feel my wrath.

~~~~~~~
Impulse was betrayed. Again.
But now, he knew that this was all part of their games.
That he shouldn’t get mad at people, that he shouldn’t betray people, that he shouldn’t do anything of that sort.
No. It’s just satisfying for them.
Plus, Martyn did what he had to do, right?
He had no choice, there was no alternative, none of that.
So why did he feel like there was something… missing?
That there was something just out of reach.
Victory.
But there’s never true victory.
At the end of the day, we all live, we all die, and then move on to the next game.
So why did he want to win so badly?
He was so close to victory, he could taste it, the greatness of being in first.
But, deep down, he didn’t want to betray his friends.
He knew that was what he had to do though.
That was what everyone had to do if they wanted to win.
So, he will win next time.
And he doesn't care what he has to do to do exactly that.
