Work Text:

Buffy is exhausted. When the mission was over, when she was finally able to take the time necessary to put the trials and general trauma of it behind her, all she wanted was to go home, kick her feet up, and reconnect with her life and the few people she has left who make it worth living. Of course, that scenario had a lot more appeal before she found herself stuck in yet another airport, flight once again delayed, and her patience wearing thinner than it had in a long time.

Her stomach grumbles for the third time in as many minutes and she groans pitifully, falling face first onto the bench as it hits her that she's broken a cardinal rule: a hungry slayer is a grumpy slayer. And, unfortunately, there's no way to remedy her error while stuck in an airport at three am.

Something cold and wet nudges her calf and she bites back a shriek as she reels upright and almost tumbles to the floor.

“Y'alright over there, B?” Faith asks, head cocked to the side in concern but eyes bright with amusement. It is an annoyingly good look for her. “Think security's got one of those defibrillator things if you need a jumpstart.”

She glares over at her sister slayer, though it loses most of its potency when she sees the diet Coke in her extended hand. “Where'd you get that?” she asks as she clutches it to her chest. “I thought everything was closed.”

“I've got my ways,” she says with a smirk. “Picked up some snacks too.” She pulls a plastic bag into view and drops it on the seat between them. “Nearly all the basic food groups: sweet, savory, and, most importantly, caffeinated.”

As Buffy takes her first long drink of liquid goodness, she can't help but groan in delight. “You’re my favorite person ever.”

Faith scoffs. “Glad your stomach thinks so highly of me, B.”

She swipes at her with the back of her hand. “Not just my stomach.”

She grins, all white teeth and dimples, and digs into a bag of Doritos. “Don't get all sappy on me now; still only halfway there.”

“I can be sappy if I want,” she says, sticking out her tongue.

Faith huffs out a laugh as she stretches her legs out into the aisle. “Well, Imma take a nap so keep your sappy eyes open, alright?”

“Deal,” she says, leaning in to press a kiss to Faith's cheek before pulling back. She isn't quite fast enough to resume her seat before Faith cracks an eye open and catches her but, well, she can live with that.

With a soda in one hand and a bag of chips in the other, Buffy releases a soft, contented sigh and trains her eyes on the nearby arrival / departures board. She isn't home, isn't surrounded by her things and the familiar sounds of her friends-turned-family's voices but being here isn't all bad…not when she has Faith.
