Akito woke up to a pillow being thrown at his face. Slowly opening his eyes, he was met with An’s shit-eating grin.
Akito, along with Toya and Kohane, were staying over at the Shiraishi’s for Christmas. Akito hadn’t wanted to attend the sleepover, because he knew An would annoy him to death for the whole of Christmas Eve and Christmas, but since Toya insisted that he go, he reluctantly agreed.
“Akito, wake up!! It’s Christmas!!” An exclaimed, making him wince from how loud she was.
He scowled at her, throwing the pillow back at her from where he lay in his sleeping bag. An, of course, caught the pillow with ease, shooting a smirk at him. “Stop acting like a kid, Shiraishi,” he muttered, rolling his eyes. “Why are you so excited, anyway…?”
“Because,” An replied, pausing for dramatic effect, eyes shining with excitement. “Presents!! Who doesn’t like presents??”
Akito opened his mouth, about to retort that he didn’t like presents (he was a liar) when he smelt the familiar smell of maple syrup and butter. Instantly, he sat up from his sleeping bag. “Is that…?” he asked, to no one in particular.
An grinned, grabbing his hand to pull him up. “You’ll have to find out for yourself, hehe…” She then dragged him out of her room and to the kitchen.
Kohane was sitting at the dining table, sipping from a mug of hot chocolate. She smiled when An and Akito entered. “Hello, An-chan, Shinonome-kun,” she greeted.
An grinned at her. “Good morning, Kohane!” she replied, her expression softening slightly.
Akito snorted at this. “Gay ass bitch,” he muttered, so that only An could hear him.
An nudged him, smirking. “You’re one to talk,” she countered, wagging her eyebrows and nodding in the direction of the kitchen. Confused, Akito followed her gaze.
Toya was in the kitchen, wearing a white apron and holding the handle of a frying pan in his hand. He seemed to be cooking something.
“Good morning, Toya!!” An called out, waving a hand at him.
Toya turned around, faintly smiling when he saw Akito and An. “Good morning, Shiraishi.” Then, his smile widened by an inch when his gaze fell on Akito. “Good morning, Akito.”
Akito smiled warmly at him. “‘Morning, Toya,” he returned. Then, wrestling his hand out of An’s grip, he walked over to his boyfriend, peering over his shoulder to look at the frying pan. Sure enough, he could see what looked like a half-cooked pancake in the pan.
The ginger-head turned to Toya with a look of surprise. “You’re…making pancakes?” he asked.
Toya nodded. “Mm… I wanted to make some pancakes for you,” he answered.
Akito’s eyes widened the slightest bit. Toya was making pancakes…for him?
His breath hitched at the thought as his heart swelled with warmth. Toya was making his favorite food…for him? He felt a smile creep onto his face.
Toya really was too sweet for him.
He really didn’t deserve someone like him.
Unfortunately, Shiraishi An just had to ruin the moment. “Gay ass bitch,” she taunted, sticking her tongue out at Akito.
Akito gave her a glare. “I’m not gay!” he yelled back, shooting her his middle finger, which she happily returned. “I’m bi, you idiot…”
Kohane sighed. “An-chan, Shinonome-kun…please stop fighting…” she muttered, shaking her head in disappointment, yet not at all surprised.
Instantly, An was by Kohane’s side. She wrapped her arms around her girlfriend. “Alright, anything for you, Kohane!” she answered, pecking the top of Kohane’s head.
Kohane flushed a rosy pink color, nodding shyly. She still wasn’t used to An’s overwhelming affection for her, even after dating her for six months. It was understandable, though. An loved showering Kohane with love and kisses and and hugs. Akito shook his head at them, specifically at An.
Meanwhile, Toya had finished cooking the pancake in the frying pan. He turned to Akito. “Akito,” he said, grabbing the said boy’s attention. “Could you pass me a plate for me to place the pancake on?”
“Sure,” Akito replied. He opened a cabinet and grabbed a plate, setting it on the kitchen’s counter. Toya slid the pancake onto the plate before he started to cook another one. Akito looked at the pancake on the plate. Interesting…it was a lime green color. He’d never seen a lime green pancake before. He shrugged it off.
Toya glanced over his shoulder at Akito. “You can sit by the dining table first, Akito,” he told him. “I’ll serve you the pancakes when I’m done.”
Akito shook his head. “Nah, it’s fine,” he said.
Toya smiled. “I insist.”
Akito sighed, a small smile on his face. Well, if Toya insisted that he do so…he’d happily go along with whatever he wanted. He nodded, pressing a gentle kiss to Toya’s cheek before sitting opposite An and Kohane.
An smirked at him again. “Homosexual,” she teased.
Akito retorted, “You’re one to talk.”
Kohane sighed as they continued to bicker, obviously too tired of their bullshit to stop them at that point.
Akito and An bickered for a while longer before the three of them discussed some possible songs that they could cover next, like CH4NGE, and GETCHA!. Occasionally, Toya would contribute some songs that he enjoyed from where he was still cooking the pancakes.
After ten more minutes, Toya was placing a plate of lime green pancakes in front of Akito, with maple syrup and butter on it. Akito gave him a smile as he muttered his thanks as Toya sat down to his left.
An furrowed her brows at the pancakes. “Eh… Why are the pancakes… green?” she asked. Kohane, too, looked a little confused as she finished the last of her hot chocolate.
Akito snorted. “Shut it, Shiraishi. It’ll definitely taste good.” He took Toya’s hand from under the table, giving it a light squeeze. Toya gave him a faint smile in return.
Here goes nothing… Akito let go of Toya’s hand so he could take the fork and knife Toya had set on the plate. He cut a small piece of the lime green pancake, and took a bite.
His eyes widened slightly.
The pancakes…
They tasted…
So.
Fucking.
Good.
Immediately, Akito began to stuff his face with the first pancake. An looked absolutely dumbfounded. Kohane wasn’t all that different. Toya looked pleased.
“Is it really that good?” An asked, sounding a little doubtful.
“Hell yeah,” Akito responded after swallowing the pancake in his mouth. In fact, it was the best pancake that he’d ever eaten in his life. “It’s so good.”
Toya chuckled at the sight of the ginger head. “I’m glad that you enjoy it,” he replied. “Tsukasa-senpai and Kamishiro-senpai taught me how to make the pancakes. I only wanted to learn how to make them so I could make them specifically for you.” As Toya said the last bit, he gazed into Akito’s green eyes with his grey eyes.
Akito flushed slightly. “Well, uhm, t-thanks man,” he managed, choosing to continue stuffing his face, ignoring An’s knowing grin.
“Hey, lemme try one!” An exclaimed. She snatched Akito’s fork from his grip, ignoring his protests as she poked a piece of the pancake that he’d cut off. She then stuffed the fork in her mouth and began to chew.
Her face turned the exact shade of the pancakes.
Toya smiled at her. “How is it, Shiraishi?” he asked.
An looked like she was struggling to say something. “Y U M,” she replied, a strained smile on her face as she handed the fork back to Akito.
Kohane’s look turned into one of concern. “An-chan, are you okay?” she questioned, putting a hand on An’s shoulder.
An turned to her, nodding stiffly. “I ‘ M A L R I G H T , K O H A N E,” she answered.
Akito was a little baffled at her reaction. Did she dislike the pancakes? Did it taste weird to her? Because it didn’t taste bad to him. It really was the best pancakes that he’d ever eaten in his entire life.
The four of them chatted a while more as Akito finished his pancakes. An’s speech was still a little weird, but none of them commented on it. Eventually, Akito ate the last bit of the pancake and went to the kitchen to wash his plate and utensils.
When he returned, An’s speech was finally back to normal. “Finally! Now, we can open presents!!” she cheered. She took Kohane’s hand and dragged her to the Christmas tree in the Shiraishi’s living room.
Toya was about to follow after them when Akito stopped him by putting a hand on his shoulder. “Wait,” he said.
Toya turned around, looking confused. “Akito? Is there something you need?” he questioned.
In response, Akito reached up slightly to press their lips together lightly. He pulled away two seconds later, a smile on his face. “Thanks for the pancakes, man,” he said, a light blush on his face. Before Toya could say anything, Akito had run off, a little embarrassed by what he just did.
Toya chuckled softly before joining Akito, An, and Kohane next to the Christmas tree, ready to open their presents.
Though he got a lot of nice gifts from his friends, his sister and his father, Akito had to admit that the pancakes were the best gift he’d gotten in a long while.
