The Promise

Summary:

Tony made a promise to Abby. Now, he has to convince his boyfriend, Loki, the Norse God of Mischief, Lies, and Chaos, to go along with it. Here's hoping nothing too terrible happens.

Notes:

This is for Day 12: Santa/Santa Hat/Elf from the Happy Holiday Challenge on lj.

I really don't know what happened here, but I hope you all enjoy it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Why are we doing this exactly?" Loki leveled a glare at the human whose home he sometimes shared. This indignity just could not be born.

Tony cringed. "I promised Abby."

"Why am I beholden to your foolish promises, mortal?"

"Because you love me?" Tony tilted his head and shot his lover his best puppy dog eyes.

"No. That can't be it," Loki disagreed.

Tony pouted. "I thought we had something special here. Are you saying I'm just another human in your eyes?"

"Well you are moderately more intelligent than some of them, though you can still be quite dumb at times."

Tony wrinkled his nose. "Thanks. I think."

"It is a compliment." Loki smirked.

Tony shook his head. "I should know better than to expect anything other than backhanded compliments from you."

"You should," the God of Mischief agreed. "Especially when you're forcing me to do something you know I don't want to do."

"What's the problem with the costume? I specifically chose the one that would be your color and avoided those in Iron Man's colors. Did you know that your colors and Iron Man's colors make up Christmas colors? If I didn't know better I'd think the two of you were fated to be together."

Loki shuddered. "That man has no fashion sense. There's no way I could ever seriously be with him."

"But he's literally a genius."

"So are a number of other mortals, including you."

"I'm not a genius. I'm a frat boy. Ask anyone at NCIS."

Loki rolled his eyes. "As if anyone at NCIS could see more than a few inches in front of their nose when it comes to you. You are way too good at undercover and they all simply take it at face value instead of following it through to the natural conclusion about what that means for your skills."

"Gibbs sees me."

"No. Gibbs sees who you used to be. He doesn't register any growth you've made. Largely because he's still missing a number of memories regardless of what he says."

"How do you know this?" Tony prodded.

"I am a God."

"You better not be messing with Gibbs' head again. You know how he feels about that."

"He deserves it for forgetting you," the Norse God of Lies mumbled.

"Loki," Tony warned.

Loki huffed. "Fine. I will leave the human alone."

"And the costume?"

"Yes, yes, I will wear the costume with you."

"Good." Tony smiled at his lover, gratefully.

"I still don't think I should have to. She's not my coworker."

Tony smirked and leaned up to kiss his Norse God. "I'll make it up to you," he whispered against Loki's lips.

"You better."

"A preview," Tony offered, grasping his lover's hand and pulling him along towards the bedroom.

After they finished, they made their plans for when and where to meet to get into the costumes before Abby's Christmas party. Loki still wasn't impressed with the costume choice, but they had reached an agreement. Tony hoped that Abby would appreciate it as he wasn't looking forward to the grumpy God of Lies that he'd end up with after the Christmas party.

"We look ridiculous."

"Pretty sure that's the point," Tony grumbled, contemplating payback on Abby.

"You were the one who insisted we do this."

"One doesn't back out when they give their word that they'll do something. Isn't that a thing on Asgard too?"

"It's enforced by our God powers," the God of Mischief admitted.

"That seems like a possible drawback, especially for the God of Lies."

"It can be annoying at times, but I'm very good at finding loopholes. If you would like me to take action against the perpetrator of this disturbing clothing situation, just let me know. I will be more than happy to do so."

"I will, but it's only one night. We can survive that."

"Unless they take pictures."

"Oh God. Pictures? Is there not something your magic can do to prevent that from happening?" Tony shot his lover a pleading glance. There were plenty of pictures to blackmail Tony with, without including ones that could reveal his lover as the Norse God of Mischief.

"There is, but is that really sporting?"

I never promised Abby pictures," Tony hurriedly explained.

"Do not worry, Anthony. I will take care of it."

"Thank you!"

"I will take it out on you later, don't worry."

"Hoo-boy!" Tony moaned. He knew exactly what that tone of voice meant and what to expect after the party.

Loki shook his head at his mortal lover. "Come, Anthony. I believe there is a Christmas party for us to attend."

"Right you are, my lovely green elf."

"I am not an elf." Loki huffed.

"Tonight you look like one or at least what Earth thinks one looks like."

"Ludicrous."

"You'll still be the envy of everyone in the room, my magician."

"So what are the parameters for tonight?" Loki wondered.

"The standard ones. Outside of that, have fun. Trick people. Whatever you wanna do."

"Oh, really?" Loki purred. "Excellent."

Tony shook his head and followed his lover into the MCRT Christmas party that Abby had planned. He didn't really understand why they had to dress this way, but Abby had promised that they'd find out at the party.

"Oh."

Tony caught the surprised expression on his lover's face and looked for the cause, immediately noting that everyone was dressed up. Gibbs and Fornell were both dressed as Santa. Tim and Delilah had come dressed as a snowman and snowwoman.  Abby herself had dressed as a bright eyed and bushy tailed child eagerly awaiting presents. Bishop rounded out the group with her costume of an actual present.

Tony didn't know what to think about that. He was even less impressed when Abby pulled out a script for them all to read. "When did we sign up to read a Christmas story?" Tony contemplated aloud.

"Please," Abby begged.

Tony exchanged glances with Loki and indicated it was his choice. The others surprisingly were more on board than Tony was, so they gave in and participated in the little re-enactment Abby had planned. It was kind of fun, but all Tony wanted now was to go home with his God of Mischief and enjoy the rest of their night as his lover had hinted at earlier.

He'd agreed to wear the outfit for Abby and had managed to talk Loki into joining him, for which he was so glad. He would have hated to be the only elf at this event. He would definitely be rethinking promising anything to Abby in the future. For now, he had a God of Chaos to appease.

Notes:

It's the time of year for holiday cheer and with that comes holiday advent stories from me. I do not have near as many stories finished as I wanted to have done by this time, so I can't guarantee anything. Also, pairings will be weird and I totally understand if they're not to your tastes. I hope people will enjoy them anyway.
