Thicker than blood

Work Text:

The house was for once empty, all there was left of a happy family were frames of smiles and love hanging on the walls. Yoongi took the first step realizing they couldn’t possibly move on if they had to stare at ghosts from the past lingering over the rooms, so he left, and took with him the only one that still had a shard of hope of ever returning warmth to their hearts, Jimin flew under his wings as they moved to a charming loft in the heart of the city, Yoongi was never the kind to care much for the nature, so the concrete jungle was a better habitat for him now.

Jungkook was next, all he dream of lately was being by himself, he needed time to think, to reevaluate his life and what could possibly be his future now that the most important people were not there anymore. He settled on a small cottage on the country side, much the opposite of his older brother, he enjoyed time among the greenery, sounds of singing birds and chirping crickets had a surprising calming effect over him.

Hoseok and Taehyung would never make it on their own, they needed the company of others, the feel of having a family around, so when a close friend of his late father offered her suburban house where her husband and two small children lived, they were more than happy to take it. Sure it wasn’t going to be the same, but they would finally be able to hear the sound of laughter and have people to share it with, for now it was more than enough.

Taehyung pedaled this little pink bike with purplish ribbons tied on each side of the handles, courtesy of his new baby sister who was just earlier convinced not to glue a Rainbow Dash sticker on the basket or it would look “too girly” for Oppa to go around. The fresh smell of apple and cinnamon pie filled his nostrils, Mrs. Jung was the wizard when it came to baked goodies, and his mouth salivated at the scent floating around just outside the house where he was a few feet away.

He saw the mail man shove some paper on the mailbox and drove to it, clumsily moving his long legs on the tiny pedals. There were some letters addressed to Mr. Jung, others to Mrs. Jung, flyers, magazines, boring stuff, and one with his and Hoseok’s names on it. Taehyung jumped off the bike laying it flat on the ground and running inside with excitement.

Hoseok was tying pigtails on the little girl beside him on the couch as she talked to her older sister in front of her about how her doll needed new dresses to go to a party. Taehyung walked in, seating on the other side, giving his brother the letter they’ve just received.

“Oppa will be right back ok.” Hoseok said to the cute princesses playing around and moved to the other room along with Taehyung. He could see the nervousness on the other’s face as he opened the envelope to read them the contents inside.

“Dear boys, it has been one year since our loss and I’m sure you are taking care of yourselves. It has been said time heals all wounds and it’s difficult to believe such tales when it happens to you, but I know how strong you all are and how you are capable of kicking away every stone that crosses your path...”

Jimin held a grocery bag in one hand as he reached the other to open the doors to his building, he was tired from walking countless blocks to the market and back, but as much as Yoongi would always insist he should use their car, he didn’t have the patience to stay almost one hour on traffic for a few streets distance.

“Jimin-shi, there’s a letter for you.” The door man said behind his desk, showing him the envelope.
“Oh, thank you.” He grabbed it and turned away, pushing the elevator’s button, the doors slid open and he went inside, hardening his grip on the bag as it started to get too heavy.

Jimin walked into his shared apartment, closing the door with his foot and placing the groceries on the counter top, finally he got a chance to look at the piece of paper on his right hand, Yoongi’s name was printed over it, but his name was poorly hand written on the side and as Mrs. Min Jimin.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Jimin rolled his eyes, thinking it must have been that crazy doorman work for sure, he always looked at him a little funny.

He paced around the living room, stepping on cigarette buds and bumping on empty soju bottles to find Yoongi lying on the expensive black leather couch, covering his eyes with his hands and snoring lightly. He poked the other man on his ribs, he just mumbled not moving a muscle, he poked harder, but it didn’t really seem to have an effect on him.

“Yoongi-shi…” Jimin then whispered on his ears while dragging his hand under his white cotton shirt, along his abdomen to his chest.

“Hum, I’m up… I’m up.” Yoongi muttered, eyes opening wide to find Jimin with now crossed arms and a poker face.

“You got a letter.” He said, standing from his knees and seating on the coffee table.

“I got a hard on, are you gonna take care of that?” Yoongi stretched his body, sounds of crackling bones filling the room.

“It’s important…” The corner of Jimin’s lip curved up in disapproval. Yoongi sighed, fixing himself on the couch signaling the other to read it.

“…Yesterday, on their anniversary, I’ve received a very important letter, unfortunately I cannot disclosure any content of it without your presence, for legal reasons. Therefore, I’m inviting you all back to your parent’s mansion, it is imperative to discuss the subject as soon as possible…”

Jungkook passed the screen door of his house to breathe the fresh air outside, he held a cup of coffee on his hand sipping at it from time to time, he never really like the taste of it, but the dark beverage was the only thing to fully wake him up in the morning. He sat on his porch bench thinking he forgot to write today’s to do list, as he did every night before sleeping, with each passing day it became more and more difficult to deal with his loneliness.

In his heart he craved for his brother Taehyung’s smile, Hoseok jokes and bright persona, even Yoongi grumpy self was missing from his life, and mostly he missed Jimin, his beautiful eyes, the high pitched voice whenever he called his name, the way his whole body moved when he laughed. Jungkook thought he would be over him by now, but being alone made both memories and longing grow stronger.

He looks up to see the tab on his mailbox up, not many people knew where he lived now, he hardly got any mail for the entire year, what could that be? He walked to it, finding a single letter inside, his name stylishly written over the envelope. He returned to his porch to read it.

“…I’ll be taking care of transportation and staff to prepare for your arrival. I know this might cause you uneasiness and pain, but I promise any result that will come from this will make your time worth it. Please consider it with all your heart. I’m leaving my contact number for all the arrangements.
Kind regards,
Mr. Chang. ”

Returning home, after all this time, he wasn’t sure he could do it.
