Chapter 1: Unexpected Encounters

Chapter Text

New York City, a bustling metropolis, was under the vigilant watch of its friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. The evening was crisp, and the city lights illuminated the streets as Spider-Man swung from building to building, keeping an eye on the city below as it passed.

Down at street level, chaos suddenly erupted as a masked robber dashed out of a convenience store, clutching a bag full of ill-gotten rewards. Spider-Man's senses tingled, and he swiftly swung down, landing with grace in front of the fleeing criminal. "Whoa there, buddy! You're not going anywhere except maybe jail," Spider-Man quipped, his trademark humour cutting through the tension. As the web-slinger expertly webbed up the bewildered robber, the convenience store owner stepped out, grateful for the intervention. Spider-Man turned towards him, striking a pose. "Another day saved by your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man! Just doing my civic duty and all that jazz. You can thank me later," he said, giving a theatrical wink and salute.

Just as the shop owner was trying to express his gratitude, a loud voice interrupted the scene. "Aww, this sucks! I'm fashionably late. Story of my life!" The voice belonged to none other than Deadpool, who strolled up to them, with an exaggerated sigh. His red and black costume, decorated with various weapons, made him stand out. Spider-Man turned to face the newcomer, eyeing Deadpool with a mix of curiosity and wariness. "Well, well, if it isn't the famous Merc with a Mouth. What brings you to my neck of the woods, Deadpool?"

Deadpool grinned, his mask unable to hide the mischief in his eyes. "Oh, you know, just your average night out on the town. Thought I'd drop by, say hi to the locals, maybe steal a chimichanga or two." Spider-Man raised an eyebrow beneath his mask. "Right. Because that's what normal people do."

Deadpool chuckled, unfazed by Spider-Man's scepticism. "Hey, Spidey! Look at you, all spandex and heroism! We're finally meeting, and I gotta say, I'm a big fan. I mean, who wouldn't be? You're like the poster child for superhero coolness and have an amazing butt." Spider-Man couldn't help but smirk. "Well, I do try my best. But seriously, Deadpool, what are you doing here?"

Deadpool leaned in, his tone conspiratorial. "I heard there was a party, and guess what? I wasn't invited! Can you believe it? So, I thought I'd crash the scene and spice things up a bit. You know, add a dash of Deadpool flavour, but caution… its spicy!!!." Spider-Man sighed, realizing he was in for an interesting night.

Spider-Man shot a web to the convenience store's roof, perching on the edge as he turned back to the shop owner. "Well, my friend, it looks like your store is safe and sound now. I've got to swing, duty calls and all that. Remember, if you need help, just shout 'Spider-Man' into the night, and I'll be there. No, seriously, it works!" The shop owner nodded appreciatively, still in awe of the superhero standing before him. "Thank you, Spider-Man! You're a lifesaver."

As Spider-Man prepared to swing away, the distant wail of sirens echoed through the city streets, indicating the imminent arrival of the police. However, what neither hero anticipated was Deadpool's sudden interest in joining the action. "Hold up, Spidey! Mind if I tag along? I've got a thing with sirens and flashing lights. Plus, who wouldn't want the Deadpool touch on crime-fighting?" Spider-Man raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised. "You want to come with me? Since when does Deadpool do the superhero team-up thing… or superhero-ing at all?" "Since today, apparently. I figure it'll be like a buddy cop movie, only with more spandex and fewer rules," Deadpool replied with a grin, brandishing his katanas as if ready for action.

Spider-Man hesitated for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of teaming up with someone as unpredictable as Deadpool.
However, the urgency of the situation compelled him to make a quick decision. "Fine, but stay out of trouble, Deadpool.
This is serious business," Spider-Man warned. Deadpool saluted dramatically. "Scout's honour, Spidey! Now, let's swing into action and show these criminals what a dynamic duo looks like!"

Perched on the edge of a high rooftop, Spider-Man couldn't shake the feeling of anticipation, waiting for the next burst of criminal activity that seemed inevitable in New York City.
Deadpool, on the other hand, appeared surprisingly content, legs swinging over the edge as he hummed a tuneless melody. Spider-Man glanced at Deadpool, his mask hiding the sceptical expression. "You know, it's kind of weird that nothing's happening. This is usually when some super-powered villain decides to make a grand entrance or a gang of thugs decides to stir up trouble." Deadpool shrugged nonchalantly. "Eh, crime's probably taking the night off. Even the bad guys need a break, right? Or maybe they heard we were on the case and decided to lay low. Can't blame them really."

Spider-Man rolled his eyes beneath the mask. "I highly doubt that, but okay, we'll go with your theory. You're not regretting tagging along now, are you?"
Deadpool leaned back, staring at the city skyline. "Nah, Spidey, this is nice. Sometimes it's good to just sit and appreciate the view. Not everything has to be about punching bad guys in the face, you know?" Spider-Man nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just...unexpected. I'm not used to downtime during patrol, usually one thing happens after the other and I hardly have any time to breath."
Deadpool grinned mischievously. "Well, Spidey, downtime with Deadpool is a whole different experience. I can entertain you with my amazing stories, share some deep life philosophy, or we can just enjoy the silence together." Spider-Man sighed. "Silence is good, Deadpool. Let's go with that."

As they sat in a companionable silence, Deadpool couldn't resist breaking it with his signature banter.
"You know, Spidey, I was thinking about your suit. It's pretty snug, isn't it? Hugs all the right places. Really accentuates the, uh, spider-ness. Do you work out, or is it all those acrobatics?" Spider-Man sighed again, choosing to ignore Deadpool's peculiar line of questioning. "I focus on staying fit for the job. It's part of the whole superhero gig. You should try it sometime."

Deadpool waggled his eyebrows, undeterred. "Oh, I stay fit in my own special way. Flexibility is key in the mercenary business, you know? Plus, it helps me appreciate the finer things in life, like sitting on rooftops and admiring the city lights." Spider-Man chuckled despite himself. "You're something else, Deadpool. I'll give you that."

As they continued to enjoy the quiet moment, Spider-Man couldn't deny the odd camaraderie forming between them.
