Work Text:

She was beautiful as she tugged him along behind her, pulling him toward the open-air stage that was to hold her next production. Neuvillette went willingly, eyes drawn as they so often were to the new mark on her neck, stark against pale skin and loudly proclaiming to any who would know what it meant that she was his, and his alone.

Joy and possession and pride pulsed from him through their bond and was met with shy reciprocation before they reached the base of the stage and the sky opened up on them.

Furina pulled her hand away and turned to him with crossed arms and a scowl offset by the good humor tinkling through their bond. “Nice try, but you’re not going to get away from this, monsieur, no matter how little you enjoy to dance. I need to practice, and you promised to help.”

“I’m not always the cause of the rain.” Neuvillette pointed out honestly, but he wondered if he might not have been the cause this time. Certainly he was currently feeling no sorrow, but his heart was so full with more positive emotions that this rain might be a reaction to him anyway.

“I would be glad to dance with you, my Lady.” He continued, and this he knew as fact.

“Hmph, as well you should be. It’s not everyone that gets such an opportunity, you know. You should be honored by the chance.” Furina replied, some of the fluster that she used to fall into so easily making an appearance. She was slowly growing out of it the more that Neuvillette showered her with his now unhidden affections, but it still made its appearance here and there- something Neuvillette was glad for. It was rather adorable.

Then again, everything about Furina was adorable to him.

“You’re right.” He agreed easily as he caught one of Furina’s hands and raised it to his lips to kiss the back of it. “And I am very honored.”

Before his adoring eyes Furina flustered even more, shoving a burst of embarrassment at him through their bond not unlike someone shoving someone else’s shoulder. She was getting better at manipulating their bond like that. Every time she tried such things it made his dragon bask to feel how open she was becoming with them.

“Enough distracting me, Neuvillette. It’s time to dance.”

Obliging to his Lady’s whims as always, Neuvillette drew his mate into his arms.

And beneath the backdrop of the night and the rain that caught the stage light and reflected it like falling stars as it fell, the two of them danced.

Notes:

So a very 'in medias res' opening for their relationship, but hopefully understandable enough. I love these two, and I like to think they'll be very happy in the future. And yes, as Neuvillette's mate, Furina does once again have a lifeline that matches his.
