Such a Life For a Boring Existence

Summary:

Miyazawa Kenji. He was around fourteen years old when he was recruited into the Port Mafia, just merely a month after the death of a friend of his. While on the Port Mafia, he was known inside the organization for killing others with unpractical objects that are mostly found within mother nature.

He wasn't that well known either, as he mostly didn't really show himself to the public a lot to not get himself on those wanted posters like one of his seniors. He did most of his work at night, and at day he kept his killings subtle.

Such a waste, really. Why would a boring farmer boy like him have such job like this?

Chapter Text

It was the middle of the night and the sky shined a beautiful shade of dark blue with stars that we're sparkling. A group of men that were all gathered on an abandoned building could be seen talking to one another about something. They were all scattered about as three of them was outside the building, guarding them all. The group wasn't that large. If anything, it was a small group that had less people than the Detective Agency.

Just as the group were almost done with their planning, a loud thud was heard three times. The ones who were inside looked out to see the guards all fallen down with blood dripping down from each if their foreheads. Were they shot? If so, why couldn't they hear the sound of a gun firing?

Just as the group was stunned in silence of the dead bodies in front of the abandoned building, something went through one of the broken windows and hit one of the members head, making them die in an instant. The rest started to freak out as all of them were hit on the head one by one. Although, one of them got hit in one of their eyes instead, making them yell in pain and forced to watch their others friends die. The man slowly hid behind a wall that wasn't visible from the outside slid down to sit, listening closely as all of their partners fall down.

They peaked out from behind the wall, sighing in relief as they saw that there were no more rocks that was being thrown at them. They went back to hiding behind the wall and looked beside them to see a blonde kid sitting on his knees.

"Peek-a-boo! I found you!" The kid exclaimed before impaling a stick into the man's neck before they could even shout. He then slowly stood up, his eyes still on the dying man.

Kenji watches as the blood slowly pours out if the guy below him. It was disgusting, really, he would rather to tie the guy up and throw him off a cliff like he always did in his home town. Though, there's always a first time for everything, so it'll be alright, Mori had told him how these men had done something terrible had deserved this.

The blonde kid pulls out the stick and breaks it apart with ease to throw it away somewhere. He gazes around the places and looks at all of the dead corpses that had a hole in their heads, it was caused by Kenji, who had small bits of rocks that was quite heavy and threw them with his Ability. Kenji didn't like using his ability like this, but like Mori said, it was reasonable for Kenji to kill them with his ability to atone their actions. And so, Kenji didn't argue.

Kenji raises a finger up to his chin. "I wonder what I should eat later on.." He thought out loud. Since Kenji could only use his ability from being starved, the Port Mafia had made the kid eat less and less frequently in order for him to do his missions. He would be only allowed to eat after every five or six missions, and could only eat three things before setting off to another mission. At first, it had bothered the poor kid, but as time went by like a breeze he started to grow used to it.

As the blonde was lost in thought, a man with ginger hair that laid on his shoulder came out of the shadows and began to walk towards Kenji- His footsteps filling up the entire building. Kenji, who hears the footsteps, snapped his head to face the ginger and bowed slightly. "Good afternoon, Chuuya-san" He greeted.

"Good afternoon to you too, Kenji.. You can stop bowing down to me now, You know?" He responded, he seemed really out of it. Maybe he had just finished a mission. "The boss wants me to tell you that you have a mission with Motojirou Kajii and Kyouka Izumi tomorrow. Since Akutagawa and Higuchi had failed to the other day, the Boss wants you to help catch the weretiger boy."

Kenji tilts his head to the side as he heard Chuuya say the name 'Kyouka Izumi'. He was confused, as Kouyou would tell Kenji to stay away from Kyoka since she thinks he'll make Kyouka feel 'false hope' and does not want that. The kid understood this, and kept his distance away from Kyouka. And so, to hear thay he'll going to do a mission with her was absolutely surprising. "But.. I thought Kouyou-san didn't allow me to interact with Kyoka-san at all?" He asked.

"Thats because you won't be standing beside her, or interact with her in general. You'll still keep your distance from her as you'll just be the one watching everything. If anything goes wrong, you fix it, or atleast try; If you fail, report to me immediately and I'll try to find a solution along with the others." The ginger replied, yawning from tiredness. Kenji's mouth formed into an O as he nodded, taking everything Chuuya had said in his mind.

Kenji clasped his hands together as he smiled, "Alright, then! Thank you for telling me this information, Chuuya-san!" He thanked, shining rather too brightly for someone who's standing in a room full of corpses.

Chuuya sighs and puts a hand on Kenji's head, ruffling the younger one's hair. "Yeah, yeah.. now go back to the apartment, you've finished all of your work for today." Chuuya said. It sounded more like an order than a suggestion, Kenji thinks.

Kenji hummed in response as he watched the older one let go of his head and disappear into the night, leaving him alone in the building that he just realized started to fill up with the smell of dried up blood. Kenji quickly pulls a rope out of his pockets and collected all of the corpses one by one, tying them all up together as he drags them to a nearby cliff and threw them all into the deep river below. The blood stains inside the building won't matter as it wont cause too big of a deal for Kenji. And so, the young boy dashed off to his apartment and changed his clothes into more comfortable ones, drifting off to sleep to mentally prepare himself for tomorrow's mission.

Notes:

Sorry if it seemed rushed, tried my best to make it short yet filled with some information of this version of Kenji. I hoped you enjoyed this!

Chapter 2: Such an Existence Where Everything Goes As Planned

Notes:

Didn't know how to add Kenji into the train scene so this'll have to do (have no idea for the title too)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Kenji watched. Kenji watched as Kyouka slashes Atsushi with Demon Snow, he watched as Kyouka revealed the bomb on her chest, he watched as Kyouka declared she didn't want to kill more people, he watched as Atsushi pull off the bomb on her as they both jump off the train. All while he hid on the train cart after theirs, listening to their every move and sound. He went into the train and looks out to the giant hole that was left behind by the two, the bomb exploding which didn't even cause any damage. He wished that maybe he could've at least tried to catch the Weretiger while he was distracted by Kyouka... The young boy sighed and pulls out a phone from his pockets, dialing a number and pressing it against his right ear.

"Chuuya-san, the mission has failed.. The weretiger had gotten Kyouka as well" Kenji announced, his hair and attire getting swayed by the wind as the train moved at a high speed, although it wasn't too high.

"Is that so? God this is the only time I hope you're lying, if not, Kouyou will be angered by this.. Well, just get back here as soon as possible. We'll figure out another way. Tell Kajii to come back as well, go it?" Chuuya spoke through the speaker, his voice sounding a bit robotic since Kenji didn't really have that much service.

He replied with a small "got it!" That was unreasonably cheerful. The man on the other end sighed as Kenji hanged up the phone. He began to joyfully skip along across different train carts, trying to find Kajii and he finally did so.

As Kenji entered the middle train cart, he was blocked by passengers who were all going off the train one by one as the Train had stopped. He made his way through, apologizing to those he accidentally shoved. He may be apart of the Port Mafia, but that didn't mean he wasn't kind.

The kid finally made it to where Kajii had been.

"Ka~Jii~San!! Chuuya-san told us to head back!" Kenji crouched down at the Brunette who laid out on the floor, he was sparkling. He must've fought with the 'Angel of Death', Kenji thought. The young blonde poked at the passed out Kajii, tilting his head to the side as he kept on poking the shit out of him.

"Ah.. You're passed out.. Oh well" Kenji shrugged, picking up the older one and carried him on his shoulder. He slowly stood up, getting off from the train that had stopped. Probably because of the 'Angel Of Death' as well.

When Kenji got off, he realizes he needed to get pass through crowds. He stops in his tracks for a moment to figure out a way to get through them, or else he'll arrive at the Port Mafia Building late. He puts a finger on his chin with his free hand and gets an idea. He coughs a bit, putting on a face that looked worried and distressed. He took a step back, and ran in the fastest pace he could without his ability.

"Excuse me! I'm in a hurry!" The blondie yelled out, people looking back to him and letting him through. Seeing a fourteen year old running with such a distressed and hurried appearance, and a man who he had carried over his shoulder which they can only assume was a guardian of his passed out, they made their way and watched him run.

Kenji continues to run, he runs as if his life depended on it, and that's exactly what he wanted everyone to think. A kid carrying their passed out guardian was news worthy, and he can only hope no one took a picture of him running with a passed out Kajii on his shoulder and actually make it to the news. Or else he'd be scolded by Chuuya again. At one point, a kind person stopped Kenji in his tracks and offered to bring him and Kajii to the place they were headed, in which Kenji politely declined and bowed, running once more. Kenji swore he could see the person look at him with sympathy at the corner of his eye, but that didn't matter.

After what felt like forever, Kenji stopped in front of the Port Mafia building, panting as he felt exhausted from running with a man passed out on his shoulder. He went inside the building and made his way to the Cafeteria, as that was where Chuuya usually was. He showed the guards at the door of the passed out Kajii, in which they roused a eyebrow on, but nevertheless lets him in anyways. Kenji steps inside the Cafeteria, illuminating it with a bright smile as he spots Chuuya and waving at him with his free arm.

Kenji drops Kajii, now dragging him on the floor as he lost the energy to carry him any longer. He stands beside his senior, giving a cat-like smile. Chuuya sighs, looking up at his apprentice with a raised eyebrow. He's been all too familiar with that smile over the past three months, so he knows the kid had done something wrong.

The blonde notices the look, and answers before Chuuya could even open his mouth. "I ate too much this morning, Its totally not like I couldn't do anything for the mission because I felt my ability was still weak though.." The smile turns into a nervous one. He didn't exactly help with the mission at all, in fact he was nothing but an observer during it.

Chuuya furrows his eyebrows, "Kenji.. You know you'll have to stop eating even longer because of eating too much, right?" His frown deepens, placing the wine that was once in his hand now on the table, crossing his arms and legs.

Kenjis heart drops. Of course, he knew there would be a punishment once he announced he ate too much and couldn't help the others at all. But even after hearing the same line a bunch of times before, it still makes him cringe. He felt guilty, guilty on how selfish he was for eating too much and made them fail the mission. Those words kept repeating in his mind- 'Its your fault, you're so selfish, they failed the mission because of you.' But even with that, he kept on a smile. Thats the only thing he could do without any problems whatsoever, pretending. That was also something that stuck with him when he left his hometown.

The boy chuckles, "I know! Its alright though, because of my Ability, it also gave me a high immune system! Nothing will happen to me!" Kenji dramatically puts one hand on his chest while the other was on his waist, standing proudly. Chuuya sighs in frustration once more, but doesnt say anything else other than telling him to put Kajii in his apartment. Luckily, Kajii's apartment was close to Kenjis, so there wont be any problems.

Kenji picks up Kajii once again, now having enough energy to carry him around. After giving his mentor a quick bow and a farewell, he skips his way out of the cafeteria and made his way to their apartments. The young kid was grateful the Boss was kind enough to give his workers —mainly to those who were either high ranked or had a strong ability— an apartment of their own. Of course, they needed to pay but they had enough money for all of that considering the amount they get paid for.

Kenji stops in his tracks in front of Kajii's apartment door, kicking the door open, careful enough to not break it off its hinges. He goes inside the brunette's bedroom, putting the man down on his bed in a not-so-careful fashion. Though it somehow didn't wake Kajii up at all. Kenji pats the man's head a bit as he muttered a small "bye-bye" as he cheerfully goes out of the apartment, shutting the door behind him as he goes back to his own apartment that was just a few doors away.

The kid opens his apartment door and gazed up to the clock he had hunged on the wall; He had some time left before he had to go to another mission again. Despite being in the Mafia, they were all still well organized with how they'll go on their missions. And so, Kenji just focused on watering his small garden on the balcony while he had his spare time.

After a few moments, he went back inside his apartment and puts down his watering can nearby. He caught a glimpse of himself from a window reflection and walked towards it, taking in on how different he had looked before three months before.

His hair grew out a bit, a part of it being tied into a braid and clipped to the side of his head. He wore a hat that Chuuya had given him the day he just joined the Port Mafia, since he was the one who recruited him in the first place. His freckles were slowly fading away too.. Maybe he should go out a bit more.. As he was lost in thought, he feels a buzz in his pockets. He pulls out his phone and sees a text from his Boss.

[Kenji-kun, you have a new mission. It's.. ]

Ah, right. His mission. The blondie sighs as he clicked on the notification, reading the rest of the texts that was filled with the information he needed of the target. Normally, members would be summoned to the Boss's office to get their missions, although that wasn't the case for Kenji. He never saw the Boss's office, even when he first joined. He wonders why, though he concluded that he was still young and there was probably inappropriate things in there, like rotten skeletons or something, maybe his Boss didn't want to horrify him. Who knows?

Kenji replied with a quick sticker of a cow with the text saying [thank you!] and puts the phone back into his pockets, dashing out of his apartment as he waved to the other Port Mafia members who either responded with a nod or a no response at all, and if he was lucky, they'd wave back. He walks out of the building and started to walk calmly as he was in public, walking beside the other Yokohama citizens as if he was normal. He smiled at the citizens as he kindly asked them some directions to a certain place, since he didn't exactly knew the roads of Yokohama.

As Kenji finally arrived at his destination, he quietly made his way to his target- Killing them quickly before anyone could notice and making a run for it, blending in within the crowds with barely a speck of blood on him. He walks by a cafe, taking a quick glance inside before continuing to walk into an alley way and opening his phone to tell the mission was done. He felt hungry, and the delicious smell of newly baked bread was taking control over his mind, though the kid shakes his head and waits for his Boss's response for his new mission.\

Kenji moves his gaze towards the streets, seeing people pass by without noticing him and minding their own business. He watches kids playing with their parents, kids around his age hanging out, cars and motorcycles passing through, their lives looked so interesting.. Who knows, maybe the parents were actually cheating on one another, maybe one of those kids is planning to off themself tonight, maybe someone is stuck inside one of those cars, kidnapped. There were so many possibilities and Kenji couldn't help but think of some, people of Yokohama all had such interesting lives..

And there was Kenji, he's just some simple farmer boy who helps his family. He wasn't an interesting individual at all, his entire existence had no use, the only thing interesting about him is being in the Port Mafia. Even so, it was boring, his entire life is. He wonders how or why his mentor requited him in the Port Mafia in the first place, yeah his ability is powerful but he didn't fully understand it. He doesn't understand why at all.

Kenji's train of thought was interrupted by a buzz on his phone, he raises his phone and looks at the message his Boss had sent him. Right, his mission, he should stop zoning out. Kenji groans as he read the continents of the message.

Seems like this'll be another long, boring work day as usual.

Chapter Text

The next day was a bit uneventful for Kenji, though for his senior, he had heard he had gotten severely injured while fighting the weretiger. He felt bad for him, knowing it was his own fault for not helping, and so he decided to visit for a quick moment while on his break. He never talked to him much, but it never hurts to finally do so. He remembered that Akutagawa had liked tea (how'd he know? He would always see Akutagawa drinking tea in the cafeteria.), and he figured that he'd bring some for him, as an apology and hopefully as a beginning of a new friendship.

Kenji walks inside a building, walking through a empty hallway and going inside a room akin to a hospital room, everything being covered in white with some color of blue all around. He sees a blonde woman who was sitting on a chair, sleeping beside Akutagawa who was covered in bandages. It was Higuchi. She was keeping Akutagawa company, how caring! Kenji wanted to praise her, though fought the urge and walked to the other side of the bed as to not disturb the sleeping Higuchi.

He looks down at his senior who had his eyes closed, though it was clear to Kenji that he was only pretending to be asleep to listen to what Kenji was doing. Liars know liars, afterall. He decides to not say anything about it, "Hello, Akutagawa-san! I heard what had happened to you, I'm sorry of that happening, since I think I would've prevented all of this if I had helped better." The kid apologized, watching the small twitches Akutagawa would make. He was right, he's awake. "I brought some tea for you... And I just realized I should've brought water and cups with me- Whoops!" He chuckles lightly, placing the plastic in his hands on an empty table that had different tools that was could be find in a hospital.

"I don't need your pity." Akutagawa spoke, opening his eyes as he watched Kenji put the plastic bag down. "You may be Chuuya-san's apprentice, but don't let that get into your head and make you believe you can just speak to me so casually." The senior spoke with a hard glare, Kenji swore he saw Akutagawa wanting to clench the sheets under him but stopped due to a sudden pain that shocked throughout his body.

Right, he had to speak formally. Most of his seniors would prefer to talk to not so casually unlike his mentor and Kajii. He struggled with this a lot since he was too used to treating everyone equally. "Apologies, Akutagawa-san. I've realized I had forgotten my place. I- uhm.. Sincerely hope you'll get better quickly."  Kenji holds his head down, paying some respect, struggling a little since he doesn't know a lot of big words.

"Get lost."

Kenji hums, understanding that Akutagawa wanted him gone immediately. He bows down, waving a quick goodbye before running outside the hospital room. Maybe one he could bloom a friendship with this senior of his, but at least he had a proper conversation with him that wasn't just Akutagawa shooing him off before Kenji could even say 'Hi!'. For now though, baby steps.

Akutagawa watched as Kenji walked out of the hospital room, staring up at the ceiling while zoning out. He wanted to get out of bed, he felt so vulnerable it made him feel pathetic, and he hated that with his whole heart. What use does he have if he's just injured and weak? He wanted to get up and work, but his body refuses to. He can move his hands, but it still made him hiss whenever he does so. He wanted to get up and work, but his body refuses to. He can move his hands, but it still made him hiss whenever he does so. Maybe some tea would help him..

He gazes to the plastic bag beside him, it looked like it had one or two boxes of tea inside of it. He wondered what kind of tea Kenji had bought, was it the one Akutagawa would always drink or was it just normal tea? He tried to sit up to check, a shock of pain spreading out his body before he could even lift himself slightly. He lays back down, grumbling in annoyance. He glanced to the sleeping blonde beside him, sighing.

"Higuchi." Akutagawa called out, nudging Higuchi's head as she was laying beside his arm. The blonde sat up immediately, rubbing her eyes a bit and fixing her hair to face her senior.

"Ah- yes, Akutagawa-senpai. What is it?" She asked, checking Akutagawa up and down to see if there was anything wrong, although he looked completely fine at first glance, it doesn't hurt for her to check.

Akutagawa suddenly remembers how he had apologized to Higuchi, still embarrassed about it. He pushed the thought away and bites his lip. "Make tea for me." Akutagawa gestures to the plastic bag beside him, the slight difference in his tone could easily be mistaken as a request of you knew him long enough.

Higuchi smiles with a slight pink tint on the corner of her cheek, noticing the slight difference in tone and stands up. "Of course." She walks over to the plastic bag and walks out. She opens the plastic bag when she was out of the room, talking to herself and wondering who exactly gave Akutagawa tea in the first place, she doesn't remember bringing any.

The Akutagawa in question was muttering to himself on his bed, glaring at nothing, the spark of pain that would happen whenever he ever just move his ankle making his mood worse by the second. The stupid weretiger was stronger than he thought, and it pissed him off, he felt embarrassed about losing, and obviously when he was held hostage not too long ago made it much, much worse. Higuchi wouldn't take too long to make the tea, though he decides to get a quick shut in to calm himself down a bit.

Meanwhile, a very weak Kenji could be seen walking in the streets of Yokohama. Whenever he walked forward his direction would slightly change to the left or even the right. He held his stomach tightly, grumbling a bit. It wasn't long before a peculiar guy with ginger hair who was with a girl who Kenji assumed was his sister, asked him if he was alright as in his words the kid seemed 'Sickly'. Kenji would deny, but the kind guy asked if he had eaten at all yet.

In which Kenji realizes, he hadn't eaten for more than he supposed to. How many missions had he done? Ten or maybe fifteen? That'll mean he hadn't eaten for three days-

The ginger's sister then invited the blonde to lunch, in which the brother immediately agreed to. The kid hesitated at first, but after a hot minute he agrees and so now he was sitting in a little restaurant with two people he had learned were named Tanizaki Junichiro and Tanizaki Naomi, and like he had guessed they were brother and sister. Their dynamic is something that confuses him, though he doesn't any questions as he thinks its none of his business. The two siblings were very kind and asked him why a kid like him was alone outside, in which the kid in question made up a lie; Being that he was coming home after playing with some friends. The two luckily believed him. The more they talked, the more Kenji had anticipated a particular question they would ask him;

"Why haven't you eaten?"

But it never came.

Did they not want to invade his privacy at all? How respectful, each city folks really are different than the other huh. He smiled while they continued the conversation, it being awhile he had eaten a full fledge meal and not some scrambled eggs with vegetables. He would soon immediately departure from the two when they all finished the meal, sincerely thanking them and waving goodbye as he walked to his apartment.

A few days later, Kenji was now staring down at the paper on the table, grabbing a yellow crayon to write the word 'My' and switching to a black one to write 'most prized possesion'. It may be a bit messy, and he might've misspelled a word, but he's sure it's not important. His mentor had asked him to make a list or draw the things he had held close, be it a thing or someone. His mentor said the reason was that he wanted Kenji to experience what kindergarten is like since the blonde kid never had any education, and Kenji would've believed that, if he was naive and didn't notice how his mentor was too focused on his own body language rather than his words. He didn't expect Chuuya to be a good liar or anything, it's not as easy as it seems.

He knows his mentor is just making him do this to get more information about him, maybe even planning to use those he held dearly against him, so lying and putting things he didn't exactly care about would be reasonable enough for him to do. He'll draw some of the stuff he actually cared about just to make it more believable, like the hat he was given by his mentor on the first day he joined and also his pet cow that he had back in his village, Hanako. He misses his pet and wonders how she was doing, as he was not allowed to bring her with him and neither was he allowed to visit. It makes him realize he doesn't exactly remember his family's reaction to him leaving, and nor does he remember his family even giving him the permission to leave them forever. Did his family really let him go so easily? God, he's even starting to forget their faces.

"Ehhh, where'd my green crayon go?" Kenji pouts, checking his little crayon package before looking below his table and floors. He finally found it under his chair, reaching to grab it and places it on the table before he notices a piece of paper in his pockets. After putting the crayon away, he pulls out the piece of paper to see a worn out picture drawing used with crayons, a bunch of it seemingly being burnt away. The most he could make out was a drawing of him smiling, and someone else right beside him who he can only see the arm of. He doesn't recall making it. Neither does he remember putting it in his pockets. His mind is completely hazy, whenever he tried to remember something before the Port Mafia he ends up thinking of a blank empty space. He doesn't know why, but maybe it's a good thing, right?

The kid continues with his drawings, grabbing his green crayon and making a three-leaf clover with the burnt out crayon drawing set aside. He drew things that were around his apartment which were things he doesn't exactly held precious, so he wouldn't care if something actually happened to them. It'd make his apartment feel more empty to him, yes, but at least he can (hopefully) buy some replacements for them. After he finished drawing he held the paper up to look at it more properly, careful not to make his hands that were stained with various colors of crayons imprint on the corners of the paper. He felt proud of himself. Carefully, he puts his crayons inside its package and grabs the paper of his 'Most prized possessions', looking back at the burnt crayon drawing and shoving it inside his pockets once more. He goes out of his apartment, moving from one building to another, strutting his way to the cafeteria like always. The guards became too used to his visits so they just let him in.

Kenji finds his mentor drinking a small glass of wine, the kid had noticed his mentor had usually drink it on a specific day each month, the 1st and the 27th. He never knew or even bothered to figure out why. He snaps out of his quick thoughts and pokes his mentor whom jumped a bit from the suddenness, careful enough to not spill his glass of wine, setting it down while coughing a bit.

Chuuya wipes his mouth, "Jeez kid, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" He scolded, covering his mouth a little bit. His coat being draped over the chair he had sat on. "The hell is it?" He properly turns his body to face his apprentice, his hand still on the wine glass.

"I'm done with the uhm... thingy you told me to do!" Kenji showed the paper to his mentor like a toddler showing their parent a drawing they did, a wide grin adorning his big doe eyes. He had forgotten to wash his hands beforehand, thus now some of the drawings were smudged, but it had seemed like he hadn't noticed at all as he was too busy looking at his mentor for his thoughts.

"Oh, right, uhm.." The red head grabs the piece of paper and looks at the various different drawings such as the hat he gave to Kenji, the pet cow, a three-leaf clover, a marigold, and a few other things. "Okay. Thanks, Kenji." He sets the paper on the table to look at it a bit more. As he feels Kenji still staring at him, he mentally rolls his eyes in frustration before commenting on the drawings, "..They look nice. Good work, kid."

Kenji smiled brightly, clasping his hands together, "Thank you, sir!" He bowed as an unnatural bright and flowery aura shone all around him. He remembers the random crayon drawing he had found and pulls it out of his pockets, showing it to his mentor. "Oh, by the way, I found this in my pocket earlier. I don't know what to do with it though.."

Chuuya reluctantly takes the burnt crayon drawing from Kenji's hands, a finger tracing its burnt edges. He seemed to know why it's damaged like that, but is too hesitant to say anything, Kenji having noticed his mentor biting his bottom lip slightly with slight furrowed eyebrows. "I'll.. Hold on to this. In case you need it."

"Hmm..? Alright then, sir?"

Kenji was a little puzzled, but nevertheless he bid his goodbye to his mentor and dashed out of the cafeteria, a bit happy on how he had gotten a compliment from his mentor. He saw a familiar red scarf that he ran passed who was heading towards the opposite direction of him, looking back to see a tall man with black silky hair. He didn't know who it was, though he seemed like an important figure in the Port Mafia. He kept on running and not thinking much about it.

He goes to hallway to hallway, waving at the other Port Mafia as usual. He was heading out to the exit, until he reached a slightly opened door that lead to down below the buildings; a place where those who were confined had been kept. He used to stay far away from the place when his mentor told him of what kind of people that laid down there, but sometimes curiosity gets the best of him, especially when the guards aren't there.

Walking down the stairs, he tries his best to not make himself obvious. He moves his way in front of various of empty rooms before finally reaching one specific one. One with multiple bars standing beside each other that had dents in them that were in various depths, a lone kid with unusual hair laying on a dirty bed with an old doll of some sort in their hands.

"Yumeno-kun?"

Kenji called out, knocking on the metal bars a little to hopefully get the kid's attention more. The kid eventually turns their head to face Kenji, their miss-matched pupils processing a bit before realizing who had came to visit them, their bored expression quickly turning to an ecstatic one. The kid jumps off their bed and to the metal bars and holding two with his hands, grinning widely with their old doll laying beside their legs.

"Miya-kun!! You visited me again, huh? It's been awhile!!"
