Summary:

“Do you believe in soulmates?”

At that question, Wallace looked up, his eyes meeting directly Scott’s. “Yeah. It’s hard not to.”

-

Ramona and Scott are soulmates in every universe. And Scott is Wallace’s in every universe.

Work Text:

“I found out the name of the girl of my dreams.”

“Yeah? What’s her name?”

“Ramona Flowers. Isn’t that such a pretty name?”

For some reason Wallace’s face seemed to sink. He still wore a smile and didn’t look shocked at all. Just a sad accepting smile. Despite Scott being sure he’d never seen that expression on Wallace, it felt oddly familiar “I suppose it suits her if she’s as pretty as you say.”

The knight was simply practicing against one of the training dummies but she still looked mesmerizing. Her hair wasn’t cut long and yet she still tied the little left in a small ponytail against her neck. Scott was too far away to make out much, however, the dead set determination stood out clear on her face.

His royal mantle brushing along the floor, Scott turned away from the stone laid window and toward his loyal guard. “Wallace, do you know the new recruits in the knights ranks?”

Without even a glance out the window, Wallace promptly responded back, “Do you mean Dame Ramona, sire?”

“Her name is Ramona? It suits her more than I could imagine.” Scott sent his own simpering gaze out the window, out toward the training field.

With all his attention toward the newly knighted Dame, Scott was left completely unaware of the sinking smile Wallace was sending his direction.

Making sure to keep his gun steady, Scott didn’t take his eyes off the girl as Julie shouted.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT OUR CAMP?”

The girl had both her arms up in the air, her own weapon already dropped on the ground. “I’m really just passing by, okay!?” She lowered her head a bit. “And keep your voice down, will you? Don’t get stupid just because you're anxious.”

“Oh, please. We’ve cleared out the area, plus we’re heavily fortified. There’s not a zombie for miles.” Julie made a show of aiming her gun at the girl. “Now, answer our questions. Who are you?”

“Ramona Flowers,” she gritted out.

Out of the corner of his eye, Scott saw Wallace lower his weapon.

Ramona Flowers continued, “And to answer your first question, I’m just looking to stay alive. Just like everybody else.”

Oddly, Wallace spoke out to defend this stranger. Clear but soft, he told the group, “I think…we can trust her.” It was odd for Wallace to be the one to advocate for a newcomer. Oftentimes it was him who was starkly against letting them into their encampment. So, his interjection somehow felt more believable.

Scott turned back toward Ramona Flowers. Her hair looked cropped with a pocket knife rather than scissors. She still looked beautiful though. Scott had no complaints about letting her into the encampment.

Scott was flung to the side, the villain of the week clearly about to take the opportunity to smash him into pieces. He braced for impact only for a flash across his vision to whisk the villain out of view. After it was a considerable distance away, the light floated into the air. Hovering above the battered body of Scott’s opponent was a girl with floating multicolored hair. Rings of light radiated from the bottoms of her boots, supposedly keeping her airborne.

The communication piece wedged into his ear, fizzed to life. “Scott? Scott, are you still there?”

Stunned out of his stupor, Scott shakily stood up in the rubble. “Yeah. Sorry, I’m still here.”

Wallace sighed on the other end. “God, you scared me. You scared the whole team. What happened?”

Scott threw a large chunk of building out of the way. “I have no idea. There was a flash of light and suddenly the villain was thrown across three blocks.” Finally on solid ground again, Scott readied himself to get back into battle. “Is there a new hero or something around now?”

There was a pause from Wallace. A bit odd given how prompt he usually was. “Uh, yeah… Do you have a description?”

“She’s got really colorful hair?”

“Yeah.” Wallace sounded strained. “That might be Ramona Flowers. Apparently she just transferred to our sector.”

“I swear to God, Scott. If you don’t take your car in by the end of the week, I’m going to stop driving you.” Wallace sat down in the driver’s seat and immediately the seat belt materialized across his chest and the holo-console lit up.

As soon as Scott got down in the passenger seat, Wallace shifted the car’s mode and they lifted into the air.

“I’m going to! I’ve just been so busy lately.” He knew that probably wouldn’t be taken as an excuse and not wanting to look at Wallace’s deadpan eye to eye, Scott idly watched the buildings pass by. An ad for a concert the next planet over flashed across the side of a passing truck.

“You’re kidding me. The only things you’ve been doing have been work and band practice. That doesn’t ever take up the whole 24 hours.” Wallace floated to a stop when the light flashed yellow and then red.

Just as Scott was going to respond back with something snappy and desperate, a hover bike suddenly stopped right to the side of Wallace’s car. Braced over the handles was someone wearing a brightly colored helmet that heavily contrasted her grungy clothing. Even with the helmet on, Scott could somewhat make out a face underneath the screen across the front. Long lashes and a cool expression had Scott already halfway to love.

“Scott, are you paying attention to me?”

“Oh sorry. It’s just,” Scott didn’t turn away from the window, “there’s someone really pretty riding a hover bike right now.”

Wallace didn’t sound as annoyed as Scott expected him to be. In fact, his words seemed to be surprisingly weighty. “Where? What does she look like?”

“She’s right out there. Oh, dang she’s turning away.” As she rode away, Scott read out the license plate on the back. “FL0WERS. Huh. I wonder how she got a custom plate like that.”

In an almost remorseful tone, Wallace replied, “Probably the DMV or something.” When Scott looked back over at him, he was wearing an odd sinking smile.

Scott was antsy, kicking his boots against the doormat as he pulled on his winter coat. “I don’t know what it is, Wallace. I just saw her and it all just clicked into place. It was like I was meant to meet her!”

From his easy chair, Wallace merely hummed. A click sounded through the apartment and the TV channel changed.

“Do you believe in soulmates?”

At that question, Wallace looked up, his eyes meeting directly Scott’s. “Yeah. It’s hard not to.”

Scott gasped. “Wait! Have you already met yours then?”

The laugh Wallace let out was short and clipped. “Yeah. I think I have, Scott.”
