It was a short moment; a blink and you’ll miss it kind of thing.
Big Chill holds his hand out towards Fourteen - never touching and barely grasping what he is going to lose - and gently guides the youngest to the night sky.
There was hesitation in those eyes - big and wide and so unsure about the world - but there was also a level of trust that he had never witnessed before. Like someone actually having unwavering trust in what Big Chill is doing.
It’s a scary feeling.
He only felt it once before when Ben first transformed.
Fourteen hovers a little longer before catching after their siblings.
Big Chill watched as long as he could before suddenly he was gone from the world. Trusting in himself that things will work out.
As the years continued on, Big Chill always kept an eye on the night sky. Maybe they’ll come back one day but was nothing more than a dream. It was very likely that he’ll never see them again.
(It’s what the records state; Ben had spent a little time doing research after a while).
A few told Ben that Big Chill appeared depressed after that day, and Big Chill could almost agree with them. Though he won’t be able to for a while yet.
However, it’s hard to focus when the world needs saving and people need protecting and life keeps moving forward without knowing when the next stop is coming.
…
When he came face to face with Chill for the first time, Big Chill knew that he was his son because the kid still trusted him with his whole being.
Even allowing Big Chill to help with the crisis that has been created with the Celestialsapiens and Starla.
Things didn’t move as fast or as slow as they used to. Especially when Chill properly moved into with Ben and his family, not really having anywhere else to go. It took time but in the end, Chill became just as much of a staple around the house as the First Ten Plus.
…
Chill did not want to be involved with this but his siblings basically forced him into it.
They were hanging out at some empty Plumber’s Base for a family gathering. Each one is a Tennyson; doesn’t matter if they are human, Necrofriggian, Lenopan, or Anodite. However, the family has expanded much more since Ben ends up visiting his kids’ adoptive families as well.
Chill’s friends and their families are here as well, somewhere. He hasn’t much time to hang out with Jewel and Fix before Glacier drags him into a snowball fight with their siblings.
Glacier had pushed Chill behind a snowbank and told him to make some snowballs before running off when another aim of snow came falling at him.
When Chill peeks over the bank, he spots Solstice with a snowball in each hand and lazily tossing one up in the air like a taunt. Chill slowly hid back behind the bank and did what Glacier had asked.
“Everything okay?”
Chill jumps and is about to smash a snowball into Big Chill’s face but the older Necrofriggian easily – and gently – grabs Chill’s arm. His Dad doesn’t look upset more amused than anything.
“I’m guessing that’s a no then?”
“Sorry.” Chill ducks his head down, pretending to be interested in the snowball instead. “Wasn’t expecting anyone to sneak up on me, you know?”
During the match, his siblings could come running over and shout something to get his attention, or let the field know about what’s going to happen. It’s meant to not surprise people too much; Chill, Cold Snap, Quilo, Magpie, and Cryo are some of them.
The few times Chill spotted Big Chill, his Dad appeared to know what was going on but it’s hard to say now.
“Sorry about that, I just wanted to you if you wanted some hot chocolate?”
Chill looks out on the field to see that his siblings – along with a few others who had since joined in – are still very much in the fight and probably won’t notice that Chill is missing.
Save for maybe Juniper and Firecracker since they come to restock from him the most. It wouldn’t be fair to leave them high and dry like that.
“Can you help me make a few more?” Chill asks, unsure what the answer is going to be.
His Dad does agree and together they made a few stacks before sneaking off the field to watch from the sideline.
Together, they found a place off to the side to continue watching the match. Big Chill hands a cup to Chill before sitting down next to him; unfurling his wings to rest one around Chill.
The feeling of safety washed over Chill and he never wanting to leave it again; finally finding his way back.
