Work Text:

Feeling particularly cozy in a very fluffy pair of fleece pajama pants and a new hoodie that was thick and soft, Bucky walked into the communal area of the Compound, toes nice and toasty in fuzzy socks and cushioned slippers. He had a hankering for some peppermint hot chocolate, but was momentarily deterred from his quest by the absurdly expansive setup that was taking over most of the enormous kitchen table. “Oh, wow. That’s… that’s a gingerbread house.”

Tony, who was fussing with the placement of the individual gingerbread structures that managed to mirror the Avengers Compound almost exactly, didn’t look up. “Your powers of observation, Sergeant Tastee Freeze, are indeed impressive.”

Bucky came closer, taking in all the intricately iced details. “It’s really nice. Big. Fancy.”

“Again, that keen eye of yours. Thrill me again.”

“Where did you get it?”

Tony glared at him with indignation. “Excuse me, I didn’t get it anywhere! I made it! With my own two Stark-powered hands!”

Quite capable of spotting bullshit at such a short distance, Bucky also noticed something tucked under the edge of the gingerbread Compound, and he reached for the little slip of brightly printed cardstock. “Right… can I just—”

“Hey, stop, what are you— stop fondling my gingerbread house, it’s fragile!” Tony scrabbled at him, trying to snatch the tag back.

“Uh huh. Now, gingerbread houses made from scratch don’t typically come with a price tag, now do they?” Bucky raised an eyebrow as he waved the tag tantalizingly at Tony, smirking.

Slightly (but only slightly) sheepish, Tony said, “I was gonna auction it for charity?”

Bucky grinned, handing over the price tag. “Nice try, Tony.”

With a nearly useless shove at the supersoldier’s bulk, Tony snorted at him. “Go away, I don’t like you anymore.”

“Uh huh. Sure you don’t.” Bucky resumed his mission and went to fill up the tea kettle that was shaped like Hulk’s head. “You want some hot chocolate?”

Tony was back to fussing with the gingerbread Compound, very intent on his work. “If you put coffee in it, sure.”

“Is that not just a mocha?”

“Aw, lookit you, learning all the fancy coffee lingo.”

Rolling his eyes, Bucky set the water on the stove to heat up and turned on the coffee machine. “It’s a prerequisite to living with you, Stark. Coffee and engineering. There was a pamphlet.”
