Two years ago, my grandfather died of lung cancer. This is the vent fic I wrote during and after that, giving my trauma to fictional people for processing reasons.
Liz doesn’t even realize she’s frozen in the hallway until Dick comes up to her and asks if she wants a hug. She nods, tears prickling at the edges of her vision, and Dick obliges. He gives the best hugs, warm and solid and soft. She intends to let go whenever he does, to make this last as long as possible. But Dick doesn’t let go. She starts to feel a bit awkward but the comfort still outweighs that for a while longer. When she finally pulls away, she’s expecting the dreaded question: are you okay?
But Dick doesn’t ask it. All he says is, “Alfred says dinner will be ready in half an hour."
