Chapter Text

"Mon amour, I didn't overlook an important date, did I?" Jean-Luc inquired with a hint of nervousness.

"I told you no, dear. This is just an ordinary day in our lives," replied Bluey simply, taking a final bite of her dessert.

"I still think there's something suspicious here," he whispered, looking at his wife mischievously.

Jean-Luc's hushed voice sent shivers down Bluey's spine. The heeler didn't want to be too obvious, but it was clear she was failing. She couldn't hide the secret much longer.

Bluey's playful expression broke.

"You're right, there is something suspicious here," she said with a suddenly soft and serious voice.

Now it was Jean-Luc's turn to feel weak against his wife's voice; they were about to catch him off guard.

His tail moved discreetly with anticipation.

"What are you talking about, ma chèrie?" he asked seriously, trying to hide his unease.

Jean-Luc's mind raced as he saw Bluey pull out a small gift box. Everything inside him moved with a strange but pleasant mix of terror and joy.

His mind couldn't focus on anything else. This was the moment.

"Open it," she indicated, offering him the gift.

The gift that would change their lives forever.

Jean-Luc obeyed, taking the box very carefully, as if it would vanish with any wrong move. He took a couple of seconds before removing the lid, his heart beating and bouncing in his chest at a thousand miles per hour, a lump rising in his throat.

A pregnancy test was what hid inside.

A positive pregnancy test.

"Bluey..." Jean-Luc sighed with difficulty, all the air had escaped from his lungs.

And he was crying with pure joy.

"You're going to be a father, Jean-Luc."
