Work Text:
They’ve been married for the past two years and have talked about having kids when they were dating. They knew they wanted one kid first before deciding if they wanted another kid. Phoenix didn’t understand why she was freaking out when she was waiting for the results of the three different pregnancy tests that were lying on her and Bob’s bathroom sink. She also got promoted to lieutenant commander which allowed her to be with Bob more as she was flying less. This is also the reason why she has been puking these past few days which raised some concern on Bob’s radar.
“Come on, you were involved in a suicide mission,” Phoenix hyped herself up as the timer on her phone went off. “You can handle three pregnancy test results.”
With her hand shaking, she flipped over the tests to see the test results. To see the three positive test results. With tears coming out of her eyes as she sat down on the bathroom floor, she let out a joyful cry as she looked at them. With one of the tests indicating that she was weeks pregnant, she did the math indicating when she would be due.
“Phe!” Bob called out after coming from his morning run. “Where are you?”
“In here! In our bathroom,” Phoenix replied, still sitting on the floor with the tests in her hand.
Taking off his shoes and tossing his keys in the bowl, he wiped the sweat off his face and headed to the bathroom. Reaching the bathroom, he saw his wife sitting on their bathroom floor with tears in her eyes.
“Hey, what happened?” He sat down on the floor with her.
Without replying to him, she handed the tests and he looked at them with wide eyes. Flipping over the tests, he immediately saw the positive results which prompted tears in his eyes. Cupping her face, he kissed her with the same passion as he did on their wedding day.
“We’re having a baby,” he said as tears fell.
“We’re having a baby,” Phoenix repeated. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Bob replied before kissing her again.

The week after finding out, Bob and Phoenix made their way to the OBGYN's office for a checkup on the baby. The two sat in the examination room waiting for an ultrasound tech to come in. Phoenix already had her blood drawn before entering the room so they had to wait for the results.
With a knock on the door, the ultrasound tech walked into the room with the machine and told Natasha what to do. Rolling down her pants and her shirt up a little bit, she flinched a little as the cold gel hit her stomach.
“Alright, it looks like you’re seven weeks along,” the technician said as they moved the wand to look at the fetus. “Baby looks all nice and healthy which is good. Now for the heartbeat.”
Moving the screen for Bob and Phoenix to look at it, they saw the small jellybean-sized fetus on the screen. With big smiles on their faces, Bob kissed the back of Phoenix’s hand which he was holding, and looked back on the screen.
“Love hearing a strong heartbeat,” the tech said as the baby’s heartbeat filled the room.
Phoenix’s doctor soon came into the room and checked everything before giving an estimated due date for the couple. Her doctor also talked to her about taking the prenatal vitamins she has been taking and what foods to avoid while pregnant. Bob made a mental note of all of the food she wasn’t able to eat so he could buy them after she gave birth.
Scheduling her next appointment, they received the ultrasound pictures and headed out of the doctor’s office hand in hand. Getting into the car, they looked at the pictures and took pictures of them with it before Bob drove to base to drop his wife off.
After being dropped off, Phoenix went to her locker and dropped everything off before being met with a wave of morning sickness. Rushing to one of the stalls, she puked out her breakfast and flushed it down. Thankfully nobody was in the locker room so she collected herself before popping in an anti-nausea pregnancy candy and heading out of the locker room.
“Phoenix,” Payback greeted her as she walked out of the locker room. “You missed the morning briefing.”
“Yeah, I told you guys that I had a doctor’s appointment,” she smiled.
“Can we?” Payback asked while motioning his head to the empty classroom.
“Sure,” she nodded her head and they headed into the empty classroom.
“Sorry to be that person but are you pregnant?” Payback questioned.
“How did you know?” Phoenix’s eyes widened. “Bob and I found out last week.”
“I have three kids,” Payback chuckled. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.”
“It better,” she glared at him. “If one more person finds out, trust me you don’t want to know what will happen.”
“I promise on my grandmother’s grave,” Payback promised.
“Good,” she smiled. “Now I need to tell Cyclone so excuse me.”
Exiting the classroom, Phoenix went to Cyclone’s office and told him the news along with the doctor’s note from her doctor. Cyclone congratulated her and Bob before giving her the paperwork to fill out for maternity leave. Thanking him and taking the stack of paperwork, she left his office and headed to her shared office with Rooster, Jake, and Omaha. Hiding the paperwork in one of her drawers, she sent a text to Bob saying that Payback and Cyclone now know before starting her work.
