Pulling up to the usual parking spot in front of Ice's and Maverick's house, Bob and Phoenix looked at each other and exhaled. They had nothing to worry about, they had a good reaction from their immediate families. Telling their captain and the admiral wouldn’t be a challenge. The Navy also knew that they married over two years ago and hadn’t caused any problems. Everything was going to be okay.
“Are you okay?” Bob looked at his wife.
“Yeah,” she nodded. “Just trying to keep the morning sickness down. Do you have those-”
Without answering, Bob pulled the cherry pregnancy pop out of his bag and handed it to his wife. She popped it into her mouth and started to feel the sickness slowly fading away. Getting out of the car with the gift bag in hand, the couple walked up the walkway to the front door and knocked on it.
“Bob, Phoenix,” Maverick opened the door and hugged his children. “Come in.”
“How was your trip?” Ice asked as the four of them sat down on the back patio.
“It was good,” Bob replied. “It was nice seeing our families again after a while.”
“We got a gift for you,” Phoenix said while placing the bag on the table.
“You didn’t have to get us anything,” Maverick told them.
Opening the bag, the couple pulled out the tissue paper that was stacked in there. The two first pulled out a small pair of aviators, then a flight suit which triggered a switch in Mav’s head.
“No,” Mav’s eyes widened as Ice pulled out the sonogram. “Really?”
“Yep,” Phoenix nodded in confirmation with tears forming in her eyes.
“Oh my god!” Ice and Mav got out of their chairs and hugged them.
“How far along are you?” Ice questioned.
“Just a little over thirteen weeks,” Phoenix rubbed her small, slightly visible bump.
“Wait, you’re telling me that you flew while pregnant?” Maverick slightly raised his voice in concern.
“Don’t worry, we didn’t tell anyone because of the risk and I got cleared by my doctor and base doctor and Cyclone,” Phoenix reassured her fathers. “Also, when I reach twenty weeks, I going to stop flying.”
“You better, even if you’re twenty weeks, and one day, I’ll ground you,” Maverick said before sipping on his lemonade.
“So, does anyone in the squadron know?” Ice asked them.
“Well Payback figured it out easily,” Bob replied. “The man has three kids so he just knows.”
“We’re planning on telling everyone else at the Hard Deck tonight,” Phoenix added.
“To Natasha having a healthy and safe pregnancy,” Ice raised his glass.
“And to Baby Floyd being healthy,” Maverick added.
With their glasses filled with lemonade, all of them clinked their glasses before taking a sip. While they were there, Phoenix and Bob talked about their trip and how happy their parents were when they got told the news. Bob also told them about how teaching at the local high school near the base is.
A year after the uranium mission, Bob decided to go into the reserves and become a high school biology teacher. He had always planned on becoming a teacher but wanted to be in the Navy more. He also started to fall for Phoenix, causing him to have the realization that it would be better to become a teacher and let Phoenix thrive in her career as a pilot. Even though it was a lower pay grade, he enjoys teaching his students the subject he loves.
Soon the couple had to leave and head to the Hard Deck ahead of their friends to tell Penny the plan. Phoenix and Bob all got each of their squadron members a bottle of their favorite beer and created special labels announcing their pregnancy. Walking into the Hard Deck, they greeted Penny and told her the news. While the excitement was high, they told her the plan and gave her the bottles of alcohol.
“Well, isn’t it Bob and Phoenix,” Hangman greeted them with Rooster behind him.
Greeting them and the rest of their squadron members, they headed to the pool table and the table they usually sat at. Bob got all of them a round of drinks, making Phoenix’s virgin of course, before Penny brought out the other bottles.
“This is from a new company, let me know what you guys think,” Penny winked at them.
Taking a sip from their bottles, everyone has a sense of familiarity when drinking it. Bob and Phoenix had grins on their faces seeing everyone else take another sip. Payback was playing along since Bob and Phoenix already told him what they planned.
“No!” Halo exclaimed as she saw the label. “Are you serious?”
“What? Oh my god!” Fanboy’s eyes widened as he also saw the label.
Soon everyone else looked at the label on their bottle to see the pregnancy announcement there.
“Wait, how come you’re not freaking out?” Fanboy asked his pilot.
“Already knew,” Ruben had a smug look on his face. “When you have three children, you know.”
“So, when are you due?” Yale asked.
“Estimated due date is February 7th,” Phoenix rubbed her bump.
“Baby on Board is going to have a baby on board soon,” Hangman said.
“You already told Mav and Ice didn’t you?” Rooster raised his eyebrow.
“Yep,” the two nodded.
“Oh god,” Rooster groaned, “Mav’s going to be insufferable.”
“Hey, the kids love Grandpa Mav,” Payback chuckled.
Everyone laughed and congratulated the couple. They stayed there for another hour until Phoenix was getting tired. Saying goodbye to their friends and Penny, the two went to the car and Bob started driving them home.
