Chapter Text

"Stevie, you awake?”
Bucky’s croaking voice was a stark contrast to the silence the night had put them in.
He kissed Steve’s shoulder that he was curled around until Steve made some noise of consciousness.
The blonde turned his head so he could see Bucky's face, which was only illuminated by the glow of the moonlight through the blinds.
A slow smile stretched onto his face as his lover buried his face back into his chest before continuing,
“I was just thinking, I want to get married.”
Steve chuckled slightly before replying,
“Honey, you do realise we’re already married, right? We’ve been married a long time,”
he let the word long flow past his lips for longer to properly emphasise his point, all Bucky did was laugh and lightly smack his arm.
He pulled his face back to look him in the eye.
“Of course I do, Steve you never seem to shut up about it. But it wasn’t legal, under the eyes of the law, you're still up for grabs, and I can’t have anyone thinking they can snatch my husband from me, as if I’d ever let them that close, but I feel like I’m rambling. Please say someth-“
Steve quickly cuts him off with a kiss that he pulls away from just as soon as it started to giggle a little bit before pulling Bucky back in all over again for longer, letting them both enjoy it before finally pulling back,
"Yes, Buck, of course I’ll marry you again, I’d say that I love you in front of the entire world if it made you happy, hell, I’d tell the Martians if it made you smile for even a minute.”
Bucky's gaze softened, and he snuggled back into his husband,
“I love you to, you big oaf, now get back to sleep.” The words were muffled, but Steve chuckled all the same before settling back down and falling asleep again, Bucky still cuddled against his side and what seemed like every available patch of skin he could cling to.

When Steve woke up, they were intertwined, limbs wrapped and squashed in ways that only sleep could produce.
He slowly reached himself, careful not to stir Bucky till his alarm went off.
He crept downstairs, starting breakfast for them both, and started boiling water for the fancy coffee machine that Bucky insisted they needed now. Steve cracked a few eggs and put them in the pan, leaving them to golden before he heard Bucky's alarm go off, his groan and the slow almost stomp to the kitchen for his coffee.
He quickly pulled the boiled water off the stove and emptied it into the machine, it whirled a few times and slowly started pouring coffee into the pot, just as Bucky rounded the hall's wall into the kitchen,
“Oh, thank the Lord, you made coffee, I knew I kept you around for something,”
a grin formed on Bucky's face, and he pulled Steve into a kiss before pouring himself a big mug, his voice still had that scratchy overtone from sleep. Steve slowly flipped the eggs onto a plate, pushing one in front of his husband, where he sat at the breakfast bar, and brought his plate over so he could sit next to him.
The drowsiness of last night had finally worn off, and they began talking about what it meant
“So, you still want to marry me? Coffee demon and all?” Steve snorted loudly and shoved his arm slightly, his voice remained amused as he kept talking
“Don’t be stupid, of course I do, but... what are we going to tell the team? I mean, we’ve kept this all very private, I don’t even think they know we’re dating, let alone married, and wanting to get married again nearly 70 years later..”
He let his head hit Bucky's shoulder, his hand immediately coming to tangle in his husband's short blond hair,
“I don’t even know how to do it, how did we tell the howling commandos? How did I tell Peggy? What are they going to say? I’m scared buck” All Steve could do was sigh and sink further into Bucky's flesh shoulder,
“The howlies only knew because they figured it out for themselves, and you only told Carter because she told you about Angie! We’ve never told anyone before, and of course it’s going to be a bit terrifying, but people in this century are a lot more accepting of us, why don’t we just go slow, one person at a time?”
Steve sighed again but agreed lightly.
They both finished up their breakfast before moving to the couch, they couldn’t help but think about their last wedding; it hadn’t been anything big because they were still at war, but they stood in an old bombed church.
Half the walls were crumbling and crushed, but they didn’t care.
For some reason, dum dum was legally an officiant, because what couldn’t that guy do? All they had to do was get the rings, and Peggy took care of that. They stood across from each other.
The howling commandos stood on the pews, shouting and whistling before they all gave a speech.
Then it was the actual ceremony, and they kissed, and it was official.
They couldn’t ask for anything better.
Of course, this was nothing but a warm happy memory now, but it was there’s to enjoy, almost like logs on a fire, completely surrounding them with warmth whenever they did think about one of the happiest days of their lives.
"So, Stevie, what are we doing? Are we telling them? If you’re not ready, I still think we could hide it, but us both wearing wedding rings would probably tip them off that something happened.”
Steve knew he had other things he should be doing, but he couldn’t seem to care, even if it was just listening to his ramble.
He would give up the world if it meant staying longer by the man's side.
“I’ve had an idea…"
He began, gently playing with Bucky's hair, the thick brown strands of hair smooth on his fingers. He remembered how they used to be calloused from battles, his fingers scratchy and hard from holding his sheild.
Having Bucky back completely changed that, he couldn’t imagine not being with Bucky every moment, so he let his fingers heal, he fixed his habits that kept him from his love, and now here they were.
It was because of this wonderful, reckless, gorgeous man he was lucky to lie across from.
It was because of him, his lover, his best friend, his husband-to-be, his Bucky.
He smiled gently at him again, at Bucky's eyes closed with his eyelashes together
"Let’s tell them, but can we mess with them a little? I just feel like we live in the same apartment, we have one bedroom, we share clothes and they still think we’re just best friends? And I want to get back at Tony and Nat for setting me up on all those stupid dates even though I told them not to every time!”
Bucky couldn’t help but to sigh fondly at his lover's actions, but agreed because he would do anything to keep Steve happy.
Then came the planning, only little notes for the day, but mainly they sat in silence, enjoying the warm, comfortable silence that held them in their little bubble on the couch.
They’d lost enough time together; they had to make up for it somehow.
They stayed enveloped in each other's arms for as long as they could.

That was until Tony fucking Stark came banging on their door.
