Work Text:

Starlight resided in a small apartment at the centre of Ostania, though this was just temporary.

Whenever she walked past a place of her childhood, it would remind her of the life she once had.

Though it was at most only for two years, they were the best memories that Starlight ever made.

Back when her name was Anya forger.

Though Starlight wasn’t sure if she should appreciate her Twilight for giving her such pleasant memories of the past, or resent him for sending her back to the orphanage.

Should she be happy when Twilight said that he would always be her father, or hate him for his thoughts that knew he would have to leave her behind?

Though Starlight didn’t like to question that, for she was no longer Anya Forger and trivial things like her family weren’t important anymore.

Today was a day where Starlight and free from any missions, or doing anything that revolved around her job as a spy.

On days like these she likes to visit her favourite cafe, which served cakes which were flavoured like peanuts.

It was best to go just before office workers were on their lunch break and the cafe was flooded with the thighs and noises of the different people.

Though crowds no longer bothered Starlight, she did prefer to enjoy her breaks in peace and silence.

After purchasing and sitting down to eat her peanut cake, she overheard the thoughts of someone.

Someone familiar, well two people who were familiar. She focused solely on their thoughts.

Oh. Twilight was back in Ostania. There was someone else too. A woman, about Twilights age.

Ah right, Yor Briar. They were together, but Starlight couldn’t understand why. Didn’t Yor flee with her brother to another continent?

What were they doing here together? Starlight couldn’t understand.

Any wanted to go up to them and hug her Mama and Papa.

Starlight stabbed into her peanut cake, quite roughly which nearly dented the fork which she was using.

They seemed to be catching up with each other, like an old married couple almost.

Oh.

That hurt, though it filled Starlight with curiosity.

She knew that she shouldn’t be so impulsive but it was hard not to want to know what their reaction to the current her was.

Plus, Starlight wanted to confirm their relationship. After all the greatest spy ever wouldn’t actually
love someone would they?

Starlight quickly finished up her peanut cake as the two were getting up to leave.

__________________________________________

It was clear both her parents knew she was tailing them, even without reading their minds Anya knew they were too good not to notice.

Maybe Starlight wanted them to notice her too.

Though they didn’t know her identity, which gave Starlight a sense of relief.

Finally Starlight followed them into an alley which they led her into. Suddenly her Mama appeared behind her ready to attack.

To her surprise she was just as strong as she was in her youth, maybe even more so. However Starlight was a better spy than even twilight.

Starlight dodged as Yor was standing beside Papa.

She stepped towards them, giving them a clearer view of herself.

Immediately, her Mama was analysing how trained and toned the muscles on her were and she was shockingly accurate.

Though her Papa went in a different direction.

He studied the fact that she would tail them, how she was intentionally not covering up her trace properly and that perhaps she wanted to be found.

He took note of how familiar the style of which she used to tail them was familiar. How she looked, her full shoulder length pink hair and hollow eyes.

Was she an agent of WISE? If so why would she be following him? These were the thoughts of Twilight.

It shocked Starlight how her own father didn’t recognise her. Was she that different?

“Why were you-“ Twilight began but Mama cut him off.

“Anya?” Her mother said, her voice pained seemingly cracking almost. Twilights eyes widened in shock.

His thoughts were so fast Starlight could barely keep up. He was ashamed of himself, for not recognising her, he was regretful that he left her behind.

There was probably more but Starlight didn’t want to hear it. It seemed that mama was crying, or ar least tearing up.

She was ashamed of herself, running away and leaving perhaps?

“Please forget that name, I have no use for it anymore.” Starlight stated coldly.

But Anya wanted to hear her mother say it once more, for her father to tuck her into bed and kiss her on the forehead after reading her a bedtime story, one that he kept critiquing for being nonsensical in his head.

Anya wanted to be greeted by her mama when she got home, and to be asked if she had a good day.

Those were all things that Starlight however did not need.

__________________________________________

She still remembers that day vividly, it was a day when all her nightmares came true.

When he offered to take her some place, she already knew where she was going.

She didn’t want to go back, Anya begged, screamed and cried for Twilight not to let her go.

But in the end she was still returned to the orphanage.

The orphanage was not safe anymore. If the scientists found her, she would be taken back to the lab and forced to study.

Good thing bond was there with her, and they escaped the orphanage together.

Anya wanted to return to her home, but there was no way they would take her back now.

She and bond lived together on streets after that, stealing things and learning to use her mind reading ability.

She knew who had money that she could steal, she knew what they would do and she along with bond were the best duo.

It wasn’t as good as when she was with her papa, but she understood why he left her. Anya was still happy though, since she had bond.

When Anya was 13 years old she found Bond dead. She didn’t know if it was natural or if he was beat to death.

Maybe she really grew up on that day, she never felt anything other than resentment after that. Sometimes she would think of her childhood friends from the elite school she attended.

People whose faces she could no longer recall.

Anya became much more dangerous after bond’s death. After all she had nothing to lose.

The other kids on the streets all feared her, and she became a skilled thief who was familiar with all the sewers and pathways of Ostania.

One day she was captured by the agents of WISE. It was nostalgic.

They told her she had to abandon the name “Anya” but she didn’t mind, that name only brought her pain.

Training was tough but she didn’t mind, it was better than the streets.

_____________________________________________

It was surprising how even after being such a good agent for WISE she has never met the famous Twilight.

But now that she’s infront of her papa again, Starlight doesn’t have much to say to him.

Notes:

This was inspired by a fanfic where Anya became a spy later killing Twilight and then herself, I honestly only wrote this so I could ask if anyone had the link please drop it because I cannot find it anywhere.
