Work Text:

The first time, he barely pays attention. He’s a bit annoyed, because Dean and him fought again about their father. The man is dead and still, he finds ways to make his presence heavy. Sam is sad, of course, he was their father, after all. And as much as he resents him, he didn’t wish this. He would have been happy to just live far from him. Dean still feels guilty over a lot of things and is torn between what he wants and what he thinks their father would have wanted.

So Sam is brooding on the bus, headphones on with some punchy music that does nothing to alleviate his mind. Someone sits next to him, a young blond man with stubble and dark bags under his eyes. He tries to keep his face neutral and not to frown. The bus is crowded and the guy probably wants to be alone too.

They have a quick eye contact and then turn away. The bus finally stops after 30 minutes and they get off.

The second time, the blond man has a black eye and Sam can’t help raising an eyebrow. The man shrugs and smiles, dropping next to him. Sam texts back Dean, who’s telling him about a girl he met. Then Rowena sends him a photo of a naked man on a bed, tied up and blindfolded, with her reflection in the mirror on the left. She’s smiling, dressed in an elegant black and sparkly dress, a whip in hand. He quickly swipes, embarrassed. If the man saw something, he says nothing. He really should be more careful when he opens something from Rowena.

The third time, there’s not many people on the bus. Yet, the man sits next to him, munching on candies and offers the candy bag, tilting his head. Sam finds himself taking a colored gummy bear and nodding as a thank you.

Sam takes this bus once a week and he gets used to having the blond man sitting next to him. They don’t talk. They exchange nods and small smiles, but that’s it.

After three months of this, Sam feels very upset when the bus starts with an empty seat next to him. He wonders if the man is alright. If he will be here the following week.

He isn’t. Sam has to wait for another week to have his travel companion back. They give each other real smiles this time. He kinda wants to ask. They know nothing about each other but he feels close to him. 30 minutes a week. It’s not much, but he got used to his presence.

The blond is on his phone, texting rapidly with someone. Sam can’t help himself and takes a peek. He’s writing to someone named “Little fucker”, who seems to mostly communicate with gifs. Sam stops there, because he doesn’t want to intrude, but he’s getting more and more curious.

It’s summer now and one day, the man comes in with a black tank top and hot pants. Sam has to control himself not to look at the pale thighs. It wouldn’t do to pop a boner right here. Why is he sitting so close to him ?

He begins to dream about the guy. And the dreams are hotter than the Impala left in the sun. He wakes up with drenched sheets and a hard dick, needing only a few strokes to cum. It’s getting hard to smile innocently at the guy and pretend he’s not all kind of hot for him. Like he doesn’t crave to touch his messy hair and kiss his mouth. He has no idea if the man could be interested after all.

Sam isn’t good with that kind of things. If Jess hadn’t made the first step, he would have pined over her forever.

More weeks pass. Sam tells someone he’s waiting for his friend when they ask if they can sit next to him. The blond bursts into the bus, panting, his hair even messier than usual. He sees the person going to another seat and he smiles at Sam, dropping next to him.

They look at each other regularly. He sees that “Little fucker” gets a nice text that goes along the line of I’m gonna kill you and cut your body in parts to toss them to dogs, and he wonders what they did to deserve such a threat.

One day, the man has dark circles under his eyes again. He looks tired. Five minutes after the bus started, he falls asleep, his head hovering over Sam’s shoulder. It finally lands on it and Sam holds his breath, afraid to wake him up and happy to get some contact. He doesn’t dare to move. When the bus stops, the man blinks awake, looking at Sam with confusion. He smiles, and boldly combs back a strand of hair that falls on the man’s face. He’s afraid of having crossed a line, heart loud in his chest, but the blond gives him a heated look, biting his lip through his smile. They get off the bus and part ways. His dreams that night are even sexier than usual.

They begin to flirt. It’s nice and fun, and he spends the whole week waiting to take the bus. They still haven’t said a word to each other. Their thighs are pressed together now, and the man likes to sleep on him. They end up holding hands and Sam likes to stroke his long fingers.

One day, the man presses a kiss right below his ear and he has to fight not to moan. Instead, he squeezes his hand tight and uses the other to touch the man’s cheek. He kisses him on the mouth and suddenly, there are butterflies in his stomach. It gets harder to part every time. Yet, they don’t speak and don’t ask for the other’s contact.

It’s getting unbearable. They spend a whole journey kissing and an old woman gives them a judging look. He wants more. He’s afraid of breaking the spell. He likes what they have.

Then the man disappears. He waits a few weeks, but he’s not coming back. He lets someone else sit next to him. Dean takes him bar-hopping, trying to cheer him up, but he’s miserable.

Gabriel is celebrating his birthday and he nearly forgets to buy him a present. He nearly forgets to come too. No one knows about the man of the bus, so they all ask what’s wrong. He doesn’t tell.

“Oh Sam, you really are the best ! ” Gabriel exclaims when he opens his present. It’s an art book with erotic illustrations all about blasphemy. To be honest, Gabriel is not hard to please, he could have simply bought anything about sex. But Sam has standards. “It’s amazing, look at the nun’s tits ! You know, it reminds me of the time my brother booked a stripper for me and she did a whole act like that. It was for my eighteenth birthday and there was my whole family, you should have seen their faces ! My brother is a big bag of dicks, but he’s also great. Don’t tell him I’ve said that.”

“I never met your bothers, which one is it anyway ? Surely not Michael.”

“Course not. It’s Lucifer.”

Sam gives him a side glance. “Your parents didn’t call him Lucifer.” Knowing how religious they are, there’s no way.

“Of course not, but it’s my name now.” A smug voice says behind them.

“Luci ??!! You’re alive !”

“Don’t be so dramatic, I was away for a few weeks. And I told you.”

“Don’t remember.”

Sam blinks at the newcomer. That’s the man of the bus. It’s the first time he hears his voice and he desperately wants to kiss him.

“Lucifer, this is Sam, you know, my smart friend. Sam, that’s my one of my brother, be careful, he’s a jerk. But he came back in the state now Pop’s dead.”

“We know each other.” Sam blurts.

“You do ? ”

Lucifer – seriously ? – looks at him with hunger in his eyes. But also stays at distance.

“You never called.”

Sam frowns. “Call ? How ? I don’t have your number.”

“Yes you do, I put it in your pocket the last time we saw each other.”

His mouth falls open. He remembers that he was wearing a shirt, but Dean spilt beer all over him and he put it in the washing machine. The same shirt he’s wearing today. He shoves his hand in his pockets and retrieves a crumpled, washed-out piece of paper.

“Oh.”

“I thought you weren’t interested anymore.”

Sam puts the paper back in his pocket and walks towards Lucifer to grab him by the shirt and kiss him. He can hear Gabriel choking on his own saliva from surprise but he’s too busy savouring the kiss. Lucifer’s arms are around him and his hands naturally find their place on the blond’s hips.

“I’m not letting you go again.”

“Can’t believe that little fucker hid you all those years. I heard a lot about you Sam, I just didn’t know what you looked like.”

“Well, I heard very savoury things about you.” He laughs. “I’m glad to see you again.” He says, softer.

Gabriel is still looking at them with shock. “I’m gonna need the whole story, because that’s …really unexpected, to say the least.”

“Well, we met on the bus. I was in a bad mood with the funeral and all, and I saw this handsome moose, so I had to sit next to him. And…”

The next time they take the bus, they come in together, because they spent the night at Sam’s.
