Work Text:

Your husband is handsome. That’s as clear as day. If looks could kill, one look from Gale Dekarios could take you out in two seconds flat. You love the way he looks sitting at his desk in your shared home, scribbling various magical phrases and spells into his thick, leather notebook. The one inscribed with his name in gold on the spine (which you had proudly bought him for his birthday). You even adore the occasional murmuring of indecipherable sentences under his breath. You’re just happy to hear his voice.

Your husband is Pretty. His tender, sweet words sound like honey to you and reading his slightly cringey poetry about you is even better. Theres nothing you want more than to pull your husband in and tell him every fluffy, sappy thing you could possibly say to him. There is no true word to describe Gale Dekarios’ beauty. You love this man more than the sky loves its stars and he should know that.

Which is why it’s so concerning that Gale doesn’t seem to fully realise it. You’re sure it’s because of Mystra. How the vile deity scarred your sweet love so deeply that he only feels inadequacy in the face of your love. you can see it in the way he looks at you like a lost puppy on those nights where you do simple, ordinary things that anyone would do for their beloved husband.

The first time you asked to help with the cooking he’d looked at you like you’d proposed. He had continuously asked if you were sure and you had to reassure him that it was something you wanted to do together as a couple. Although the rest of the cooking went smoothly and Gale seemed quite happy to have company, the thought of Gales surprised reaction had sunk in your stomach like a heavy stone. That’s not even scraping the surface of things gale has given you that look for. While you adore that bewildered look you’d very much prefer he not be surprised by trivial things like you helping with dinner or reading a book with him.

So you plan. You plan, prepare and admittedly spend a lot of your time staring at your husband. He’s definitely catching on that you’re doing something. Gale is a very, very smart man. Another thing you fell in love with him for. Of course he figures out you’re doing something, so as the curious mind he is, he sets himself the task of finding out.

“What’re you up to?” Gale asks suspiciously, appearing mysteriously from behind you while you’re putting things away in the bathroom. You had been preparing to treat gale and had bought a few of gales favourite, rather expensive products. Which he doesn’t usually purchase for himself to save money.

“What ever do you mean, love?” You exclaim, scrambling to hide the products from him. You feel gales hands on your hips, gently pulling you against his chest, which you welcome enthusiastically.

“You’re acting oddly.” Gale states, giving you a peck on the temple “more so than usual” he continues, tilting his head to sneak a peek at what you are hiding. It luckily turns out to be fruitless, as you’d hidden it suitably well.

“Just putting some things away, i wouldn’t say I’m acting odd” you huff over dramatically, trying to throw him off the scent, then grin. “Maybe you’re the one acting oddly.” You retort, leaning your head back against his chest. Theres a slight pause and gale sighs softly.

“I dont like when you hide things from me, love” gale says nervously “did i do something wrong?” He fiddles with the hem of your shirt. You can practically sense the worry seep from gales pores. worrying gale is the absolute opposite of what you wanted to be doing here.

“Oh no. god no.” You spin around to face gale and wrap your arms around his neck. “Far from it! Im just…” you decide it’s better for your plans to be discovered sooner rather than upsetting Gale. So hesitantly you reveal your gifts to him. Gale gasps softly, lighting up like you just pulled heaven to earth for him.

“You bought me something?” He takes the gifts into his arms with childlike joy. Then pulls you into a soft, sweet kiss “thank you so much, my dear…” he chirps greatfully.

“Ah, thats not all, my love!” You exclaim, leading him to the edge of the bath “tonight i’m caring for you, if you’ll let me?” You ask intimately. You dont mean sexually. No. You want to give Gale comfort. You want to wash his hair and whisper sweet nothings into his ear. You want to show him that you cherish him more than anything. You want to show him that he is loved, because Gale doesn’t seem to accept it himself.

After a reluctant nod from your lover, you walk over and press the plug into the bath. You run the warm water until the bath is full, adjusting the temperature a little so it’s suitable for Gale. Then, you pour out a generous amount of lavender bubble bath, mixing it in with your hand. You gently help lift Gales shirt over his head and give his chest a comforting kiss.
“You deserve this” you whisper to him, before the rest of Gales clothes are carefully folded and placed on the counter. Gale eases himself into the warm bath with a relaxed groan. You light some rosemary scented candles and begin to gently comb your hands through Gales hair.

“Oh dear…” Gale sighs softly “you didn’t have to do this for me.” he purrs, relaxed and leaning back into your touch.

“No” you muse “but i wanted to.” you lather Gales favourite shampoo into his hair.

“You spoil me, my love” Gale coos, smiling as his eyes flick shut.

“You deserve to be spoiled” you chime back, smitten as you massage his scalp. Gale raises his eyebrow.

“Is that so? What did I do to deserve this?”He asks playfully, letting the shampoo be delicately washed out.

“You existed” you remark. Doing similar steps with the conditioner. Gale whines quietly, melting at the feeling of your delicate touches.

“You’re good at this” he acknowledges, “I don’t want it to be over.” he chuckles softly.

“We can do this more often” You reassure, finishing up washing all the product out of his hair. “What about… every Saturday?” You offer with a smile, looking at your husbands puppy-dog eyes.

“I’d very much like that.” Gale confirms, leaning in. Your lips press lovingly against his. Tonight, when the candles are extinguished, when the lights are shut off, and you hold your husband close…you know indefinitely. Your husband is beautiful.

Notes:

Gale is such a silly little guy. I can’t convey that enough

(I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET RID OF THE LARGE GAPS AFTER SPEECH!!!)
