“Ah!” Jiang Cheng exclaims, perking up as he hears the front door open. He puts down his phone on the kitchen counter and peers around the corner. “You’re home!”, he greets, watching as Lan Wangji makes his way towards the couch.
Jiang Cheng frowns.
“Mn” Wangji responds tiredly, plopping down on their couch with a sigh. He lets himself fall sideways and Jiang Cheng’s eyebrows rise in surprise.
“Oh?” Jiang Cheng questions sympathetically, “Rough day?”
“Hello my love” Wangji mumbles, watching as Jiang comes to crouch in front of him. He gives a tired smile and nods.
"Hi” Jiang says softly, pushing some of Wangji’s wayward locks away from his face. He continues, gently patting his head, and Wangji sighs, closing his eyes, pushing into Jiang Cheng’s soft touch. “Scoot” Jiang Cheng mumbles, shimmying behind Wangji’s body. With his front now flushed with Wangji’s back, Jiang Cheng wraps his arms around his boyfriend’s torso, and hooks his chin over his shoulder.
“Missed you” Wangji says with a sigh, eyes still closed. Jiang Cheng pecks his cheek, once, twice, three times until Wangji smiles and turns in his embrace. He hugs Jiang Cheng back, with a little more fierceness than Jiang Cheng’s used to on the regular.
“What’s wrong, Bun?”
Wangji buries his face into the crook of Jiang Cheng’s neck and breathes in deeply.
“Lost a patient today” Wangji mumbles, and Jiang Cheng’s heart breaks for his boyfriend. “It was—it was terminal, I knew it was coming”
“Doesn’t mean it hurts any less” Jiang Cheng assures him. Wangji squeezes him tightly and kisses his neck softly. “Sorry baby” Jiang Cheng whispers, kissing the top of Wangji’s head. “Want me to run you a nice and warm bath? And I’ll make us some dinner while you soak. We can relax, watch a movie or something. Bit of an early night. You could definitely use some rest” Jiang Cheng tells him.
“Mn” Wangji mumbles, “perfect”. He cranes his neck and asks Jiang Cheng for a kiss, which he happily gives. Wangji hums contentedly, then he notices something—“Are you wearing my shirt?” he asks pulling away and eying Jiang Cheng.
“What?”, he asks, cheeks flushing pink under Wangji’s heated gaze.
“This is my shirt” Wangji tells him, smirking up at him.
“I mean—well, what does it matter? It doesn’t fit you anymore” Jiang Cheng grumbles trying to untangle himself from Wangji’s limbs.
“Don’t get cranky” Wangji chuckles, pulling him back into his arms and kissing him soundly. “It looks really good on you” he whispers against Jiang Cheng’s parted lips.
Jiang Cheng snorts and pushes him away. “Come on, time for your bath, you smell” he says jokingly.
Wangji pouts at him, shaking his head and refusing to let go of him. He tightens his grip, and buries his face in Jiang Cheng’s chest once more. “Let me appreciate you in my clothes” Wangji grumbles, sliding his hands underneath the hem of Jiang Cheng’s shirt, kneading at his sides softly. Wangji’s lips begin a trail of feather light kisses along the length of Jiang Cheng’s neck, making him sigh.
“Wan—Wangji!” Jiang Cheng whines, trying to squirm away. Wangji’s hold on him impossible to break.
“It’s been a long, rough week. Can I just have a few moments like this? With my beloved in my arms?” Wangji questions, and Jiang Cheng’s resolve crumbles.
“What about dinner? And your bath?”, he asks. Wangji makes a noncommittal sound before leaning in once again to capture Jiang Cheng’s lips in a soft kiss.
He supposes this is just as fine.
