"C'mon Mario, there are Star Pieces to be found!" Geno said as he took Mario by the hand and ran off through the door, its lock-like opening shrinking once they went through.
The surrounding scenery was a quiet, starry desert of blue stardusts and green star flowers. As the two approached the flowers, they seemed to glow from the strong courage to find the fallen Star Piece.
The wishes seemed to speak to them as they walked, each in a familiar voice.
"I wish I weren't such a crybaby."
"I wish I had some cricket jam."
"If I could JUST get that melody!"
"Wish I could run faster."
"I wanna be a great plumber like my brother Mario."
"The hunger! Oh, for some food!"
They went through door after door until they found the Star Piece. Geno sent it up to the remains of Star Road. Before they left, Geno stopped walking and turned around.
"Mario... I thank you for helping me so far. I know we only met in Rose Town a few days ago, but..."
Geno stopped. He had to think about his words. He smiled at Mario before continuing, moving the curl out of his eye.
"...It's just... I think I'm in love with you."
Mario held his hand near his heart, looking at Geno in shock. He ran towards him, hugging him.
"I think I am too."
Mario replied, holding Geno close as they watched the stars in the neverending night. Geno picked up a Star Bit and offered it to Mario.
They had a beautiful love in silence. The silence was filled with thousands of unsaid words and the warmth of two lovers, which got them through the cold night.
