Work Text:

“Izuku! Where the fuck’d ya go?” Katsuki shouted down the aisle, and Izuku popped his head out from behind the shelf that he had run off to.

“Right here!” He said and walked back to the cart that Katsuki was leaning against while browsing the boxes in front of him. Izuku put one in.

All Might cereal, of course. Katsuki rolled his eyes.

Once Katsuki was done looking through the cereal for himself, and grabbed an actually healthy kind, he began pushing the cart again with Izuku by his side. “What’s next on the list?”

Izuku pulled the paper list out of his pocket and began reading. “We need milk, next, and then eggs should be close by.”

They walked in silence toward the milk section, not paying much attention, until Katsuki saw Izuku moving out of the corner of his eye.

As Izuku tried to put something into the cart, Katsuki grabbed his hand and stopped him.

“What are you doing?”

Izuku paused for a second with a confused stare on his face. “Putting this into the cart—“

“No,” Katsuki cut him off. “What the hell is that?” He asked with a glare.

Izuku looked down to make sure he had grabbed the right box. “All Might protein bars?” He didn’t know what his husband was getting at.

“Those things are sugar balls. And double the price of the normal ones. Put them back.” Katsuki said as he crossed his arms.

“But Kacchan,” Izuku whined. He then reiterated, “They’re All Might themed!”

“They're not even protein bars at this point! It's all sugar! You’re not going to get your daily intake. That crap isn’t part of your diet.” Katsuki grabbed the box and put it back in place.

Izuku pouted. He knew Katsuki was right, and that he did have a strict diet to stick to. Still, that thought didn’t make his frown go away one bit.

They started walking again, grabbing the milk and heading to find the next thing on their list.

They got eggs, butter, and bread.

Katsuki picked up the cream cheese next, but not the normal kind. It was the specific flavor that Katsuki liked, with herbs and garlic.

Izuku saw his opportunity and immediately rounded on his husband. “Oh. So I can’t get my All Might protein bars, but you can get the cream cheese?”

Katsuki rolled his eyes. “This is different. We always get this.”

“But the regular one is fine. This kind is more expensive. And it’s worse for you—”

“Oh my god, Izuku. You’re not getting those damn protein bars.”

And even when any normal person would just stop, of course, the two of them were stubborn and couldn’t keep from arguing the whole rest of their shopping trip.

That hour reminded them why they never went grocery shopping together. It was better when they did in the long run since one of them usually wanted something specific and didn’t put it on the list. But they always ended up fighting like this. At that point, it would have been better for them to just live without their snacks for a week.

“We are not buying another damn All Might plush Izuku! We have no more room! We’re gonna have to move just to support your addiction.”

“Then we’ll move! Look!” Izuku pointed to the plush in his hand. “It’s one of the old ones from when we were kids. My mom didn’t let me get this one because I got the Golden Age All Might one instead.”

“Shocking she only let you buy one. It’s almost like you couldn’t run a merch store out of your childhood room at this point.” Katsuki shook his head.

Izuku glared at his husband. “Then why don’t we get rid of your berry-flavored energy drinks to make room?”

“I’m trying them out during training! And we’re buying you your All Might sodas, that’s compensation enough. Stop pouting and put that shit down! We’re here for food!’

Izuku glared harder than he already was, if that was possible, and put the stuffed All Might plush down. It wasn’t as if Katsuki didn’t like the All Might merch Izuku had, he was a fan too. But their room was starting to look more like a shrine than anything, and even if Katsuki was a fanboy, he had some sense of fashion and needed to do something about their horrific interior design.

Katsuki had always kept his room neat and tidy growing up. He even made sure his dorm room at U.A.—where no one was allowed in any way—looked nice. But now their shared room was getting him on his last nerve.

“We need ketchup!” Izuku said, looking up from the list as they passed the bottles. He grabbed one before Katsuki stopped him.

“Get the sugar-free one,” He said, snatching the list away from Izuku to look at it himself. “With all this sugary stuff you're making us buy, we need to account for it somewhere.”

“It was just those drinks!”

“And those All Might gummies you put in and thought I wouldn’t notice,” Katsuki said, looking up with a glare at his husband.

“What are you talking about…” Izuku asked, his efforts not paying off. Katsuki still glared with the same fervor. Izuku sighed and gave in. “Okay, yeah, but the sugar-free ketchup tastes disgusting! Don’t make me eat that!”

“Then no gummy bears,” Katsuki said, putting them to the front of the cart so he would remember to put them back later. Izuku huffed.

He knew his husband was right, but he didn’t have to be so mean about it.

“Then why don’t we take one of your snacks away too?”

“I’ve done research to make sure everything I’m getting fits into my diet. And it all does. Unless you can prove that the shit you want to buy fits in, you don’t get any.” Katsuki chided, reaching for the last item on their list, a carton of strawberries. Izuku’s face morphed into a glare. The fact that their shopping trip was over was a blessing.

The two of them honestly didn’t fight anymore, now that they were together. It was only these silly fights that weren’t too serious. The grocery store and other rarer occasions were the only times it happened. And Izuku was glad for that.

They had fought every day for so long that it was almost more natural for them to be like this than to not. Now, Izuku loved that their relationship was changing for the better, but their relationship was still built on wanting to be better than the other and trying to surpass each other. And with that came occasional bickering like this. Izuku didn’t mind that this hadn’t changed. It was almost like a nice way to blow off steam, and their constant need to one-up each other was a reminder of how much they really loved each other.

And the fighting? It was the same way. Nothing serious, just a way for them to outdo each other. And when Katsuki called him an idiot, it was the same way he had every day when they were kids, and he had loved Izuku then too. It was almost endearing.

Katsuki had clearly come out on top today, but that just meant Izuku would have to prove how amazing he was next time.

Izuku cooled off from their bickering as he waited for his husband to get back in line after running off to get one last thing, and then as they walked back to their apartment with the bags in his hand. He looked at his husband's face. Contentment was all that showed there. Izuku smiled back.

They began unbagging the groceries in their kitchen, and Izuku still smiled up at Katsuki. “Sorry for fighting…but you have to let me be unhealthy sometimes.”

“Keep telling yourself that…” Katsuki said with a smirk, then reached over and pulled Izuku into him, planting a kiss into his hair.

Then it was over, as if it never happened. Katsuki went and put a movie on for them both, getting the leftovers out from the fridge, and leaving Izuku to put away the last of the groceries.

Izuku finished and turned toward the direction of the living room, ready to cuddle with his husband. But he stopped in his tracks, turning to something that caught his eye on the counter. Izuku picked it up.

“Izuku,” Katsuki shouted from the couch the next room over, “Get over here, the movies' starting!”

“One second!” Izuku shouted back, not caring much about the movie.

It was the All Might plushy. And the gummy bears.

Izuku didn’t know how to react. He just stared.

“Izuku!” Katsuki yelled again.

“Yeah,” Izuku responded, and this time, immediately turned to walk over to the living room. Because while he didn’t care about the movie, he cared about his husband. And he wasn’t going to make him wait any longer.

And, oh, how much he loved him.
