Why do Lothal have two moons?
Many people have asked this question.
Skeptics would say that it could be due to the fact that one large moon was somehow divided into two parts.
But others say another reason.
Namely, that it is connected with the old legend.
About a woman who wanted a marridge.
About her jealous and cruel husband.
And about the Lothal's guardian Dume and his son.
---
A very long time ago on Lothal lived a young woman, Mira, on Lothal, whose dream above all else was to marry one man.
Unfortunately, the man himself, Ephraim was his name, didn't show much interest in Mira, which greatly hurt her heart.
And one day she learned about the legend about the protector of Lothal, which takes the shape of the moon every night - Dume.
And as the legend said, if you pray to him every full moon, then maybe someday, he will be able to fulfill your wish.
So Mira did it.
Every full moon, she went to the ledge where the silver moon was visible, cried, prayed and asked Dume for one thing.
So that the man she loves loves her too.
That they would have a great wedding and a happy long life.
And after such long nights of requests, Dume heard her.
Returning after another prayer to the protector of Lothal, a blue-violet fog suddenly appeared in front of Mira, from where many pairs of yellow eyes were looking at her.
Mira, in shock, was about to run away when the fog began to dissipate a little, revealing a new landscape.
She was no longer standing in the field.
She stood on the stone path on each side of the young woman stood large four-legged, gray, black and even white creatures.
A Loth-Wolves.
However, there was another large wolf standing in front of Mira herself.
Not just big, he was huge.
His gray fur contrasted perfectly with the purple night sky and his light blue eyes gazed intently at the woman.
But Mira was especially attracted by the unusual snow-white mark on the wolf’s forehead.
The woman swallowed quietly.
Could it be...Dume?
Meanwhile, the huge wolf suddenly closed his eyes and his sign on his forehead that attracted Mira began to glow brighter than any star.
Mira closed her eyes from the light, when Dume changed his appearance.
Now standing in front of Mira was a young man with dark brown hair in a light gray robe that covered silver patterns, and his sign was now on his shoulder in the form of a kind of armor.
His eyes also changed and were now an unusual, bright turquoise color.
After a short silence the man spoke:
"I am Dume, I heard your prayers. And these are my words. You will get your fiance. But in return, you have to give it to me, a child, what will be your firstborn..."
He hesitated briefly before continuing.
"This is your sacrifice, for a love what you crave, and I will love him more than you could."
After that he turned away like the Loth-Wolves.
And they disappeared like the fog.
Mira stood in shock for another minute before smiling happily.
Her wish came true.
After so many years, she will become Ephraim's wife.
And the child?
Well, if Dume wants it, he'll get it, when the time comes.
And with this light thought she went back to her hometown.
---
Less than a week later, Ephraim began courting Mira and soon he offeroffered of hand and heart.
And the young woman who had been waiting for this moment for so long immediately agreed.
The wedding was bright and happy, just like Mira's now Bridger's smile that day.
And after a while the good news came to their family.
Mira was pregnant.
The Bridgers' joy knew no end.
However, at night Ephraim's wife had a dream in which she recognized a very familiar face...
Dume.
He stood in the same stone path where she last saw him.
And he was again in human form.
A couple of seconds later he broke the silence with the words:
"Love. Promise. Firstborn."
After this, Mira suddenly woke up on the sofa in her room.
Ephraim had not yet returned and she was alone.
Standing up, she walked over to the window, thinking.
The young woman never forgot about this promise.
She thought it would be easy for her to give away the child if it meant she would get the one she loved.
But it turned out to be a lie..
Although she was only two months pregnant, she could already tell that she deeply loved her baby..
And in future she will have to give him or her to Dume...
No...
She couldn't do it.
This baby was hers and Ephraim's.
And why does Dume need a child in principle?!
He is the protector of Lothal, not a parent.
He should protect the planet and help people, not raise a child.
It wasn't his duty, but hers and hers husband.
With these thoughts, she quickly grabbed the curtains and closed the window with them, where a sky was already got dark and on it appeared small stars .
Dume must understand her decision.
And she should stop thinking about him and focus on her family...
After that, Dume no longer appeared in Mira's dreams.
Only occasionally she heard a wolf howl in the night which she tried to ignor.
But she also didn't know that it was her child's destiny to one day return to his real father...
For once and for all.
---
Days turned into weeks and weeks into months.
And one summer night, the Bridger baby boy was born.
But both parent's didn't expect the child’s completely unusual appearance.
His skin was caramelled like his mother's but...
His hair wasn't light brown like his parents'.
They were dark blue, like the colors of space...
And his eyes...
This is what amazed everyone...
Bright blue, like two precious sapphires.
And at the same time, strangely reminiscent of the colors of the night..
However, when Mira looked into her son’s eyes, she felt a small wave of fear.
Her baby was as if born from the night itself, the moon itself...
Swallowing, she quickly shook off thoughts of who she thought about...
This baby was hers and Ephraim's.
Not his..
Ephraim was also surprised by his son’s appearance, but something unkind also flashed in his olive eyes.
"He... is not what I expected..." The man said looking at the already sleeping baby boy.
"Well, it seems he takes his appearance from his great-grandfather." Mira answered, trying not to show anxiety.
Ephraim looked at his son again and then shrugged.
He believed.
After this, he went out to tell the news to a couple of his friends about the birth of his son.
The woman breathed a sigh of relief.
She hated lying to her husband, but...
She couldn't think of any other explanation for their baby's mysterious appearance.
Otherwise, she could be accused of treason, which horrified her.
So she will have to remain silent...
Soon seven years passed unnoticed, in which Dume continued to wait for his son.
Until one day everything changed.
In one of the bloodiest days on Lothal.
---
Ephraim Bridger stared silently into the dark night.
There were no stars visible in the sky, only large gray clouds.
Although there was a simple frown on his face, it was as if a bomb had exploded inside him, which burned like hell.
His wife.
The woman who won his heart and promised to be only with him.
Cheated on him.
And his supposed son Ezra was not his!
Ever since the boy was born, Ephraim felt something was wrong.
Ezra received nothing from him, but his wife chalked it up to her distant relatives.
However, every year he began to not believe in this statement.
Then, when his supposed son learned to speak, he once spoke about a certain man who had previously met Mira.
Mira joked that their son had a rich imagination, but Ephraim himself was not amused at all.
His suspicions began to grow even more.
Until yesterday, he asked his wife’s friends about her relatives.
And after much questioning, he found out that Mira didn't have one relative in his family with dark blue hair and blue eyes.
Everything fell into place.
His wife betrayed him, became pregnant by another and dishonored his name.
Anger flared up again in the man with greater force that his vision was filled with a red haze.
And finally after waiting for the his wife who betrayed him, who was putting NOT HIS son to bed, he immediately approached her and began to demand the truth.
"Whose is this son, though? How dare you deceive me?!" He shouted.
The young woman turned pale with fear and began to cry, saying that she loved only him and Ezra was his son, but he didn't listen her.
She was a liar.
And he had had enough.
Noticing a knife on the table, he grabbed it without hesitation.
Three swings of the silver blade and and Mira was lay on the floor in a bloody puddle.
Ephraim just snorted looking at his traitorous wife.
Instead, he began to think about what to do with the child.
One part wanted to get rid of him the same way he got rid of his mother.
But after thinking, he remembered how one of Mira’s friends said that the girl sometimes went to a mountainous ledge not far from the town.
Apparently there she met a stranger from whom she became pregnant.
"Then let this freak go back to where he came from" Ephraim thought to himself before heading to the boy's bedroom.
Having entered the room, he took the kid out of the bed and went downstairs to his speeder bike, which was parked near his former home.
After a couple of minutes, the man reached the ledge where he left the boy there.
After that, he quickly started the bike and left to return to get his things, leaving this place once and for all.
There was nothing else keeping him on this planet.
What Ephraim didn't know was that he himself had inadvertently fulfilled Mira's promise to Dume.
And returned the son to his father...
---
Ezra blinked several times as he felt himself disappearing from the dream world.
"Mommy?" he asked quietly, carefully rubbing his eyes.
To his shock he discovered that he wasn't at home.
He was outside, near a couple of rocks and a small ledge.
The boy became horrified and even pinched himself, hoping that he was still sleeping.
But the dream did not dissipate.
It was real.
The boy’s heart beat faster and tears sparkled in his sapphire eyes.
"Mommy? Daddy? Where are you?!" He shouted to the silence.
And the silence answered him only with the whistle of the wind.
But before Ezra could burst into tears, an unusual blue-violet fog appeared around the boy.
And a yellow-orange eyes lit up in it.
Ezra was about to scream but...
He didn't..
Strangely, but he didn't feel threatened.
He felt safe and warm, as if he had returned home...
The fog cleared a little and soon the outlines of large creatures appeared there - Loth-Wolves.
They looked at him carefully before making way for... the man.
He was brown-haired dressed with a light gray robe and his eyes...
Were they so familiar and...relatives?
Plucking up courage, he approached the man and quietly asked:
"W-who are you?"
The man just smiled softly before kneeling down and placing his hand on the boy's hair.
"I am Dume, but you can call me Dad, kiddo."
The boy blinked confusedly.
"But I have a dad.."
Dume shook his head slightly.
"Not certainly in that way, Ezra. He was your mother's husband, but not your father. I'm your real dad."
Ezra looked carefully into Dume's eyes and then a picture from a dream, that he sometimes saw, flashed through his head.
His mother is standing in a clearing, in front of her is a man with a beautiful robe, a bright full moon is shining above him.
And from the man... one feels paternal warmth, which he did not feel from his supposed father.
In shock, the boy felt tears appear in his eyes again.
But not from fear, but from happiness.
His real dad is back.
"It's you! You are my dad!" He screamed with joy and threw himself on Dume's neck.
Dume hugged his son tightly but tenderly and stroked his back.
"My son, how long have I been waiting for you..."
Ezra just sniffled slightly and he also wanted to ask a lot of questions.
Why was his real father missing for so long? Why didn't his mother talk about him for a long time if he remembered a dream where they both met? Or how did his dad know his name?...
But now, being in the warm arms of his father, these questions began to subside and he just allowed himself to fall into dreamland again.
Dume carefully stood up and, holding his son closer, began to walk into the fog along with the Loth-Wolves, who all the time had been silent observers of the reunion of father and son, and followed him.
And then...they disappeared.
In those days happened frightening and strange things.
Mira Bridger was killed.
Her husband and possible killer fled, leaving no trace.
Their young son Ezra is also missing.
And the next night, after the Mira’s funeral, a second small moon appeared in the sky next to the big one...
---
"So, in this way, Ezra was reunited with his father Dume and became the second moon?" The little girl asked fascinating, looking at her grandfather.
The older man nodded.
"It is. Now they are both together and happy, and maybe not always, but we can see them in the night sky, always lighting up Lothal. Although this legend cannot but be refuted or confirmed, that’s why it is a legend, so that everyone can decide for themselves whether you believe it or not."
The little girl nodded, imagining Ezra and Dume walking together across the sky among the stars, until they became two moons again.
Afterwards, her grandfather kissed her on the top of her head and wished her good night, left her room and after a short time she fell asleep.
But then she woke up from a strange light that entered her eye.
Confuced, she got out of bed and went to the window.
There, in the sky, which had been earlier covered with a dark blue-gray veil, there was now not even a single cloud.
Only the stars glowed brightly like sparks.
And also two Lothal moons.
The big moon and the small moon.
Dume and his son.
