Chapter 1: impatient dogs don't get their treat

Chapter Text

Chuuya stared at his phone, then looked up and around him to see any signs of Dazai, the one who had called him in such a hurry. He had rambled on about showing him something, without revealing what it was.

Now, Chuuya was surrounded by wheat fields, seeing an abandoned factory and few houses here and there. He wasn’t sure he was in the right coordinates, though he precisely had followed the instructions here. He was getting impatient, tapping his foot against the ground. He stood beside his red motorcycle, a remnant of the Flags.

He tried to open his phone to look at the directions again, only to find out that it had died.

“Tsk.” To his fortune, or maybe misfortune, he could see Dazai waiving his hand in the distance.

Chuuya started walking towards him, desperate for the answer as to why he had to come here.

“Be glad I found you, I almost didn’t see you because of your size.” Dazai remarked amused, making fun of him as he walked closer.

“Shut your mouth, shitty Dazai.” Chuuya hissed, as his hands turned into fists, kicking Dazai in the shin, the latter over-dramatically whining aloud.

“So, what the fuck are we doing here?” Chuuya questioned irritated.

“Come, I’ll show you.” Dazai signed him with his hand to follow him. Chuuya, begrudgingly, started walking in his footsteps.

It was dark outside, the time being around 1:45. Chuuya closed the distance between them, he had always been quick on his feet.

They reached the abandoned factory, and by Dazai’s example, Chuuya stepped into the building.

“This is it? You forced me to come here because of a fucking abandoned factory?” Chuuya was heating up. Dazai could almost see smoke coming out of his ears.

“Now, now, impatient dogs don’t get their treat.” Dazai hushed him shaking his head, his hand rubbing the back of his head.

Dazai led them to a staircase, going all the way up to the roof of the building.

Chuuya followed him in a slouchy manner. Once they reached the top, Dazai opened the rusty door, revealing... a rooftop.

“Ta-da!” Dazai opened his arms, eyes sparkling with excitement. “Hah?!” A plain, old rooftop. Nothing else.

Dazai walked on the roof, Chuuya following right behind him. Dazai looked up, gazing at the night sky painted with flickering stars and the crescent moon.

“It’s supposed to be the peak of the Perseids meteor shower tonight.” Dazai finally revealed. Chuuya stayed quiet, guiding his gaze to the sky.

After a while he opened his mouth. “I ain’t seeing anything.” He pointed out.

“It should be starting any minute. Come on now.”

He laid on his back on the concrete, face towards the sky above them. After contemplating for a minute, Chuuya accompanied him.

You could see the first meteors flying through space, leaving trail of white light behind them.

Many followed after that. Chuuya couldn’t deny that it was beautiful. His gaze occasionally drifted to Dazai. But always looked away before he could notice it.

They laid side by side on the dirty rooftop, with only a few inches between them.

Dazai could almost feel their hands brushing against each other. That is before Chuuya moved his hand to lay on his stomach.

Dazai felt slight disappointment blooming inside of him.

It's dangerous here. If you stare at the stars long enough, you start thinking you could grab one, and you get this feeling like all your dreams will come true.

“Chibi?” Chuuya sighed at the nickname.

“Yeah?”

“You ever think about dying?” Dazai suddenly asked with a hushed tone.

“Hah? We’re in the Mafia, you idiot. The thought wanders into my mind every time I’m being forced to use Corruption.” Chuuya replied. Dazai stayed dead silent for a moment.

“I’d... like to do something before I died.”

“What?”

“...Hold your hand.” Dazai almost whispered.

Chuuya turned his head to look at him. Dazai averted his gaze. Chuuya grabbed his hand. “You could’ve just asked , you know? You’re a real fool sometimes.”

They slowly intertwined their fingers. Neither of them bold enough to look each other in the eye anymore. So, they kept on watching the light show that was above them.

Chuuya was wondering what was going on in Dazai’s head at the moment.

He himself was stuck on how warm Dazai’s hand was, how his slim fingers wrapped around his own.

How his breathing was slowing down, but heart rate going up.

Remembering how Dazai’s eyes lighted up when they came here. How he was going on and on about showing him something cool.

He huffed out quietly.

Dazai’s grip on his hand tightened.

His thoughts racing each other inside his head: I don’t care if I’m loved back, I still want to love someone.

Someone, from the bottom of my heart. Straightforward, unwavering. It seems like such a simple thing, so then why must it be so incredibly hard.

I don’t know how long I’ll be surviving in this life. How I’m going to sort of the mess, that is myself.

Alone in the loneliness, suffering from it. Staring at the alarm clock without anyone by my side.

Waiting for the rise of the dawn, at the same time hating it. Closing my eyes, getting used to the nightmares.

Dazai closes his eyes. Breathing in the fresh air, lungs expanding with his inhale.

Chuuya turns to look at him again. Lightly squeezing Dazai’s hand. Dazai looks at him.

“I’ve... never been this intimate with anyone before.” He confesses. Dazai’s gaze is soft, like a warm hug on a cold winter day.

“Me neither...”

Chuuya hums in answer. He lets go and puts his head against his hand, now laying on his left side.

Dazai mimics him. They gaze at each other, trying to figure out the other’s train of thought.

Chuuya brings himself closer to Dazai, the latter one frozen in time.

Once he can feel Dazai’s breathing against his own face, he stops, waiting for the other to react in some way.

Dazai blinks once, twice. The ever so smart Demon Prodigy doesn’t seem to comprehend what's going on.

Chuuya closes their lips into a gentle kiss. Dazai still eyes wide open, trying to understand how he ended up in this situation.

But he doesn’t pull away. Instead, he closes his eyes, enjoying the fleeting moment. Their first kiss.

Chuuya is the one to break the kiss. He looks at Dazai’s stunned expression, snickering to himself.

“Was it that bad?”

“No! No, I- no...” Dazai trips on his words. “Okay...” Chuuya smiles.

“Wanna try again?” He suggests.

Dazai feels heat rising to his cheeks, now finally realizing the situation. “Yeah...”

They feel each other on their lips. Chuuya asking for permission to enter Dazai’s mouth by licking his lower lip.

He assents to it. Dazai can feel Chuuya’s tongue twirling with his own. He sighs in content. If this was what falling in love felt like, he’d never want to let go of the feeling.

Chuuya cups his cheek with his hand, Dazai’s traveling to his hair.

The former starts to move his body closer to Dazai’s, eventually falling on top of him. They don’t break away from the kiss, but instead deepen it.

Dazai can feel his chest falling and rising rapidly as he is lost in the feeling of kissing Chuuya.

He tries to calm himself down, failing miserably. He feels Chuuya smile against his lips.

Dazai wants to try something. He gently bites Chuuya’s lower lip, earning a noise between a moan and a sigh from him. He takes a mental note of that.

They’d long forgotten the meteor shower that was still going on above their heads. The boys were too busy discovering new things about each other.

Dazai breaks free from the kiss to catch his breath. He sees Chuuya panting above him. They sight is more gorgeous than any meteor shower could ever be.

“Wanna get out of here?” Chuuya asks, with a hint of excitement in his voice. Dazai nods.

He gets off of Dazai, so that they can get up and leave. He reaches out his hand for Dazai to grab on. He pulls him of the ground.

They stop to look at sky once more, then leave the abandoned factory.
