Chapter Text
The rush of crisp autumn air met your face and stands of your hair billowed along with the flow as you ascended to the observation deck, the highest point of the astronomy tower and in peaceful tranquillity that permeated all around.
You watched the mesmerising view of twilight turning to dusk, washing the castle in a hue of purple before slowly casting it in darkness.
Enough staring.
You told yourself, shaking your head to clear the blankness that had settled, and reinvigorate your mind with your original purpose.
With telescope and astronomy notes in hand, you had intended to capture and record the stars that you see for your next lesson with Professor Shah. Hardworking as you are, you had a tendency to milk every hour’s worth of free time to catch up with your fellow peers.
Though that was not all, as even before entering Hogwarts, you have always been interested in the stars, not just for mere gazing, but also for the meanings behind every constellation.
Moving to a section of the observation deck that a friend of yours had hinted at as a magnificent spot for stargazing, you proceeded to set up your telescope and begin mapping the stars.
It did not take you long to spot Aquarius, Aries and Pisces, and you quickly jotted down their exact positions and timing at which you spotted them.
Though at that moment, you heard a tiny snore.
Looking up in confusion, as you suddenly realised that you were not alone, you turned towards the source. What you had suspected to be a rucksack leaning against a telescope across from you was in fact, not a rucksack at all.
Creeping closer, you looked over the sleeping form of the individual, who was not as mysterious as you had initially expected.
It was Amit Thakkar, wrapped within a course brown blanket he had brought along to keep the cold off his frame, and from the way his notebook had been situated in his lap and how his quill was dangling from his hand, you realised that he had most likely dozed off while engaging in his favourite past time.
You let out a huff of disbelief and crouched before the other, reaching out towards the Ravenclaw and vigorously shook him awake.
Bleary eyes blinked profusely and half awake, “Y/N…? What…?”
“This is no place to be falling asleep, Amit.” You chided gently, and immediately shrugged off your robe to drape it across his shoulder, ignoring the sting of the chill permeating your frame, “Come on, up! Let’s get you back to the common room.”
His eyes fell shut once more.
“Five more minutes…”
Mildly irritated by his half-hearted response, you proceeded to lightly slap his cheek, only to pull back in shock, “Goodness, you’re practically freezing!”
Pulling out your wand, you muttered a quick incendio , allowing the flames to congregate at its tip before holding it out between you both.
“How long have you been up here?” You all but interrogated as Amit gradually grew awake, uncurling from his previous position as energy from the magical fire poured life back into him.
He hummed in thought, and for a moment you were worried that he was so engrossed in his work that he had simply forgotten, though he eventually responded “Uhh… since after dinner?”
You did not need advanced arithmancy to figure out the answer.
“That’s… that’s nearly five hours ago!” Leaping up in alarm, your wandless hand began tugging upon his arm insistently, “You are coming with me whether you like it or not.”
“Ow ow! Y/N!”
“Come on, up you get!”
“But—”
“Don't make me Levioso you the entire way.”
Begrudgingly, the Ravenclaw eventually lifted himself off the ground, knowing full well that you were capable of carrying out the light threat in a way that was certainly the most undignified.
Quickly packing all of yours and Amit’s equipment with a quick flourish of your wand, you guided him down the tower, all while keeping the flame lit between the both of you.
And it was only when the two of you reached the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower did Amit finally pull away from your grasp, “Y/N, I can manage the rest of the journey on my own.”
After eyeing him for a while longer, you sighed and extinguished the flames on your wand, “Alright, I’ll trust you on that.”
“But still, thank you for waking me up at least, else I would’ve turned into an icicle.” The Ravenclaw shot you a look of gratitude, before he shrugged off the extra layer and returned your robe to you.
“Don’t mention it.”
Though it quickly morphed into a cheeky grin, “Even if you do sound like my mother, just as pushy too..”
You gaped in indignation, “I do not!”
And much to your dismay, he only snickered harder while adding, “And very naggy.”
“Make fun of me, why don’t you?” You crossed your arms sternly, while narrowing your eyes in warning, “Next time you decide to doze off in the most unexpected places, I’m leaving you there.”
“Come on, I was only joking. Surely you won’t… right?”
Wordlessly, you walked away.
“…right?”
