Work Text:

"'Haitham...wake up..."

Alhaitham wakes up, eyes bleary, to the lights on and a shadowy figure shaking him.

"Wh?" As he blinks sleep from his eyes he sees it's Kaveh shaking him, holding his stomach. It takes a few more seconds for Alhaitham to realize this may be serious.

He sits up fully, trying to remove his headphones with haste, "Is something wrong?"

"Hey, hey, calm, calm down-" Kaveh runs his hands down Alhaitham's arms, trying to ease his panic.

"Why did you wake me? Are you okay?"

"It's okay-"

"Are you okay? It's not a hard question-"

Kaveh nods, "I'm okay, I'm okay, I promise," he presses their foreheads together carefully, "I didn't mean to scare you, I'm sorry."

Alhaitham closes his eyes for a moment, trying to calm his heart, "Why did you wake me up? You did have a reason, right?"

"Hold on..."

It's quiet and calm between the two of them for a few moments, and then Kaveh grabs Alhaitham's hand, leading it to the baby bump.

Alhaitham leaves his hand where it was placed, and his eyes open in surprise when he feels it.

"The baby's kicking," Kaveh laughs quietly.

"It is..." Alhaitham moves his hand over the bump, feeling little flutters the whole way.

The two stay like that for a long while, until Alhaitham slumps back into bed.

"It's morning!" Kaveh whines.

"I'm tired and you should be resting more," Alhaitham argues.

"Don't you have work?"

"Hush, come lay with me."

Kaveh grumbles halfheartedly, but lays back down, getting dragged backwards into Alhaitham's chest almost immediately, "Seriously?"

"Yeah."

Cyno lays in Kaveh's lap, the architect playing with platinum hair while they talk.

"-and I told her we couldn't put a window there for structural reasons and she got mad at me," Kaveh complains about the client he just finished with.

"That much should have been clear from the beginning," Cyno nods.

"That's absolutely what I thought but-...I hate you sometimes..."

Kaveh looks absolutely unamused. Not as unamused as the baby, they both realize, as Cyno gets kicked in the face. Kaveh laughs while Cyno feels completely betrayed.

"My own child..."

"We told you," Kaveh teases.

Cyno puts his hand on the baby bump and huffs, "And I trusted you..."

More tiny fluttering against his hand.

"Treachery and you're not even here yet."

"You kicked for Alhaitham and Cyno, why can't you kick for 'Nari?" Kaveh holds his stomach with a frown, hands over Tighnari's.

"You can't force them, Kaveh, it's okay," Tighnari assures.

"I just...I swear, when you're not here I'm practically treated like a football...but when I want you to feel? Nothing."

Tighnari presses a kiss to the bump, then moves to kiss Kaveh on the lips, "It's fine, we just have a little rebel on the way who doesn't want to listen to their fathers," he jokes.

"Is that it? You just don't want to listen to your fathers?"

Tighnari moves from kneeling in front of Kaveh to sitting with him, giving him another peck on the lips, "I'll feel it eventually, or I won't, who knows, either way it's fine."

"I was just excited to show you..."

"I know," Tighnari leans on Kaveh's shoulder, "but right now the baby's not, and that's who's in charge."

Tighnari rests his hand on Kaveh's belly, closing his eyes.

Kaveh leans his head against Tighnari's, closing his eyes, too, and threading their fingers together, "I can't believe the baby isn't even here yet and that's who's in charge."

Tighnari laughs, snuggling closer, "It's only going to get worse, too."

"Hush-"

It's quiet for a long while, just the two of them, and Tighnari's practically asleep when it happens.

"Sorry I'm late, I took a detour for groceries," Alhaitham calls as he enters with some bags, startling the two awake...

And the baby.

Tighnari wakes up completely when he feels the light kicking against his hand.

"You won't kick all day but you hear Alhaitham and you're going crazy?"

"Did I do something wrong?"

"You just woke the baby up."

"I'm sorry?"

"It's fine," Kaveh waves the apology off, "I've been trying to get the baby to kick all day."

"...You're welcome."
