Black and White

Summary:

They honestly didn't feel it necessary to have a grand ceremony just to prove to the world they adore each other. So, they decide on a small ceremony. Less stress that way.

But even the small weddings require preparation, planning, and a checklist.

-

Steve and Tony, from the proposal up until their wedding night.

Chapter Text

This meeting definitely could’ve been an email. There was no reason to drag this many people together to discuss absolute nonsense.

You would think if you were going to have a meeting and presentation for the Avengers and over a dozen SHIELD agents you would have someone host that wouldn’t keep going off on unimportant tangents about topics that aren’t related to the subject.

Oh well, they were already here, might as well make it through the damn thing.

Steve had zoned out from the meeting about three side stories ago, one of which involved some tangent about a pop culture reference he did understand but couldn't care less about.

He turns his focus to one of the sheets of blank paper in front of him. He fidgets with a corner of the paper and debates what he wants to do with this blank canvas.

He could pretend to take notes of the lecture, as the paper was intended, and instead doodle with the provided gel pen. However, he's got nothing. No idea of what to decorate the paper with. Great.

He instead begins to fold the sticky note that had been stuck to the top of his papers. A new hobby of his had been origami. Natasha had jokingly gotten him a book with different patterns in it, she said it was for her favorite old man, but Steve had grown to love it.

The distraction of strategic paper folding only lasted for about eight minutes. Bummer, he was hoping it would have kept him entertained for a little longer.

He nudges Tony’s leg with his foot to show off his creation. At this meeting, and just about every other meeting and table in general, Tony always made sure to save Steve a seat next to him. There was no one else they would rather sit next to.

Steve could tell based on his body language that Tony was just as bored as he was, so he figured he might as well momentarily distract him from wherever his mind had wandered.

Tony glances over at Steve who smirks and hands him his origami paper ring underneath the table.

Tony smiles and huffs out an amused breath. This man never failed to amaze him. Tony had lost count of how many origami stars Steve had made for him out of paper straw wrappers whenever they would go to dinner. And he kept every one of them simply because he loves his partner endlessly.

“Wow,” Tony mouths as he looks over the ring.

Steve slides a sheet of paper between him and Tony and begins to write something. “It’s yours,” Steve smirks as Tony looks over the note.

Tony smiles and grabs the pen. “You’re cute, you know that?” he writes back.

Steve rolls his eyes and writes his response. “Put it on, lover boy.

Tony doesn’t question it and does as he’s told. He slides the ring over his left ring finger.

Interesting choice.

Thanks,” Tony pauses, pen still in hand, and raises a brow. “Wait, what does that mean? Is this wrong?

No. Well, that’s up for debate. Theres a specific ring for that finger and I always assumed you’d prefer a more shiny one.

Tony snorts when it finally clicks. “Oh. Well, I do have expensive taste, but I think this is all it would take for me to marry you, Rogers,” he whispers.

Then why don’t you?
