Promise

Summary:

When the boys' current case takes an unexpected twist and Jin ends up in danger, it's up to them to get him back safe and sound

Notes:

Haven't posted in like 3 months but I'm alive 🤣
I've been so busy with work, I don't have the time or the capacity to write 🥲

This has been on my mind for a while
I think I'll keep the chapters short, and I'll post again as soon as I can

Stay safe 🤗 and take care of yourselves!

English is not my mother language and even though I consider myself decently fluent, I probably have made mistakes, so please forgive me about that

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"We lost them", Jungkook panted when they regrouped.

"How do they keep slipping away? We've been on their tail for a week", Hoseok huffed.

"At least, this time, I managed to hit one of them", Taehyung patted his gun.

"Your bullet hit home? From that  distance?", Namjoon admired. Taehyung nodded. "Where did you hit him?"

"Somewhere here", Taehyung hovered his hand over his left side. "Hard to tell from afar, but judging from the fact he didn't instantly drop, I missed his heart and any artery"

"Good job, anyway", Yoongi praised. "They couldn't have gotten far. Let's comb the area". The others nodded and split into 3 duos searching a few blocks around, before coming up empty and deciding to make their way back to the station.

"Good morning", Jin peeked through the door of their office.

"Morning, hyung", the six boys replied back, raising their heads.

"Uh oh, tough night?", Jin noticed their tired faces after probably another all-nighter.

"You could say that, hyung", Jungkook began cracking his own neck before twisting in his chair to crack his back.

"We have been after a group of three criminals, responsible for armed robberies, with mutliple victims with minor and serious injuries, even some casualties, for a week", Yoongi spoke.

"We even stopped by hospitals and clinics with their pictures, since Taehyung managed to land a bullet on one of them yesterday, but no luck", Jimin piped up.

"They're probably trying to avoid getting caught", Jin voiced. "Even willing to sacrifice one of their own by not bringing them in". The youngers sighed. "Anyway, I better leave you to it"

"See you later, hyung", the boys smiled, Jin reciprocating and exiting the office.

"Why do I have a bad feeling...", Jin mumbled to himself.

"Help! I need a doctor!", a female voice was heard. Jin looked around, the parking lot seemed empty. He broke into a jog as he searched, making a right turn to a more secluded area and stopping in front of a van. No woman in sight . Instead, there was a man standing in front of the side door, looking straight at him.

"You a doctor?", the guy asked. Jin nodded and briefly took out his hospital ID.

"Where's the woman?", Jin voiced. The guy didn't respond, but he turned and opened the side door of the van.

"Help him ", the guy said. Jin inched closer, seeing a man laying on his back, a blood stain the size of a basketball covering his left upper body. "Get in"

"He needs a hospital", Jin rebutted. The guy took out a gun and discretly brought it to Jin's midsection. Jin slowly raised his hands, lowering his gaze at the gun.

"No hospital, you  treat him", the man shook his head. "Get in", he repeated. "I won't ask a third time"

"Okay", Jin agreed and climbed in, his heart thumping in his chest and temples but he ignored it, knowing what he was doing was nuts . The guy followed him inside and closed the door, before a third guy behind the wheel, who Jin hadn't noticed until then, turned the engine on and stepped on the gas. "Are you okay?", he gently patted the other guy on his shoulders.

"Does he look okay to you?!", the guy yelled.

"It's the way to determine if he's conscious, I'm following protocol", Jin looked at him. "I know  he's not okay, he's bleeding"

"I'm awake", the injured guy managed. "Keep it down, will you?", he glared at his friend.

"That's good, stay with us", Jin checked his pulse. "Strong pulse", he mumbled, trying to find the source of the bleeding which turned out to be a bullet, and said bullet was still in. Three guys, one with a gunshot wound... Jin connected the dots. Great , he thought. "I don't have what I need to treat him. Since you want to go against medical advice, if you want him to live, I need a pharmacy stop"

"Fine, but don't you think of trying anything funny", the guy agreed, still pointing at him with his gun. "Search for a pharmacy", he told the other guy behind the wheel, the latter nodding to show he heard. "I'll be watching you ". Jin removed his jacket and used it to apply pressure on the guy's wound.

"I have another request", Jin continued. The guy raised an eyebrow. "Let me contact my brothers and throw them off. They'll know something is up since I didn't show up for my shift"

"You're not serious", the man almost laughed, leaning forward and holding the tip of the gun directly against Jin's lower back.

"I am  serious", Jin countered. "They're cops. You don't want them on your tail, do you?". They already are though , Jin thought to himself. The guy's expression changed.

"One call, on speaker. Careful what you say", the guy warned. Jin nodded.

"Lieutenant Min", Yoongi picked up the desk phone that was ringing. "Thank you, Officer Kang", he put the phone down.

"Still no hospitals?", Hoseok assumed. Yoongi shook his head.

"That's weird", Namjoon was staring at his phone.

"What  is?", Yoongi asked.

"Soojin noona just texted me, asking if Jin hyung is okay because he's late for shift and he's not responding", Namjoon replied.

"Jin hyung is late ?", Jungkook repeated in disbelief. "And  not replying?"

"He's calling me right now", Taehyung voiced and accepted the call, putting Jin on speaker. "Jin hyung, are you okay? You're late. What happened?"

"I'm fine, don't worry", Jin tried to act normal, trying to come up with a lie. "I know I'm late for work, it happens to everyone, even me  sometimes. I'll get to the hospital as fast as I can. Listen, I'm gonna drop by the store, do you need anything?"

"The store? At this hour, hyung?", Namjoon asked. It was almost 8am, Jin never  made grocery shopping trips that early

"Yeah, I noticed I don't have enough for tonight's dinner, so I figured I could drop by before work. Thinking of making garlic bread, put some cilantro in, too", Jin was heard. The 2 younger Kims froze. "Are you boys okay with that?"

"Sounds good, hyung", Taehyung's voice was surprisingly calm.

"Alright, then", Jin said before hanging up.

"What is it?", Hoseok asked. "We have established that something is wrong"

"Hyung is being held in some way", Namjoon spoke.

"What, hostage? How can you tell, hyung?", Jimin wondered.

"One, he's late for work. Even though we saw him earlier, almost 30 minutes before his shift, and we know he's never late for anything", Namjoon held one index finger up. "Two, he hasn't responded to Soojin noona's attempts to contact him"

"He's not answering my call now, even though he just called Taehyung", Yoongi moved his phone away from his ear.

"Three, his trip to the grocery store this early in the morning", Namjoon continued. "And four, garlic and cilantro"

"What about them?", Jungkook frowned.

"Hyung hates cilantro", Taehyung said. "And he's allergic to garlic".
