Chapter Text
It started with a sunflower tucked gently under the windshield wiper of his car, a blood red card envelope baring his name in gold right next to it, he found first thing in the morning as he left home for school.
Steve felt heat in his ears as he carefully pulled them both free and cradled the flower in his hand, a shy smile tugging at his chapped (from nervously biting them) lips. He quickly got into his car, dumping everything into the passenger seat so he could focus on the gifts, already know who they're from based on the "Stevie" on the envelope.
He gently ran his fingers over bright yellow petals, giggling at the delicate feel of them, before turning towards the envelope and eagerly opening it. He let out another giggle at the card, heart warming in love for his dorky boyfriend as he looks at the cartoony vampire proclaiming "I'm a sucker for you, valentine!"
"Idiot." He murmured fondly, gently pressing the hand with the flower to his belly as if he could tame the crazy butterflies in there with it. He flicked the card open and felt his face warning as he started reading Eddie's neat handwriting.
"I tried to find a sunflower just a pretty, just as perfect, as you but this one was the closest I could get to that. So I hope it'll do, Sweetheart. You're like a sunflower, you know? Sturdy and bright, a tiny ball of sunshine that can brightened even the darkest of rooms or people.
You're my personal sun, baby boy, I adore you so much.
I love you so, so much.
Eddie 🖤❤️"
Steve laughed and covered his face with the card, leaning forward to press his face into his steering wheel as he waited for the heat in his face to calm down. "You little shit." He murmured, a giddy little smile still on his face as he sat up and started up his car, eager to get to school and see his boyfriend.
Steve's head was in the cloud as he went through the motions of picking up Robin and his half of their (his and Eddie's) gremlins. He didn't even mind the teasing over Eddie's card and flower, he was too happy about them and seeing Eddie to care.
He barely parked in his usually spot before he heard Eddie pull up next to him, both from the music and the rumbling of his truck. He waved Robin, Chrissy (who jumped out of Eddie's truck with a way too bright "Mornin Steve!") and the freshmen off, flipping his best friend off when she made a face meant to tease him about wanting time to make out before school. Just because she's too chicken shit to say something to Chrissy...
He was pulled away from watching the girls and the kids by two surprisingly strong arms wrapping around his waist from behind to pull him against a firm chest. "Morning Sweetheart." Eddie said into his ear, pressing a kiss first onto shoulder then to his cheek. "Sleep well?"
"As best as I could without you there to hold me." Steve said, turning to give Eddie the full form of his pouty face and wrap his arms around Eddie's shoulders. "Tell Gareth he's on my shit list for running band practice so late."
"I think he already knows, baby boy." Eddie laughed, smiling down at him and pressing a kiss to his forehead before his lips. "I'll make it up to you."
"Mmm, you already have. I love my card and flower." Steve said, that shy pleased smile spreading on his face along with another blush. "But you're kind of early for Valentine's day, teddie, it's a week away."
"Oh I am well aware, today is just day one of seven days of Valentine's day gifts for my sweetheart." Eddie said, grinning down at Steve and holding him closer to cover that sweet blush in adoring kisses. "Only the best for my sweet boy."
"Seven days? Eddie you don't ha-" "I know but I want to! You do so much, give so much, to everyone in the party and your little found family. I was gonna do something big but then when I found out no one has spoiled you like you deserved? I knew I needed to go all out for you, baby. So seven days of gifts and telling you how much I love you." Eddie said, cupping Steve's cheeks and pulling him into a soft kiss. "Let me love you like you deserve, yea?"
"Okay.." Steve sighed, leaning into Eddie as he physically melted into the kiss that quickly turn into Eddie pinning him against his truck and lazily making out. All too soon, the warning bell had them pulling apart to lightly pant into the other’s mouth and stare into each other's eyes. "Put me down, Teddie, we gotta go."
"Oh...oh sorry." Eddie said, pink spreading high on his cheeks as he let go of Steve's thighs to drop him back to the group, not even realizing he had picked his boyfriend up. "Come on, Sweetheart. Let's get our torture over with." He sighed. He let a soft smile spread over his face as he reached behind Steve and plucked the flower up from Steve's backpack. He quickly trimmed the stem and tucked it behind Steve's ear, "There, now we can go." He grinned, taking Steve's hand and lacing their fingers before tugging Steve towards the school building.
Steve laughed as he tried to keep up with his boyfriend's longer legs, a blush permanent on his face and a smile spreading.
Seven days of gifts, huh? He can't wait.
