Work Text:

Pepper stood in front of the elevator waiting for it stop on hers and Tony's floor. Steve hadn't arrived yet and Bruce had been living with them since right after the Battle of New York. That had just left Natasha and the archer which she'd been told was called Hawkeye or Barton. Pepper smiled when Natasha stepped off the elevator first and held her arms out to her.

"It's good to see you, Pepper," Natasha said. "Doc."

"Nat," Bruce said.

"You must be Hawkeye," Pepper said.

"Clint," Hawkeye said as he played with his wedding ring which hung from a chain around his neck along with Phil's.

"Clint, you okay?" Natasha asked.

Clint shook his head, his hands shaking.

"You look peeked, Legolas," Tony said.

"I don't know if I can do this," Clint said.

"Sure you can," Tony said. "You and Red have a whole floor to yourselves. Noticing that Clint was worrying a wedding ring, Tony was stunned. "Okay, I'm obviously missing something."

"I need to go home," Clint said.

"You are in no condition to fly yourself to Iowa," Natasha said.

"I want to sleep in our bed," Clint said.

"No you don't," Natasha said, "and Coulson wouldn't want you there alone. Let's go see our floor. Tony and Pepper have done a lot of work to put a roof over our heads."

"I'm sorry, Ms. Potts," Clint said. "I didn't mean to sound ungrateful. Phil was such a gentleman and he'd be horrified at my manners or lack there of."

"I thought there was a cellist," Tony said.

"There is an archer," Clint said. "Is that going to be a problem?"

"I told you," Natasha said. "He could care less what your orientation is."

"Did Phil think I'd care?" Tony asked. "Is that why he told me there was a cellist."

"He told you I was a cellist, because he thought it was funny," Clint said, chuckling. "He'd have thought it was hysterical that you call me Legolas. He used to read Tolkien to me when he was first teaching me to read."

"Why didn't he tell us when he let himself into the tower?" Clint asked.

"I think he did," Pepper said. "I told you he seemed shaken."

"It didn't occur to me to think that he was married to Loki's kidnapped agent," Tony said. "Isn't that something you should have mentioned Natalie?"

"It wasn't my place," Natasha said, ignoring Tony's use of her legend.

"Sir, Captain Rogers is coming-up," Jarvis said.

"Who's going to explain this to Cap?" Tony asked.

"Maybe we don't," Clint said.

"Don't you dare," Natasha said.

"Did I walk into something?" Steve asked.

"I don't suppose the Doc has any idea how to explain to a nearly 100-year-old man that I was married to Phil," Clint said.

"I think you just did," Bruce said.

"Men can marry men now? " Steve asked.

"Not in every state," Clint said. "We got married in Massachusetts. They were ahead of he game."

"I wish he'd told us that it was his husband that had been taken," Steve said.

"He wouldn't take advantage like that," Clint said.

"I wish he had," Tony said.
