Work Header

the high elder is desperate

Summary:

Dan Heng did not want to lose Blade.

Work Text:

The Vidyadhara had a legend - if you bring one who had lost their memories to the Lunarescent Depths, and have them drink of the natal waters fed by their love, they would for that moment, recall the one they have loved the most.

But would it work?

Yet /he/ drank the water willingly as well, the moisture still wet on his mouth. There was a groan, a low sound like the tearing of bones and tendons, and Dan Heng stared.

They both drank the water at the same time.

The man shook his head, and looked straight.

"You remember?"

"You look different."

"I know you."

They fell silent, only that the loud roar of waves behind them sounded in roils and crashes.

"Is that all that you can say?" He felt bitter. There was a heaviness in his heart that he could not will away.

Suddenly he looked at the youth - he looked older, and those horns on his head reminded him of someone from a long, long time ago.

"Ah, what should I call myself."

"Whatever you want." Dan Heng looked up. He paused, a flicker of astonishment across his face, "Your eyes."

"Who am I now?"

Dan Heng bit his lip. Something made him move closer, an urge; he wanted to touch the man standing in front of him. He opened his mouth: "██."

The man turned at the sound of the name. His hand reached out.

"Louder," The man urged, and the old teasing was back, the fingers that slid up his chest, his neck, and gently swiping a thumb across his lips, "Call my name again."

He did as the man ordered. Something roared in his head like a dragon's painful lament. Dan Heng shuddered. His senses felt as if they were splitting apart, his heart so tight that it might tear any moment.

The man's hair was dark, not silver, not white but his eyes shone like the moon, and no longer dripped with blood. Dan Heng clawed at the man's clothes. Something within him fought to come forth, like a shadow tearing away from its path, reaching for the man in front of them.

/How I missed you/ - the dragon cried.

"I have missed you too." The man replied.

The hands that embraced his body were no longer the same, but the lips that kissed his were just like how the dragon remembered, nine hundred years ago.
