Work Text:
An alarm blared loudly in Izuku’s ear, immediately forcing him out of his warm, comfortable sleep. He groaned, loudly, covering his ears. He couldn’t shut the noise off because it was coming from Katsuki’s nightstand on the other side of the bed. He thought that wasn’t fair, but Katsuki had moved the alarm clock to his side knowing that Izuku would just shut it off and never get up.
Or smash it. They went through 7 of them before Katsuki had enough.
Katsuki turned the alarm off, taking his sweet time, at least according to Izuku, and sat up. He rubbed his eyes and looked back at his husband's green hair peeking out from under his pillow.
“Get up.” He grumbled, placing a hand on Izuku’s shoulder. “I know you heard the fucking alarm, don’t do this shit.”
Izuku groaned into his pillow and tried to hide himself deeper inside.
Katsuki had no time for this, like he did every morning, and immediately took to shaking him until he gave in.
“Kacchan, stop!” Izuku whined, trying to push him away but to no avail. He was just too tired for this. Izuku wasn’t giving in that easy.
Katsuki realized that his attempts were futile, and he wasn't going to sit there and beg, so he picked Izuku up and carried him into their bathroom.
“Put me down!” Izuku yelped, flailing a bit in his attempt to get down.
Katsuki set him down on his feet. “Stop wiggling around!” He said, holding Izuku up as he found his balance. “You’re always complaining that you have to rush, and now you’re mad at me for waking you up.” He rolled his eyes.
“You can’t just give me a few more minutes?” Izuku frowned, still half asleep. (Although, what happened had woken him up quite a bit.)
“You say that every day, and every day it’s not just a few minutes. Just get ready so we can go, we’re already running behind.”
Izuku couldn’t deny anything Katsuki said, so he only sighed and grabbed his toothbrush. Katsuki did the same. They brushed their teeth in silence, and Izuku noticed how tired Katsuki also looked. He would never be late for work, but Izuku knew Kacchan liked to sleep in, too.
When they were done in the bathroom—Katsuki was first, as usual—they went to change. Katsuki was already dressed and heading toward the kitchen to make them breakfast before he stopped short at the door.
“What are you wearing?!”
“My clothes,” Izuku replied without a glance.
Katsuki frowned. “You can’t wear those ugly sweatpants to work.”
“Why not?” Izuku asked, turning to his husband. “We’re just going to be changing into our hero costumes when we get there.”
“Yeah, you still have to dress like a normal person.” Katsuki crossed his arms.
“You’ve worn sweatpants to the agency before!”
“Yeah, when we went for a run before our shift.” Katsuki frowned.
“But I’m tired and it’s so comfy,” Izuku whined, not able to come up with any more excuses.
“Change. Then come out and eat, you idiot,” Katsuki stated before walking out of the room, leaving a groaning Izuku standing by the closet.
Once in the kitchen, Katsuki started coffee on their machine—just the perfect amount for two mugs. He then set some bread in the toaster and started scrambling some eggs, making sure to add cheese to half, as Izuku liked.
Izuku eventually came out of their bedroom, much grumpier and groggier than usual, but immediately perked up at the food. Katsuki knew his husband too well.
They sat down at the table together to eat, something Katsuki always set their alarms early for, so that they wouldn’t miss it. He didn’t want to have to rush to work and eat on the way; Katsuki adored this time together so that he could stare at his sleepy husband from across the table and hold his hand tight.
He put the eggs and toast on two plates and grabbed his husband’s hand as he sat down, making sure to use his right one so that Izuku could eat with his own right hand on the other side of the table. Their coffee was ready right then and Katsiuki let go of his hand for only a second as he poured it into their mugs—each one branded for the other. Izuku just adored his Hero Dynamight mug, and refused to drink in the morning without it—and Katsuki was sure to grab his hand again when he was done.
Izuku couldn’t be mad for long about his harsh awakening that morning when Kacchan looked at him like that. Izuku smiled back, too weak-willed against his husband to stand his ground. Even if Kacchan was doing it purposefully to get back on his good side.
Katsuki knew his husband would give in, making sure to be on his best behavior and to squeeze his hand every so often.
They rushed to finish the rest of their breakfast through stolen glances up at each other. Katsuki would accidentally stare at Izuku’s messy hair, annoyed that it wouldn’t comply even after Izuku brushed it. But more realistically, he just couldn’t keep his eyes away when Izuku looked like that.
And Izuku just always stared at Katsuki. That was nothing new. He had been doing it since pre-school and had gotten in the habit of looking away once Katsuki looked up, but he still noticed every time.
He normally said something about Izuku’s staring problem, but today he opted not to. Izuku’s embarrassment was cute, but he just let him sit in his happiness and smile stupidly up at him every so often.
But Katsuki did something else abnormal that day too; he smirked back at Izuku’s smile when their eyes met. Normally he just sat and basked in the warmth of his husband’s gaze. Today he felt the need to return it.
Izuku blushed, mumbling something to himself, which he often did in the mornings when he was still half asleep and couldn’t properly think to keep himself quiet. Normally it was about their hero work for the day, but since this time it was about him, Katsuki was curious.
“What, nerd?”
Izuku’s eyes widened as they shifted from Katsuki’s lips back to his eyes. “Huh?”
“I couldn’t hear you,” Katsuki quipped, watching as his husband turned into a flustered mess and sputtered at being put on the spot for something he didn’t actually mean to say. And that Katsuki definitely wasn’t supposed to hear.
“It’s just, uh, you have a cute smile.” Izuku looked away bashfully after stuttering out.
Katsuki’s smile returned tenfold. “You’re such a nerd, y’know that?”
He then stood up, grabbed their plates, and placed them in the sink before returning behind his husband’s chair. He bent at the waist so he could wrap his arms around Izuku’s shoulders from behind and spoke directly into his ear. “We’ve been married for almost a year now, Izuku, you can tell me you think I'm cute without turning into a tomato.”
“Doesn’t matter how long it’s been,” Izuku said, “you're still Kacchan. When it's you, I can't help it. That’ll never change, no matter how much time has passed.”
Katsuki planted a kiss on his cheek, and when Izuku turned to look at him, he gave him a real one.
Suddenly, they were interrupted by Katsuki’s phone alarm signaling it was time to head to their agency.
They broke apart and Katsuki shut it off, turning and planting another small smooch on Izuku’s lips before helping him out of his chair.
“C’mon, we’re gonna be late,” Katsuki said, and this time Izuku got up with no complaints.
