Izuku sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes, turning to look at the clock on his bedside table. It was almost midnight.
Izuku sighed, then fell back down onto the bed with a huff. He felt his husband shift beside him and turned to see Kacchan’s reaction. He had shifted his head to glare at Izuku.
“Stop moving around,” he snapped. Then, in a much softer voice, he asked, “You can’t sleep?”
Izuku nodded and angrily shoved his pillow over his face.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, his show of sympathy over. “Just stop rolling around and you’ll fall asleep eventually,” he said, turning onto his side away from Izuku.
Izuku tried to do just that. He lay still for a while before realizing that his efforts were fruitless, and he could no longer take it. He continued to toss and turn yet again and groaned. He just felt so uncomfortable, and hot, and ignored that the latter was probably due to the fact that he was moving around so much.
Katsuki rolled his eyes again, knowing Izuku couldn’t see it anyway.
“Shut up!”
“No,” Izuku whined, “I feel like I’m gonna die.”
“You're fine,” Katsuki stated with finality, pulling the covers over him.
Izuku fiddled with the sheets, but they just didn’t feel how he wanted them to. He stopped moving for a short moment, his arms tired, before he sighed and got back to work on setting them how he liked.
And that was Katsuki’s last straw.
“Oh my god.” Katsuki shot out of bed and flung his covers right on top of Izuku. His feet landed on the carpet with heavy stomps as he walked out of the room. Izuku pushed the covers off himself and watched the door in confusion as he saw the hallway light flick on.
He was curious, yes, but after 5 minutes with no sign of Katsuki, Izuku went back to his fidgeting. He would have been worried Katsuki was leaving to sleep on the couch, but his husband would never have left the light on if he was doing that.
After a few more minutes, which felt like hours to Izuku, Katsuki clicked off the light in the hall and came back to bed, but this time, with something in his hand.
Katsuki set it down on the nightstand as he sat and manhandled Izuku into an upright position. He flattened out the messy covers, and Izuku wondered how he was able to make them so perfect.
He pulled Izuku into him so he was leaning onto his chest. Then, he grabbed a mug back off his nightstand.
It was a cup of warm milk.
Katsuki handed him the mug and forced him to drink. Then, much to Izuku’s surprise, he began rubbing his back in soothing circles.
“That good enough for ya’?”
Izuku nodded.
He thoroughly enjoyed his pampering and made sure to take his time slurping on the hot drink. It was almost burning his tongue, but it was just barely at the threshold where he could drink it safely. Just how he liked it. Katsuki must have cooled it down for him.
Even in his uncomfortableness, Izuku managed to flash a smile at his husband. Kacchan really was so thoughtful.
“Are you done?” Katsuki asked after a moment.
“Yes,” Izuku smiled, handing the cup back. Katsuki stood up to put it back in the kitchen, and Izuku hated the cool air that brushed over his skin in his husband’s absence. He came back quickly, and Izuku buried his head in Kacchan's neck as fast as possible when he returned.
Katsuki sighed. “Come on, you needy nerd.”
Izuku glanced up at his husband with a look as if to ask what he meant. He was immediately answered. Katsuki laid back down, fluffed the blankets, and pulled Izuku on top of him with his head on his chest.
Kacchan continued rubbing his back, as he did before, and Izuku smiled.
Katsuki grumbled yet again. “Just go to sleep already. I can’t deal with any more wiggling around.”
“Sorry Kacchan,” Izuku blushed, nuzzling his head into Kacchan’s shoulder as he started to feel the effect of the warm milk. He had been bothersome before, and Izuku suddenly felt bad.
“It’s fine, you idiot,” Katsuki said with another eye roll. “I’m used to your annoying habits by now.”
Izuku blushed at the fact that Kacchan knew him so well; yes, they were married, and yes, they had known each other their whole lives, but Izuku always felt giddy when he realized that Kacchan put as much attention and care into him as he did into Kacchan. He didn’t think that was possible, not with how much Izuku studied his husband. But Kacchan still amazed him every day.
“Goodnight, Izuku.”
Izuku felt his body warm up at that. “Goodnight, Kacchan,” he whispered into his neck.
His husband complained a lot, but Izuku saw the smile that graced his lips when he was holding him and knew that deep down, he really cared. And those perfect thoughts were enough to allow Izuku to doze off just a few moments later.
