Work Text:

Morgan Sweeney held the wet rag to Karlach's head, "You'll be okay love, I'm right here."

Karlach's engine was getting worse, and here they were stuck in these cursed lands, the hunt for a cure was looking bleak, as the fiery tiefling cried out in pain. It had been like this the past two nights, Dammon had fixed Karlach to the best of his abilities, but time was running out.

Morgan's hand shook, her eyes bloodshot and watering once again, the tears wouldn't come, as if her poor eyes had no more left to give. Morgan knew what must be done, she knew that her love had to either return to Avernus, or perish. "Karlach, please listen to reason, you're dying, and unless you go back, I..." the words don't come, instead Karlach holds a finger up to Morgan's cold lips. "I'm never going back, I can't leave you, you are all I have in this world, the one person who showed me compassion, the one person who finally let me feel alive again."

Morgan collapsed onto her lover's side, holding her head tightly to her chest. "I won't let you die love, if I have to burn in hell with you, godsdamnit I'll fucking burn!" Karlach's weak eyes looked into Morgan, her determination plain to see. That was her finest quality Karlach always thought, was Morgan's ruthless determination, she wouldn't rest while someone she loved suffered.

"Love, you will not suffer alone, you will not die alone, as long as I am by your side, you will live. So get up and be the Karlach I know you are, Baldur's Gate is bound to hold your cure and if it doesn't then I will march down to Avernus myself and blast that bitch Zariel right in her stupid fucking face!" An aura appeared around Morgan, this had happened rarely, in some of their more serious battles, she had assured Karlach it was merely a gift from her eldritch patron, her mysterious King in Yellow, that had given Morgan so much of her power. Karlach still wondered however, as the eerie yellow aura lifed Morgan's hair slightly, and her black eldritch eye glowed a solid dark yellow, whether Morgan wasn't a little bit more than human herself. She should laugh at Morgan's threat to Zariel, a mortal kill an Archdevil? Morgan seemed like no joke however and even Karlach felt a bit stronger in the prescence of her lover.

"I'm glowing again aren't I?" Morgan asked, seeing her robes blowing slightly, "Fuck yeah, Zariel might want to reconsider fucking with me when I have a fucking Demigod by my side."

Morgan went back to normal, her cheeks flushed, "It was just my patron love, don't be silly. Wait, you seem like you're feeling better?" It was true, the pair never knew if it was simply Morgan's bedside manner, her threats to Zariel, or something otherworldly, that improved Karlach, but one thing was for sure, as the couple locked lips in these shadow curse lands. It was that Morgan had bought more time, time that was still desperately ticking away for the two tragic lovers.
