Work Text:
Since the moment Hilda came to Oga’s life, he paid more attention to something other than himself.
A maid nurse, with one particular braid that always accompanies her emo black dress that she wears at all times. A blonde girl, who would kill without hesitation using her glamor X blade in an umbrella disguised.
An actual demon raised from hell.
But she’s also-
- Beel’s mom.
Who made sure he will be fed, cuddled enough every single day. Who made sure that the baby was fully loved by her affection and warmth.
The woman, who he thought was from hell, was full of kindest and soft smiles. Motherly warmth and number one wife material in the entire human world.
Although, at first, Beel was the only subject of her affection.
Until he realized, Hilda had her way to show her affection towards others. Hilda showed her love by sharing telenovela obsession with Oga’s mom. She never complains or even mock her mother's obsession over that top cringe entertainment. Hilda also respected Misaki, despite her short temper and bossy behavior. Yet she obliges like any little sister should, and beneath all that Hilda looks up to Misaki a lot. Every morning Hilda and Oga's father spend time drinking tea and reading in silence. His sister and Oga are never the type to sit still and enjoy the calmness but Hilda indulges her routine to be with Oga's father like a dutiful daughter in law.
Those were her ways to show her kindness to his family. Her family.
Lately he realized how Hilda tried so hard to cook for him. Although the food ends up being the number one murder weapon with 100% direct result. But Hilda tried to make his favorite food; crochet . Out of everything, she chose to make his food. Which was kind, even kinder than anyone ever than to him.
It dawn to him-
-despite the fact Hilda came from hell; a place where notorious sinners spend their afterlife to repent what they sow, yet here she is.
She's a mouthful, grumpy, doubtful, and egoist, added with a fist and slice of blade like no other.
And her kindness-
-proceed to exceed Oga's understanding about how a hell creature should act. Hilda's even kinder than any human being he ever encountered (-well, he did attract the worst of the worst, as he is one of them).
Hilda is an epitome of greatness to him. A humble, grumpy, perfect mother to Beel. To which also made her the perfect wife in the entire existence (- that’s what his family impression was) . The way Hilda reciprocated his family's slight affection to her with such a greatness for a demon like her made Oga wonder what part of her that made her like that? Or is that just the way she was?
Either way, Hilda's presence made Oga find pieces of his humanity that he lost within her.

It is ridiculous when people start to refer to Hilda as his wife.
He tried so many times to tell the truth, Hilda is a demon maid assigned to care for baby Beel, but not even one person accepts the truth (-it is his fault for being an actual demon for people to believe).
In the first place, how cannot people not think of Hilda as his wife. The moment Beel put a contract into his hand, Hilda also tied with his life as Beel’s sole caregiver. Other than that Hilda always came to school with full equipment for baby Beel’s need every time he forgot it with no shame at all, to the extent that she applied herself to his school so she can be with them closer.
A dumb idiot like Oga Tatsumi would not see the truth.
Oga, being a dumbass teenager that he is, took a fucking while for him to realized how important Hilda to him. How he disguised it as a concern that Beel had for her.
Yet this motherfucker blamed himself when Hilda got hurt. Had a whole ass dream where his inner self knew it well how Hilda deserved better and he himself doesn't deserve to be called the mighty ogre Oga Tatsumi, the Strongest Thug in Ishimaya.
Then proceed to train his ass off unlike what he did before. Destroying his body everyday just for him went by himself to fight 300 demons alone, not even having a slight idea to call back up, just because he realized the grave dangers that Hilda was in. Thanks to that asshole Jabberwock that kidnapped her.
He did all that, for Hilda.
No wonder people called Hilda his wife. Because only him had zero idea how much he cared for the girl.
Despite his small tiny brain that he has, he still has a heart to realize one thing. Why in the actual shit everything like this always happens to Hilda? (- getting stabbed, kidnapped, losing her memory).
It made Oga mad beyond anything, he should be the one that they targeted. Being the so-called baby demon lord’s contractor. Not her, the selfless, caring, loyal servant for Beel. The one person who cared for that baby, more than that baby’s family is capable of ( -he's only 1 and half when he first met Beel!).
But it did not stop Enou; Beel's Brother, to send all of his army to hunt Hilda. What a loser they are, to target one person, when they themselves have hundreds behind that snotty brat.
Hilda would not be in that position, if only Oga was stronger.
For the first time in his life, he found himself to feel defeated. To fail to protect the people he wanted to protect the most.
Since the moment Oga felt the euphoria of fighting at the young age of 10, Oga always stood with his two feet with full power with no worry of someone behind his shoulder. After all, he's always standing still alone. Then Furuichi came, but even then that jerk chose to stand beside him and despite his weak ass mentality, Furuichi is a survivor. So he's never been Oga's concern.
After almost 7 years, Beel and Hilda suddenly showed up, where one of them literally clung to his shoulder all day long. While the other, he could only hope he could protect again before it's too late.
Oga never denied Hilda's power though, she's capable on her own. With her blade, speed, and no mercy policy that she has upon humans. Even Aoi Kunieda never had the chance to defeat her.
But one thing he knew best about Hilda, is that Hilda never wanted any of this. All of this, just part of responsibility as the royal servant to accompany their master to be the best of the best. Hilda even one time confronts him, why Oga denied to raise Beel to destroy the world (-to which he answers, as something that just came into his mind at the moment). To his demise, Hilda did punch him, but Hilda also just accepted that reason became what Beel wanted and Hilda only wanted Beel to be happy.
From that, Oga realizes how unfair life is for her. Especially one time he found Hilda spending her time entertaining baby Beel with lots of love and kisses in the small moment that they have together. Right there at that moment they are just Mother and son, spending time together with each prayer on the kisses that the mother gave to him and laughter that they shared as a memory they would cherish forever.
Hilda didn't want humanity to be destroyed. She just wanted to have more time with Beel, like any mother wanted for her son.
And again, Oga found pieces of his destroyed humanity within Hilda. Which made him promise, he will protect that small happiness she had, even if it means sacrificing his own.
.
.
.
When he promised himself that he will protect Hilda and Beel's happiness, even if it's mean to sacrifice his own, it doesn't mean it was easy for him to do.
It was hard. Like losing a save file on the furthest check point of his video game. He wanted to destroy anything just not to feel. Losing the 2 existences that fill the void of his hollow soul after all the discrimination and misunderstanding, just because he is strong and dumb, really took a toll on him. They stitch the pieces of his scattered humanity and it took everything in him not to cry and hug them tight when he left them.
Since Hilda and Beel came to his life, they have become his first priorities. A reason for him to be stronger than ever. To be able to protect them, not merely just for a fight of fun and euphoria. But to protect.
They are after all, his world and everything.
His mind went back to all the moments they shared together. Walking at night to the convenience store, seeing Hilda enjoying her habanero bun, Beel singing the rice bowl-kun anthem, and him just sitting quietly across them eating his own crochet. It was simple, calm, but it was everything to him.
These 2, made him feel warmth again. Made his world go upside down and filled his life with all the happiness and chaos he hardly expected. And a simple walk to the convenience store was enough to make them happy.
It occurred to him too, how could a 16 years old like Hilda have to shoulder the burden of raising a demon's lord baby? Not only that but also to make sure the baby becomes the demon king, with all the death threat surrounding her in another world so different than her own.
What makes it worse, all of this just a set up. Since the beginning, Oga Tatsumi has already been appointed to be the Beel's contractor, even before they met. He was the perfect contractor, as he's dumb but strong.
It also meant, they also plan to hurt Hilda in the process. They called it a part of the Demon King lesson. What an ass they are! Hilda has to raise Beel alone but she also has to suffer too in order to make sure the baby grows stronger???
What crueler truth than that is that, the one behind this shit ass plan was Beel's mother. The one Hilda looked up to and promised to protect.
He knows that the lady was also manipulated too by the real person that controlled her. BUT SHE'S THE KING'S WIFE DAMMIT! SHE'S DEMON LORD'S QUEEN! Shouldn't she have more power as much as that childish Demon King?
But nope, that woman just let Hilda be hurt and hurt again and again.
So he needed to stop that.
He needed to let them go, to fail their goal. To break his contract with Beel, so no further plan they will arrange that will hurt both of them.
By sacrificing his happiness - he let them go.
When he went back from America, he felt emptiness after such a very long time. His room is quiet without any sound of that annoying cartoon that Beel watches 24/7, or even Hilda's flipping her book in the corner of his room and yelling at him to clean his smelly bed.
Everything feels so - empty. Too suddenly, without any proper goodbye and last words.
Just like that, his world stops.
.
.
.
Apparently, the world did stop.
His family turned into stone just like the entire town and his friends that were frozen in patriotic and brave poses.
That bastard, Fuji, still attacked the school while he's away confronting the master of all these shit shows. Oga even hasn't had the time to process the loss of the people he cherished most.
For that, Oga Tatsumi gave everything he got in this fight.
Because by winning, he will finish this nonsense once for all.
Become the strongest, for Beel and Hilda, so they will come back to his arm.
