2nd work for Femslash February!!! Sorry that it took so long, Life Happened and I had some trouble working up the motivation to finish the written portion.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Thwack! - Takane had opened up her umbrella way too early, the sound of the metal hitting the door frame reverberated violently. Before she had even processed what was going on, Ayano felt something settle in the pit of her stomach.

"Ah, shit! My bad!" Takane shouted instinctively, her silhouette framed by the rainstorm raging outside the glass door. The two of them practically recoiled at the sight of the now-totally-screwed umbrella, the frame bent desperately out of shape. "I, uh, wasn't thinking... I figured that we'd get less wet if I opened the umbrella up before we headed out into the rain."

"Didn't you know that it's bad luck to open an umbrella indoors?" Ayano chided, keeping her tone light. Internally, however, she couldn't help but consider this completely catastrophic. There'd been too much bad luck lately. She couldn't possibly afford any more, not now, not when--

"Ugh, don't remind me!" Takane grumbled back, visibly riding the thin line between "flustered" and "frustrated". Ayano stared almost fixedly at the scene.

It was so very normal, just as the rest of the afternoon hrad been. She'd asked Takane to come out shopping with her, and Takane had obliged. She hadn't needed anything in particular. She just wanted to spend time with her. That was all.

Resigned, Takane sighed, "We're totally gonna have to book it to the nearest bus stop," closing the statement with a goofy grin.

"Mhm..!"

Attempting to not get too wet and get to the bus stop as fast as possible had been a pointless persuit. They had tried to huddle under the wrecked umbrella, but the damage that it took during the collision with that doorframe was bad enough that it could barely cover the two of them. Trying to stay underneath the umbrella had them tripping over one another, slowing both of them down while they still regularly slipped right into in the storm's line of fire. Ayano hadn't even dressed for rain, meaning that she got totally soaked. It was a hectic and miserable trip even though they couldn't have been more than two blocks down the street.

Takane wiped down the bench with the sleeve of her windbreaker, making a clear-ish spot for the two of them to sit in. The bus stop had an awning for them to sit under, but the storm was raging hard enough that the wind would still carry some rain underneath. She heaved out a sigh, visibly tired. She sat down, gesturing for Ayano to sit next to her. Ayano scooted up to her, close enough that she could feel Takane's warm breath. It felt a lot nicer than she'd ever admit, being so near to Takane. Ayano tried desperately to push away any thoughts of how she might never get to feel that way again.

Takane smiled at her and threw her arm up over Ayano's shoulders. "It'll be a while before any bus gets here, huh," She was blushing a little bit. Ayano couldn't tell if it was because Takane was, well, feeling the same as she did, or because she was winded. Ayano assumed the latter, but accepted the embrace readily.

"Yeah, and it's pretty cold..." Ayano murmured, throwing herself over Takane and letting the gentle warmth that enveloped the two of them say the rest.

An illustration of Ayano & Takane sitting at a bus stop, each with one arm wrapped around each other. They're both smiling, somewhat warily. It's raining. The illustration is digital and in black and white.
