Summary:

Three vignettes from Luz and Amity's lives together, focused on their Azura and Hecate costumes.

Pairing: Amity Blight/Luz Noceda
Prompt: Time travel OR partner costumes

Notes:

I'm delighted to get this pairing with these prompts, where we've seen both of them explored in canon.

Work Text:

Luz sighed loudly in disgust, flopping onto her bed, a white jacket with purple trim in hand.

“What’s the matter, sis?” Hunter poked his head into Luz’s bedroom. “Everything okay?”

“It won’t fit!” Luz moaned, flailing the offending garment around like a flag of surrender. She scrubbed her face with her other hand. “It was kind of a squeeze last year but now I’ve been working out and my shoulders are broader, and I got a little taller, and if I try to wear my costume again I’ll tear it for sure.”

“So…wear something else?” Hunter had discovered the joys of owning more than one outfit, and was a white dude with an average build, which meant he could choose from a truly unfair range of outfits.

“But Amity and I have worn the same costumes to AzuraCon for the past three years! It wouldn’t be the same if I wear something else! Especially if she shows up as Hecate! What will she think? What will people at the con think?”

“I…don’t know?” offered Hunter, who had really just been trying to be supportive and now was quite certain he’d gotten in over his head.

“They’ll think I’m a fake fan girl, Hunter!”

“Okay, look, this is an easy problem to fix. I’ll just tailor it a bit. Throw it here.”

“You’re a lifesaver, Hunter,” Luz breathed, then, after a beat. “...would you mind doing my trousers, too?”

“Babe, we should get married in costume as Hecate and Azura!” Luz gushed.

Amity raised an eyebrow. “You are kidding, right?” Usually she could tell with this sort of thing.

“What would be more meaningful to us? A couple of generic white dresses we’ll never wear again?”

“I don’t know how our guests would react to an Azura-themed wedding,” Amity countered.

“Eh, it’s our big day, not theirs. Besides, they know we’ll go all in on whatever they do.” Luz elbowed Amity, winking. “There’s gotta be a couple hot alien space babes from Cosmic Frontier we could go as, right?”

Amity snorted. “Please tell me Hunter isn’t actually planning a Cosmic Frontier wedding. Or Gus, for that matter.”

Luz’s face fell, but only briefly. “Well, no. But it’s the principle of the thing!”

Amity giggled at her girlfriend’s enthusiasm. “I feel like there’s one important thing you’re forgetting before we get married in costume.”

“Oh?”

Amity dropped to one knee and produced a small box, opening it to reveal a silver ring. “Luz, will you make me the happiest witch, wherever we find ourselves, be it Earth, the Boiling Isles, or the Field of Deadly Fates?”

Danielle was practically bouncing out of her seat. “I can’t believe you’re finally taking me to AzuraCon, moms! Are you excited? You don’t look excited.”

“We’re excited,” Amity promised, even as she shared a fond look with Luz - where had the years gone? Had they ever had that much energy? “In fact, we’ve got a special surprise for you.”

Danielle’s eyes widened, somehow, still further, as Luz produced a much-loved pair of costumes. “We thought if you, and maybe a friend wanted to go together - we had your Uncle Hunter take them all the way back in for you.”

Tears welled up in Danielle’s eyes. “But what about you two? You always go as Azura and Hecate!”

“We’re going as Malingale and Morrigan this year,” Luz explained.

“Specifically,” Amity added, “Malingale and Morrigan from the live-action reboot–”

“--as played by the voice actors of the original Azura and Hecate!” Luz finished. Danielle, still feeling a bit overwrought from the sudden swing in emotion, just dried her eyes with her sleeve, beaming. “Really, sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same.” Amity smiled back at her, fond as ever.
