Chapter Text
Chilli has just arrived home with her daughters in the car, taking Bluey to the house, while Bingo remained in the car. Once Chilli opened the entrance door and Bluey got in, she told her:
"Okay, honey, I'm leaving now with Bingo for the party at Missy's. Daddy takes care of you while I'm gone. Don't be too much of a trouble maker, okay?"
"Okay, mum" Bluey replied.
Chilli kissed Bluey on the forehead and then closed the door. After she did that, Bluey, smiling, climbed the stairs and went to the family room, where Bandit was comfortably lying on the couch reading his newspaper.
"Ah, this is the life…" he said. "Just me, a couch and a newspaper… no kids around."
It was then that he heard the unmistakable sound of hasty little steps that he recognized so well.
"And the peace is over" he said, while continuing to read.
Bluey arrived, approached Bandit and said:
"Hi, dad…"
"Whatever you want to play, it can wait until I finish my newspaper" Bandit replied, without taking his eyes from the newspaper.
But as he tried to read it, he couldn't help but stop noticing Bluey keeping looking at him with her smiley expectant face. That didn't let him focus on his newspaper. Sighing, he said, while sitting up and putting down the newspaper:
"Fine… What's the game, this time?"
"Cricket!" Bluey exclaimed.
"Oh, cricket…" Bandit said, without enthusiasm, before realizing what his daughter had just said. "Wait, what did you say?"
"Cricket" Bluey replied.
Before that answer, Bandit could feel an immense sense of joy invading him, unable to contain a big smile and then shout, while getting up:
"Yeah, cricket!"
Bluey: THIS EPISODE OF BLUEY IS CALLED "CRICKET"
"Oh, I can't believe this moment has come…" Bandit expressed, sentimental. "The moment when one of my dear daughters finally shows an interest in the noble sport that is cricket. I just… feel so happy…"
But then he stopped, as a feeling of suspicious regarding the sudden interest of Bluey on cricket started to appear in him.
"Wait a minute…" he said. "I thought you didn't like cricket. Every time I try to watch a game or try to have you and your sister to watch it with me, you always come up with a game to either distract me from the game or for you two not to see it. Why the sudden interest?"
"Can't I just have come to like it too?" Bluey asked.
But after Bandit made a serious look at her, Bluey sighed and said:
"Okay, is this what happened…"
Earlier that day…
Bluey was with her friends Chloe, Indy, Honey and Coco walking around the grounds of the park, with the former asking the others:
"So, what do you guys what to play to?"
But the girls just shrugged their shoulders.
"Seriously?" Bluey asked. "Not one idea?"
"Normally it's you who come up with the games, Bluey" Honey said.
"Yeah, we kind of got used to that because they are always so fun" Coco added.
"But I can't be only one with game ideas" Bluey said. "Chloe, what about you? Remember our princess game? You came up with part of it."
"Yeah, but that was after you gave the first idea" she replied.
"We could play one of the games we've already played" Indy suggested.
But seconds later, all the girls dismissed that idea, finding boring repeating one game they have recently played.
At that moment, a ball landed closed to Bluey's feet, which she caught, asking:
"Where did this come from?"
"Bluey, can you give us the ball?" a voice asked
They all turned around and saw that who had asked was Rusty who was with Lucky, Mackenzie and the Terriers who were playing cricket.
"Oh, maybe the boys will let us play with them" Bluey said to the girls.
"Yeah!" they all exclaimed.
Bluey and the girls approached the boys, with the former passing the ball to Rusty, while saying:
"Here you go, Rusty."
"Thanks, Bluey" Rusty replied, turning then to the other boys. "Okay, guys, let's resume the game."
"Hey, Rusty, can we play with you" Bluey asked Rusty, as he turned to her.
"Wait, you want to play cricket with us?" Rusty asked.
"Yeah, why not?" Bluey asked.
"I don't know…" Rusty replied.
"What you mean with I don't know?" Indy asked. "Either we can play or not."
"Don't take me wrong, but cricket is not exactly a girls game" Rusty said.
"What?!" the girls asked at the same time.
"Excuse me, but we can play cricket" Bluey replied, while the other girls nodded with their heads.
"But you don't even know the rules" Rusty said, as the other boys approached.
"We can learn them" Honey told.
"There's more into cricket than just know the rules" Lucky said.
"Yeah, it's not something you can learn just like that" Mackenzie added.
"Please, it's just a game" Bluey replied. "We can learn how to play it."
But that just caused the boys to release some chuckles, what really upset Bluey and the other girls.
"We can play the game and we can prove it" Bluey replied. "After we learn the game, we will play a game with you and we will show you how good we can be."
That caused the boys to trade a look and then they all gathered together to discuss what Bluey had just said. After a few seconds, they split up and Rusty said:
"Okay, one game, next weekend. Let's see what you girls can do."
He and Bluey both shake hands, sealing the deal.
"But don't think we're going to be nice with you just because you're girls" Lucky said.
"As if we wanted that" Bluey replied.
With that, Bluey and the girls both moved away. As they did it, Chloe asked:
"Bluey, why did you challenged the boys?"
"Yeah, we don't even anything about cricket" Coco told.
"I couldn't just let them say that about us" Bluey replied. "I know we can show them we can also play if we just get to learn how to play."
"But how will do that if we don't even know the rules?" Honey asked.
"Unless you know someone that can teach us" Indy told.
Bluey thought for a moment and it was then that she remembered the one dog that could help them.
"That's it!" she exclaimed, while wagging her tail in excitement. "I know who can help us!"
In the present…
"So let me guess this straight" Bandit said. "The only reason you want me to teach cricket to you and your friends is because you want to beat the boys and prove you can also play?"
"Ah… yes" Bluey replied. "Can you help us?"
"Um, let me think…" Bandit said, while making a thinking face. "No…"
"What?!" Bluey asked, caught by surprise with that answer, as her father took his newspaper and rolled it. "But dad…"
"Sorry, mate, but when you asked me to play cricket with you, I really thought you wanted to learn it because you were interested in it" Bandit said. "Now that I know you just want to beat the boys to prove a point, I just can't do it."
He started to head out of the family room, with Bluey saying:
"Oh, come on, dad!"
"Sorry, Bluey, just get another way to prove the boys wrong" Bandit replied, as he got out.
"You know, I'll find a way to convince you!" Bluey shouted.
"You can try, but it won't work!" Bandit's voice was heard saying.
