Kristy gave her phone a nervous grin and held up an orange, walking toward her husband. "Hey, Matt?" Her voice was soft as she looked at him, tilting her head.
Matt looked up from his phone and smiled, straightening his back. "Yeah, honey?"
Kristy pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh. "I have a problem." She told him and bit her lip.
Matt's smile dropped instantly, stepping toward Kristy. "What's wrong?" He asked, his furrowed eyebrows showing wrinkles in between his eyes.
Their oldest son, Jake, stepped forward with a frown on his face, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I really wanna eat this orange," she held up the orange in question, "but my hands hurt too much to peel it." She pouted.
"Oh." Matt brightened up and grabbed the orange, taking it away gently. "I can peel it for you!"
"I want an orange, too." Their daughter, Lily, piped up.
"I'll get it for you." Jake nodded and walked to the fridge to grab an orange.
"Oh, that's very sweet, Jake." Kristy smiled, watching Matt and Jake go to the kitchen counter.
"Come here. Lemme show you how to peel them." Matt grabbed two knives and handed one to Jake, beginning to peel the orange. "See, you gotta start by getting it down the middle like this."
"What the-" Kristy laughed softly and placed her hand over her mouth, sharing an amused look with Lily.
"Make sure you get all the white stuff off. Lily doesn't like the taste of that." Matt instructed, tearing the pith off by hand once he separated the individual slices of the orange.
"Oh, I see." Jake nodded, his tongue poking out of his mouth in concentration as he meticulously picked the pith off the fruit.
"There you go! Now you arrange the slices nicely on a plate, like so." Matt carefully placed the slices on a paper plate with jungle animals lining the edge and presented it to Kristy. "Your orange, madame." He grinned, putting on a fake accent to make her smile.
"Why, thank you, kind sir." Kristy gave a delighted laugh and shook her head fondly as Jake did the same for Lily and walked to the couch, a wide smile on her face as she stared at her phone. "You guys, I hit the jackpot with my man." She looked back at the kitchen to see Matt animatedly telling the kids a story and smiled, taking a bite of her orange.
