Aaron cleared his throat and smoothed down his burgundy polo shirt, taking a deep breath as he gave his phone a serious look.
"Hello, children of Tiktok. I know the holidays can be rough, maybe your dad won't accept you for who you really are, which is awful." He started, his lips in a tight, straight line. "Or maybe your dad's just not around."
Jack turned his head as he overheard his father's voice from the hallway and peaked through the cracked open door, his step father in tow.
"For the kids who don't have one, or just have a really crappy one, I'm your father now." He announced. "Dinner's at six, so be home by four. And stay off your PS5 until you finish your homework. I love you."
"Dad, are you adopting neglected kids on the internet again?" Jack asked as he walked into Aaron's home office.
Like a deer in headlights, Aaron froze with wide eyes and bit his lip. "No..." He lied, his voice an octave higher than usual.
"Aaron..." Dave scolded his husband, giving him a knowing look. He smiled, his eyes fond.
Aaron frowned and slumped his shoulders with a nod. "Yes."
"Dad!" The teenager huffed before walking in frame with a fond roll of his eyes and waved at the phone. "Hello, new siblings. My name is Jack. Dad and papa say no negative self talk, and no scary movies before bed."
"Eat some food and go to sleep. We love you." Dave said through laughter. "I am your glucose father now." He grinned, mischief in his eyes.
"Papa!"
Aaron let out a cackle and slapped a hand over his mouth, his eyes sparkling.
"I regret ever teaching you gen z lingo!"
"I'm sure you do, Jack!" Aaron shook his head, giving his phone a wave. "Bye, TikTok."
