Mr. Morgan

Summary:

A letter, unsent, to one Silas "Shepherd" Morgan.

Work Text:

Mr. Morgan,

I want to be honest with you, I've thrown out and rewritten this letter more times than I care to admit. The act of finding the words to express my gratitude and sorrows to you leaves me on my knees. When I am vague and talk in metaphor about all we have been through, I feel like I am doing you and Sarnax a disservice. When I am clear and explicit in my words, each sentence feels like I am reliving those final days all over again. Ilmater knows how it feels to you, I won't ever pretend to understand how you must be feeling.

His tree continues to thrive Shepherd, from seed to sapling, our dear Sarnax and his Gherix remain tethered to this land, for better or worse. From the ashes of all that took place here, I am feeling a sense of hope from all of the townsfolk. Though sometimes I can barely see it myself.

Still, I'm so glad that you decided that little Thomas had a place with you back in Yona. His adventurous heart and brave soul will thrive in such a varied society. I don't have any understanding of parenthood personally, but I know that you often doubt yourself. I think you need not worry, that boy would follow you anywhere. He has heart and strength and I am certain you will teach him how to be an honourable, helpful young man over the coming years. Do be careful though, the boy has an alarming enthusiasm for knives ever since we came across him.

I heard from the professor not long after we all parted ways, I don't know if you had. He appears to have made it home well enough, though like all of us, he certainly didn't make it unscathed. Something about the way he wrote in his last missive felt… different, though how, I can not quite express. Perhaps returning home gave him some new perspective, though I don't doubt that Arabelle has made things interesting in that regard.

Please, give my love to little Thomas, I do hope he is settling in just fine.

In gratitude and hope,

Victoria Isaacs.

PS. I light two candles every night for them, Shepherd, they will not be forgotten. The light will not go out this time.
