a fallen flower always regrows

Summary:

Hua Cheng, the god of luck and gambling, lost his memory many centuries ago, remembering only the past eight hundred years, although the first few centuries after his ascension were also hazy.

One day, he descended to the mortal realm, ultimately deciding to take some time to be alone, climbing a mountain nearby. He stumbled across a small, isolated shrine, tended to by a young shrine master.

Xie Lian, a calamity feared by the three realms, finds himself in a situation he never imagined he'd be in— smiling at the man whose death pushed him over the edge.

Notes:

yippee it's finally published!!! this is my first published fic in a very long time, as well as my first ever tgcf fic! im already having a fun time, so I hope whoever happens to stumble across this story will enjoy!

I would like to apologize profusely in advance and start the fic off by saying I am not a reliable writer. I am, unfortunately, one of those authors that may not post for a concerning amount of time, for I am frequently attacked by the terrifying, ever-present, menacing... writer's block.

but, I hope to keep up this rhythm for as long as possible, as I am genuinely really enjoying writing this fic! while not remotely an original concept, I am very happy to finally be getting my silly au out there!!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Eight hundred years ago, there was an elegant, prosperous kingdom.

They were known for their riches and extravagance, but most of all, they were known for their crown prince.

The crown prince of this kingdom was beautiful, and skilled in both cultivation and the arts. By the way he was worshipped and described, one could have believed he was a god.

And then, at only seventeen years old, he ascended to heaven and really did become a martial god. He was so talented, even the Heavenly Emperor himself took an interest in him. Many believed him to be the luckiest boy in the three realms.

Three years after his ascension, his kingdom fell into ruin.

An epidemic raged through the kingdom, leaving untouched only the citizens of a part of the kingdom that would later come to be the kingdom of Yong'An. Soldiers from Yong'An overpowered the weakened capital and took over.

The remaining residents of the kingdom who had not sided with Yong'An blamed their god, their crown prince. If he couldn't cure them or save their kingdom, was he any better than a lowly god of misfortune?

This crown prince attempted to save his kingdom and failed. He was banished for descending from heaven to help mortals, and his efforts were for naught.

Soon after his banishment, the crown prince of this kingdom turned his back on the world. He attempted to summon the disease that had plagued his kingdom, killing his one of his believers in the process. Some rumours say he ascended for a second time shortly after, and attempted to kill the heavenly emperor before being banished again.

For hundreds of years, cities and kingdoms were laid to waste by his hand. He became one of the four heavenly calamities, becoming known as White Flower Collecting Souls as his old name was erased by time. His eerie but docile title has led many to underestimate his wrath and evil until it was too late.

For the past century, barely anything has been heard of White Flower Collecting Souls, leaving the three realms asking the same questions: where has he gone, and when and where will he strike next?

Eight hundred years ago, a powerful martial god, the god of luck and gambling, ascended.

After he was mortally wounded performing a selfless act in an intense battle to save his people, he ascended before he could perish and his healing was personally seen to by the Heavenly Emperor himself.

This god, Hua Cheng, is as mysterious as he is powerful. Nobody knows where he came from, or what battle he was in. Everyone, however, knows that he is missing his right eye. Some say he dug it out in a fit of madness; others say it was a wound caused by the battle.

Only a couple of centuries after he first ascended, Hua Cheng destroyed the lair of one of the four Heavenly Calamities, causing it to rain blood. He earned the title Crimson Rain Sought Flower when he used an umbrella to shield a lone flower from the bloodbath.

Now, he is as feared as he is revered. In some locations, he is respected, and prayed to as an all powerful being. In others, he is a story to keep children in line. No matter what you think of him, one thing is for certain:

You don't want to make Crimson Rain Sought Flower angry.
