Work Text:

It was a playdate day for Leah. One of things that she always looks forward to because she gets to see her best friend. Her best friend, Cybil, was visiting her at Leah’s house on this day. Sherlock and John were also in attendance at Aziraphale and Crowley’s home, too. It has been three years since Leah and Cybil first met in the park for the first time that day. The two have grown very close. So have the four parents. Aziraphale and Crowley thought it is nice that their child has a very good friend.

Sherlock and John are also glad that Cybil has one as well. At the moment, the two young girls were in Leah’s room, playing with Leah’s guinea pig. While they were having fun, Leah could not shake off a feeling that she has been having for some time. And Leah thought it was a good idea to talk about it with her today. She suddenly looked at Cybil.

“Cyb?” Leah suddenly spoke up. Cybil looked back at her.

“Yeah?” Cybil asked. Leah hesitated for a couple of seconds before he spoke to her again.

“Have I ever made you feel like you should not be my friend?” Leah suddenly also asked her a question.

“No. Why do you think that you are?” Cybil replied and asked her back.

“Sometimes, I just feel like I am but it has nothing to do with anything you have done. I just feel that way about myself. Even with my own parents, I feel like I am a burden to them, too. To anyone for that matter.” Leah explained. Cybil scooted over closer to Leah and the guinea pig.

“You have never done anything wrong or anything bad to me, Leah. You have been a very good person to me.” Cybil told her. Leah believed her.

“..Is there a reason why you have been feeling this way?” Cybil asked her another question. Even Leah herself did not know what exactly was causing her to feel this. It just has been the way it is.

“I have no idea why I have been feeling this way, to be honest. I guess it is just something in my brain making me feel this way and I have tried to stop it but..nothing has really worked for me at the moment. it just happened all of a sudden and I have been stuck like this ever since.” Leah explained again.

“Do your Mum and Dad know that you feel this way?” Civil wanted to know. Leah nodded.

“Yes. My mum said to me that I should just take my time to get through this. And that it is okay to be sad and feel this way. I just wish that it would go away quickly but it is not. And that is what is also bothering me, too. It bothers me that I can not shake this off.” Leah answered. Cybil suddenly laid her head on top of Leah’s shoulder. Leah did not mind this. Cybil is the only other person besides her parents that are allowed to touch her like this. Usually she freaks out if other people try but with Cybil, she was very comfortable around her.

“Leah, I am so sorry that you are feeling this but I am always here for you. I also wish I knew how to make you feel better. You will get through this. You have been so sweet and kind to me. And I will help you through this if you want me to. You are my best friend and I am glad to have you. Actually..you are more than a friend to me. You are like a sister to me the most.” Cybil spoke to her. Leah smiled. Leah felt so happy to have Cybil in her life, too.

They are truly a perfect pair when they are and get together.

“Thanks, Cyb. You are like a sister to me as well and I am always here for you, too." Leah spoke back to her as well.

“You are welcome.” Cybil said. Leah’s guinea pig let out a wheek in agreement with the two of them. Leah looked down at them.

“And we are glad that you are here, too, Mr. Squeakers.” Leah also said to him. Cybil also looked down at Mr. Squeakers, too.

“I agree. You are also very sweet like Leah, Mr. Squeakers.” Cybil added. Cybil and Leah gave Mr. Squeakers a few pets on their back.

Downstairs, the parents were sitting in the living room, just talking with one another while having tea.

“So? How has Cybil been doing lately?” Aziraphale asked Sherlock and John.

“She has been doing fine for the most part. Cybil has been trying to adjust to the new school year but she is doing good. How has Leah been doing with everything?” John replied and asked.

“Well, Leah has been going through some things but she is still doing okay. Mostly just having a little bit of a hard time adjusting to the new school year and such. I think it is just because she is hitting that stage in her life where mental and physical changes are about to happen to her. SHe also mentioned that school has not been fun for her as much as it used to be and finds it a bit boring., too.” Aziraphale explained.

“I think it is the start of her going through puberty. Just like Cybil is starting to do as well.” Sherlock piped up.

“I think so, too.” Aziraphale agreed. Crowley and Aziraphale have been reading up on women’s health when it comes to a child. And yes, Leah is at that age where things are going to start happening and changing for her.

“Though..I am just worried that Leah is never going to be able to be happy again.” Aziraphale shared one of his worries about their daughter.

“I would not worry too much about it. I mean, it is okay to worry but I think Leah will be just fine. Has she spoken to you about how she is feeling at the moment?” John said back and asked. Both Crowley and Aziraphale nodded.

“She has spoken to us about it but..we just want her to be happy.” Crowley also suddenly spoke up.

“And she will be. Even children have their phases like this. It is just her being a person. Also..Cybil has been going through it as well.” Sherlock said. John suddenly looked at his partner.

“Really?” John asked. Sherlock gave a nod this time.

“Yes. Cybil has not spoken to me about it but I have noticed things. I am not sure if she is sad or anything but..she is not as excited about stuff as she used to be. I think it is just school exhausting her but I am not sure at the same time. By the way, I think we should let her tell us when the time comes when she wants to, not having us force her to tell us. I think that would only make things worse.” Sherlock explained and suggested.

John fully agreed. It is not like Cybil isn’t good at expressing her feelings. It is just that sometimes, Cybil would just rather deal with it on her own before having to speak to someone about her problems and/or what is going on in her world.

“I think we should just be who they are and let them figure things out on their own and if they need us, then we should help them.” Crowley also suggested. Cybil and Leah are very smart children. They just express it in their own ways. John, Sherlock and Aziraphale agreed.

Back in Leah’s room, they were reading comic books together now on the floor while Mr. Squeakers was having a nap in his cage. Leah did start to feel less sad about how she was feeling when it comes to Cybi and her parents. Still, school was going to be an issue but at least, she knows how Cybil feels about her.

“Hey, Cybil?” Leah piped up.

“Yeah?” Cybil asked back.

“Thank you for helping me better understand what we were talking about a bit ago.” Leah told her. Cybil was glad to hear that.

“You are welcome, Leah. I love ya.” Cybil said back. Leah was happy to hear that she loves her. That means a lot to her.

“Love ya, too, Cyb.” Leah also said back to her, too. And as long as Cybil is in her life, Leah feels like she will truly get through this slump that is going on. It made her feel less alone. And even gave her a bit of happiness, too. Quite a bit of happiness. Leah was on the mend but for how much longer, only time can really tell.
