Work Text:
Friday afternoon finds Sky peering at a laptop screen in an empty classroom on campus. The other members of the student council have long since abandoned him, though thankfully Phayu is here. Sky doesn't mind shouldering more of the work, but it's nice to have the company.
"P'Phayu! I was worried you might have left-" Som says, clutching at the door frame.
Sky resists the urge to ask how the fourth year knew Phayu was here to begin with. It's not as if he's unaware of the man's many admirers, there's probably a LINE chat dedicated to tracking his campus sightings. So many people desperate for a chance to catch a glimpse of the architecture god himself.
A quick glance at Phayu reveals a showman's smile, the reason they all fall over themselves for him. "Is everything okay, Som?"
It takes Som a moment to catch his breath- he must have run across campus to get here the moment he saw the notification- "Phi, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there's really something you should know- I was out earlier today when I saw something but oh, I probably shouldn't tell you."
Phayu doesn't take the bait and rush to ask Som what it is that he's seen, though Sky knows the other man well enough to sense his suspicion and annoyance. It takes every ounce of restraint that Sky has not to reach over and run a soothing thumb over the back of Phayu's hand, the one that has quietly balled itself into a fist by his side- that smile of his never faltering as he waits.
Undeterred by Phayu's lack of response, Som continues on, "You're such an amazing person, P'Phayu, you're so smart and handsome, you're dedicated, you deserve the entire world-"
Sky turns his gaze back to the spreadsheet that he and Phayu had been working on before Som rushed in, the budget for next year's first year orientation. After all, there's no telling how long Som is going to continue on with the long list of compliments and Sky, Sky would like to get this wrapped up sooner rather than later.
"- which is why it just really breaks my heart to tell you that I saw N'Rain out with someone else today. While you're here, on campus, being such a dedicated senior-" here Som's voice drops down to a whisper- "he's having dinner with another man."
Som's concern would be kind, if not for the fact that Sky is aware of just how openly the other man lusts over Phayu. He's not sorry that he caught the great Phayu's partner cheating, he's salivating at the opportunity to be the one to offer 'comfort' to the man.
"Another man?" Phayu asks, as if he's not perfectly aware of where Rain is tonight.
"Another man," Som confirms, face serious. "And it's not one of his friends from school, I would have recognized him. Plus he was wearing far too nice of a suit to be a student. I didn't want to assume anything at first when I saw them together but then, the man in the suit leaned in and put his hand on Nong Rain's leg and Rain didn't try to move it away! "
"Rain's out with a man in a suit," Phayu states, tone pensive.
"Was he handsome, at least?" Sky asks. "Maybe Rain just felt sorry for him if not. Rain does have such a big heart."
Som looks confused at the question, probably annoyed that neither of them are taking this more seriously. "Isn't that your best friend? Surely you aren't okay with him cheating on P'Phayu."
"Cheating? Rain- no, surely not," Sky shakes his head, clicking his tongue a bit.
"Wait- the man in the suit- would this be him by any chance?" There on Phayu's phone screen is a picture of Sky and Prapai, Prapai's arm slung around his waist, cheek resting on Sky's shoulder. It's a cute picture from their last trip to the beach.
"I-" Som glances between the two of them- "Is that your boyfriend? Your best friend is-"
Sky is more than happy to play along with Phayu's antics, scrolling through his own camera. "Hold on, maybe it was this guy? He's not in a suit but-"
It's a picture from the last race, Prapai's chin resting on top of Phayu's head as Phayu checks over a bike. Rain had snapped the shot and sent it to their group chat along with a joke about how cute the pair looked together.
Sky can practically see the question marks over Som's head. "That's him, but-"
"Ah! Problem solved then, no reason to be concerned, Rain is exactly where he's supposed to be," Sky says, tone filled with fake cheer.
"But-" Som stutters- "No, this isn't-"
Right. Quite frankly, Sky doesn't want to hear it. Polyamorous relationships might not be the norm in Bangkok, but they're hardly the only people living like this. They're happy, the four of them, and that's the only thing that should matter.
"Is there anything else you need, Som?" Sky asks. "If not, Phayu and I would like to finish up here. We have our own dinner to get to."
"You're-"
"Dating as well? Yes, and I trust that you understand why it's not something that we talk about openly," Phayu says, reaching out to squeeze the man's shoulder. "We appreciate your concern from earlier, but as you can see, it's nothing to worry about or to tell others about what you saw."
Som opens and closes his mouth, once, twice and Sky, Sky really doesn't want to hear what might come out of his mouth next. So he turns his focus to Phayu, closing his laptop and slipping it into his bag. "Actually, we could probably finish this at your place later? Do you want to go get dinner now?"
"Of course," Phayu says, taking Sky's hand in his. "See you another time, Som."
