Work Text:

This room was too crowded, Dazai thinks. The large ballroom was packed full of men and women, dressed in extravagant clothing. The women wore flowy, poofy dresses, and the men were dressed in showy suits and ties.

Dazai himself was dressed in a suit, a velvety white one. He personally thought the thing was annoying. Too tight, and much too hot to be inside.

He had been sent on a mission, something about protecting a big shots kid, who had apparently been threatened. The whole thing felt like a sham. Dazai was almost completely sure it was an empty threat.

So, he wandered around the ballroom, careful not to bump into anybody. It was loud inside the building, everyone’s words bouncing off of walls, lively chatter, laughs, girls gossiping in the corners.

The lights shimmered above him, and soft music play in the background. He could hear fabric brushing against the ground, as people danced around him.

But when he turned the corner, all noises faded to nothing, because a certain face filled his sight.

Chuuya looked good. That was the first thing Dazai thought. He was wearing a red suit, with an intricate gold design. His red hair looked nicer than usual, framing his face.

Dazai froze, staring at Chuuya from across the ballroom like a deer in headlights. Why was he here?

Chuuya went to move, when he made eye contact with Dazai. They stare at each other for a second, before Chuuya gestures at the exit, and walks out.

Dazai follows. It’s dark out, stars filling the sky. The exit leads into a courtyard, filled with roses and well trimmed bushes. The warm light from inside looks out through the windows, lighting up the garden.

Chuuya pushes him back against a wall.

“Why are you here?” He asks, and Dazai disregards all his self respect on the spot. Chuuyas eyes are staring at him, the blue and brown picking him apart.

Chuuya lets go of his hands when he doesn’t answer. Dazai manages to remember his name, and he tells him about the mission.

Chuuya groans when he finishes. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” And Dazai tilts his head.

“I’m the one assigned to murder the bastard.” Chuuya explains, and Dazai wants to laugh, what are the chances?

“I’m afraid I can’t let you do that.” He says, and Chuuya turns to look at him, an eyebrow raised.

“Is that a challenge?” Chuuya asks, and smirks. “Do you want it to be?”

They stare at each other for another second, a new sort of tension in the air. Chuuya lunges.

Dazai ducks under his fist, and darts to the side. Chuuya lands on his feet, before he’s pouncing again.

They continue this sort of dance for a few minutes, before Dazai rushes him. He grabs onto Chuuyas wrists, and this time he’s the one pushing Chuuya into a wall.

He has his arms pinned above him, and Chuuya squirms, trying to get away for a few more seconds before giving up.

He glares at Dazai, and they’re both panting, trying to catch their breath.

But when Chuuya makes eye contact with him, he’s suddenly aware of everything around him. He can hear the music and voices inside, the wind blowing around him, the crickets chirping from inside the garden and—-

Chuuyas lips are on his, and he can’t hear anything except rushing blood.

Before he can think it through, he’s kissing Chuuya back, and he abandons holding his hands up, instead dropping them to run his hands through Chuuyas hair, tugging gently.

Chuuya kisses fervently, like he’s been starved all his life, and his lips taste like cherry wine.

Dazai drops a hand down to his waist, pulling Chuuya closer towards him until they’re pressed together.

Chuuya throws an arm around Dazais neck, tugging him closer as he sips on Dazais lips. Chuuyas other hand cups his cheek, and his palm is warm.

Chuuyas lips are sweet, and inviting. Dazai feels like he could get lost in them. Maybe he already was, the more he kissed him the hazier he felt. Chuuyas lips practically put him in a trance.

He rubs circles into Chuuyas waist, and when he tugs his hair a little rougher to kiss him harder, Chuuya lets out a small noise.

They part, and Chuuya’s face is red, he’s panting for air and god— Dazai wants to kiss him again.

Chuuya’s hand slips down from his cheek to his neck, holding it gently. He rests his head against Dazai’s chest, trying to catch his breath.

“You—“ He tries, before looking back up and Dazai. “You’re an idiot.” But he’s smiling, and Dazai would gladly be an idiot if it meant he could see Chuuya’s smile again.

“Maybe.” Is all Dazai says before he’s kissing Chuuya again.

Chuuya pulls away, “Wanna get out of here?”

—————————————————-

Chuuya’s apartment is the same as Dazai remembered, warm and comforting.

They stumble through the door, hands reluctantly leaving each other. Once they’re inside, Chuuya takes Dazai’s face in his hands.

He stares for a moment, and Dazai briefly wonders if he has something on his face, before Chuuya leans towards him to gently kiss his forehead.

It’s new, compared to the previous kisses. It’s sweet, and Dazai feels his heart melting. He pulls Chuuya closer by his waist, and rests his head on top of his.

He feels Chuuya laugh softly underneath him, and it feels right.

Chuuya gently takes him by the hands towards his bedroom, the room is dark, dimly illuminated by a small lamp in the corner.

Chuuya helps him change into a spare set of clothes, (He kept them all this time?) and Dazai helps Chuuya change out of his suit, before Dazai crawls into his bed.

Chuuya follows, and Dazai refrains from making a dog joke. Chuuya tucks himself against Dazai’s chest, and breathes in. Dazai wants to cry out of happiness, maybe hold him closer and pray he can’t leave.

Chuuya wraps his arms around Dazai’s chest, and Dazai reaches out to hold him close against him.

Soon enough, he hears Chuuya’s breathing even out. He smiles softly, before gently kissing his head

“Goodnight Chibi.”
