How did we get here?

Summary:

It's one thing to get a concussion, but it's another to wake up in a world that's not your own.

Now trapped in another dimension, Usagi has to rely on four mutant turtles to help him get him back home.

Unfortunately for Usagi, a certain charming blue-masked turtle is going to make it very hard to leave.

Chapter 1: He’s From A Different Dimension, Cool

Summary:

Footsteps began to approach him. He froze, staring at the direction from which they came. A figure stood in the shadows, a katana over its shoulders. Its eyes glowed white. Usagi swallowed down the intimidation, prepared to fight his way out of this if he had to. He knew he was capable, even in his fragile state. At least…he was pretty sure.

“Why hello there, how’d you get in here?” The voice was loud and playful. It didn't seem to be worried about the intruder in its home. The figure stepped from the shadows. It was…a turtle? But not a normal turtle, he was tall and human looking with a blue mask tied around his face.

Chapter Text

“Stupid rabbit.” The voice of the creature boomed. It took everything in Usagi not to flinch. A tentacle came flying at the rabbit, he leapt into the air, spun, and landed with precision, slicing at the long inky black tendril. The creature yelled in anger and pain.

“It’s going to take a lot more than that.” Usagi taunted. The creature roared and three more of its tentacles grabbed at Usagi. He jumped and dodged and cut one of them off. In its place two more grew. The hydra effect, wonderful.

Usagi flew backwards and out of the creature's grasp. If he was going to get out of this in one piece he would need to-

Bam.

A chunk of concrete flew at Usagi’s head, he barely managed to get out of the way only for a piece of metal to fly into his skull.

Usagi fell to the ground, his surroundings swirled and all he could hear was a high pitched ringing. He forced himself up, dizzy as he was, and held his katana between him and his attacker.

The monster snickered and slipped a tentacle around Usagi’s ankle, pulling him towards itself. Usagi clawed at the ground, but to no avail. It lifted him in the air, holding him upside down in front of it. Usagi hung limp in the creature’s grasp, his eyes going in and out of focus.

“Didn’t take much more, now did it?” It mocked him.

This is how it ends then. Usagi thought to himself. And here I thought I’d go out with style, not from some pathetic monster.

Then, for a brief moment the monster’s attention was snagged away. Now’s my chance. Usagi lifted his arm and pulled an explosive from one of his pockets. The creature looked back at Usagi, but didn’t see what he held until it was too late. Usagi flung the bomb at the creature. It detonated upon impact.

And then all Usagi could see was a bright white light.

— — —

Usagi woke up with a start. Sharp, cold air filled his lungs as he sat up and took in his surroundings. Panic began to rise within him as he didn't recognize where he was. His eyes quickly shot around the room, but he immediately shut them tight as his head began to throb. He blinked them open again, looking around slower and breathing deeply to calm himself down. He seemed to be sitting on the floor in an abandoned subway station, but for some reason the colors around him were richer and a lot more vibrant.

Empty pizza boxes were stacked against a wall and scattered around. Comic books sat open on a nearby table and skateboards lined one of the walls. Usagi forced himself to his feet. He felt light headed and had to lean against the glowing table in the center of the room.

Come on Usagi, you’re stronger than this. He tried to encourage himself.

“If you’re here because of the incident at the ice cream shop, I told that guy not to order the chocolate, but did he listen? No.” The turtle rolled his eyes.

“W-where am I?” Was all Usagi could conjure up. He wasn't sure what the turtle was referring to, but he wasn't sure he wanted to know.

“You happen to be in my secret lair.” He said dramatically. “Which, by the way, I’m still not sure how you found.” The turtle raised a masked brow.

“I…I’m not sure either.” Usagi admitted, looking briefly around again before gluing his eyes onto the mutant turtle.

“Uh huh…” He replied incredulously.

“I’m-I’m being serious. I just woke up here.” Usagi said defensively, adjusting against the table for better support.

“Did you hit your head on the way in perchance?” The turtle asked jokingly before approaching Usagi. Usagi shuffled backwards, but was blocked by the table. The turtle examined him from a few feet away. “Hm. Hey Donnie! Could you come here a second!” He yelled at the doorway he had come from.

Usagi tensed as more footsteps approached. A second turtle appeared, this one looked different than the first. His mask was purple, his markings were different, his shell was metal, and were those eyebrows?

“Yea sure what’s–uhhhh, who is that?” Donnie pointed a finger at Usagi.

“No idea, he was here when I came in. He seems confused.” The first turtle said casually and with a slight shrug.

“Ok, uh, who are you and why are you here? Or better question, who are you affiliated with?” Donnie pulled out a bo staff and a bunch of assorted weapons flung out the sides, aimed at Usagi.

Usagi stepped further back. “Whoah, I’m not affiliated with anyone. I just—ugh.” He put a hand on his head as everything began to spin.

“I think it’s a concussion.” The first turtle said to Donnie, nodding confidently to affirm his diagnosis. “He doesn’t seem to know where he is or how he got here.” He added.

Donnie sighed, putting away his tech bo. He put a finger to his chin as he too examined Usagi. “You’re probably right.” He said to the other turtle before turning back to Usagi. “What’s the last thing you remember?”

Usagi furrowed his brow. “I was…fighting someone. Then there was this bright light and…I dunno, I woke up here.” Usagi shrugged, still wracking his brain for answers. Little details were coming back, but there was big part of the puzzle he was definitely missing.

Donnie’s eye twitched. “Interesting. Leon, may I speak to you for a moment?” He pulled the blue turtle aside and began muttering something to him. Usagi tried desperately to make out what they were saying, but all he got out of their conversation was the word “pizza” and Usagi had no idea what that was or what it had to do with him.

The turtles turned back to Usagi. “Mister yokai rabbit, what did you say your name was again?” Leon started.

“Usagi. Yuichi Usagi.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Leonardo, you can call me Leo. This here is Donatello, but he goes by-”

“Donnie.” Usagi interrupted.

“Ooo, you’re quick.” Leo crossed his arms, looking impressed. Usagi couldn’t tell if he was mocking him, if he was just messing around, or if he was genuinely impressed with Usagi’s observation.

Usagi scoffed. “Listen, it was nice meeting you guys, but I think its best if I just leave.”

“Great idea! Except one thing, you now know the location of our hideout and for all we know you could be working for, I dunno, Big Mama? The Foot Clan?” Leo offered and Usagi only looked at him confused.

Leo sighed. “Look dude, I’m not sure why you’re here, or even if you know why you’re here, but considering the fact that you can barely stand without using the table for support, you should at least let us take a look at your injuries.” He said, steering the conversation in a less accusatory direction and making it seem like they actually cared or something.

Usagi hesitated, but the more he thought about what Leo said, the more convinced he was. His head was pounding viscously and he wasn’t sure they trusted him enough to just let him leave anyway. Or at least that’s the way Leo made it sound.

Donnie spoke up. “If you would please follow me to my lab, I could check the severity of your condition.” He said, his face giving nothing away. Even still, something about the way he said it made Usagi skeptical.

But, what choice did he have? He could fight his way out, sure, but in his condition that was pretty risky. Plus, these turtles hadn’t really given him a reason not to trust them, so maybe it was best to leave fighting as a last resort.

Usagi sighed. “Alright, but only because you asked nicely.” He teased, trying to keep a confident aura in hopes that they wouldn’t underestimate him.

Leo snorted and followed Donnie out of this room and into the next. Usagi was surprised when they casually turned their backs to him. Did they really see him as such a small threat? Or were they just ignorant? Either way, it didn’t really matter. Usagi wasn’t planning on backstabbing anytime soon.

They led him into a room filled with all sorts of tech. Usagi felt a little overwhelmed by the sight of it all. The bright colors hurt his head.

“Alright if I could just have you sit there.” Donnie gestured briefly to a chair as he began to fiddle with a small, strange metal device. A moment later he picked it up and approached Usagi, who held out a hand to stop Donnie.

“I’m sorry, what is that exactly?” Usagi asked.

“Oh this is just going to check your brain activity.” Donnie waved the question away as if it were silly to be suspicious of a foreign metal head piece. Usagi didn’t trust it one bit, but nevertheless let Donnie hook it up to him. He placed it on Usagi’s temple, it was cold and strange feeling. Then Donnie walked to his computer and process the results.

A few minutes passed and Donnie began messing with his computers. “Hm. It doesn’t seem to be reading properly.” He muttered in frustration, clacking away on the keyboard. “I…wait a moment.” He began typing faster. Then he sat back in a rolly chair and stared at the computer screen.

Again he sat up and began to type something and again he sat back and stared at whatever came up. Donnie then slid towards Leo and started whispering something to him. Usagi was tired of the secrecy, even though he understood why they were being that way.

As Donnie whispered in his ear, Leo turned and gave Usagi a shocked look that was followed by a fascinated smile. Usagi narrowed his eyes in turn.

When Donnie was done speaking, he went back to his computer and further studied the results.

“You said you just woke up here, magically?” Donnie asked after a minute, a hint of disbelief in his voice.

“I suppose so, yes.

“Did you happen to be fighting an inter-dimensional space alien just before?”

“I’m sorry, what?” Usagi shook his head in confusion. Donnie technically wasn’t that far off, although Usagi knew he was just being sarcastic.

“Usagi, my tech is not able to read your brain activity properly because your atoms aren’t compatible.” Donnie turned to look at Usagi, his face had lit up.

Usagi tensed and shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “What are you saying?” He asked, worried about what Donnie was getting at.

“You sir, are not from this dimension.”

Notes:

I kind of just jumped right into the storyline as I’m not one to drag things out too much. I don’t know that this will be a huge story, it was just a fun idea
