“Come on legs, you don’t need a third drink before we even go out,” Husk scolded, snatching the bottle from Angel's hand.
“Yes I do! Or are you really suggesting that we’re going to go out with all of them sober?” Angel whined. They both looked around the parlor at the rest of the residence of the hotel waiting for Charlie to tell them when they were leaving for their night.
“You got a good point, kid,” Husk mumbled, filling Angel’s glass again.
“Husk, how old are ya?” Angel suddenly asked. He rested his head in his hands, elbows up on the bar, as he waited for Husk’s response.
“What makes you ask?” Husk answered with his own question, confusion evident in his expression.
“You keep calling me kid like you know when I was born back on earth,” Angel explained, “So it feels unfair that I don't know when you were born.”
“Oh, uh, I was born in 1915. I was 62 when I died in 77,” Husk answered plainly.
Angel’s face lit up upon hearing this news. A shit eating grin spread across his face. He leaned forward to explain his reaction to Husk, but before he could speak Charlie’s voice rang out through the parlor.
“Come on Alastor! I'm even going out to the club with them. This is a group activity, so we would love to have the whole group,” Charlie pleaded. She was walking backwards in front of the radio demon batting her eyelashes like it would work.
“Still a no. I will always prefered the speakeasies back in the day. They were much better than the ‘clubs’ any of you talk about these days. Back then there weren’t as many vial additions. Just illegal liquor and a radio,” Alastor reminisced.
“Yeah and like 30 cops ready to bust down the door at a moment's notice,” Husk cut in from behind the bar, not missing an opportunity to take a jab at the man in control of his soul.
“Maybe where you would've gone. But my places never let anyone worry about such nonsense,” Alastors unsettling smile only grew wider with his smugness.
“Well we don’t have to worry about any of that here.” Charlie said. “Come on Alastor, we'll have a great night. Angel said this club would be great for all of us. So that means all of us need to be there.”
“Oh applesauce, listen bearcat I’m not going. You all can get your glad rags on and have a terrific time without me.” Alastor sternly said. He then patted the top of Charlie’s head and turned to take his leave.
“Okay, what did half of that even mean?” Vaggie asked.
Alastor continued to walk away, ignoring Vaggie’s question.
“You’re just nervous you’d be looking a bit off the cob huh?” Angel cut in, turning to the radio demon from where he was seated on a bar stool. Alastor stopped in his tracks at the remark. Turning around with a raised eyebrow and flashed the same over exaggerated smile.
“Oh pish posh my friend,” Alastor said. He tilted his head around as he spoke, trying to brush off Angel's comment. “I just don’t want to tag along.”
“Bet you’re a concrete mixer too and that’s why you don’t wanna go.” Angel accused, his accent getting thicker when the old slang terms slipped from his lips. Alastor’s smile turned a bit more devilish at the insult.
“Okay, those are English words but you both are making no sense at all.” Charlie spoke up, cutting the tension.
Husk then joined in with an explanation, “They’re using slang from the 20s and 30s.”
“Angel, since when did you look up slang from the 20’s?” Vaggie asked.
“What do you mean, look it up?” Angel asked, confused at Vaggie’s confusion.
“What do you mean, what do I mean? You died recently, right?” Vaggie asked with even more confusion.
“Eh, no,” Angel said, shrugging. “I died in 47 and was born in 1912. Dont have to look up the slang I used while I was fuckin alive.”
“You’re that old?!” Everyone, but Alastor, asked surprised.
“Motherfuckers, don’t make me feel ancient like Smiles over here,” Angel said, gesturing to Alastor.
“Is this why you don’t know how to work sinstagram?” Charlie genuinely asked.
“No! That’s because they keep fuckin taking my shit down for “violating community guidelines”. Even though Val posts my movies all the time! I know that blind asshole is making Vox remove my shit.” Angel said, throwing his arms up in frustration.
“Okay, ignoring that last part. I'm not sure that’s totally true. I had to show you how to use hashtags…” Charlie snuck in.
“Well shit, I grew up before fucking television! You think I’m really trying to figure out every feature of this bullshit,” Angel complained, as he waved his phone around in the air.
“And you don’t want to sound old?” Husk teased. Angel scoffed at the bartender as a response to his teasing.
“Besides that fact, why don’t you come across as dated as Alastor?” Vaggie asked.
“I’m famous. Do you think Val and Velvette would let me be anything but current, trendy, and not to mention sexy?” Angel ran his hands down his body and winked at Vaggie.
“Okay don’t wink at me,” Vaggie said before continuing on. “I guess that makes sense.”
“You all have to stop assuming you know everything about me,” Angel spoke. “I’m full of secrets.”
Husk’s confused voice joined the conversation again, “So that means you’re older than me?”
Angel started laughing at Husk’s question. He placed his first set of arms on the bar and rested his head on his hands as he leaned in closer to Husk, “Why do you think I wanted to know your age, Whiskers? I had a feeling you calling me ‘kid’ might not be completely accurate.”
“Well damn. You really keep surprising me, ki-“ Husk stopped himself. Angel’s face fell when the other man cut himself off.
“You can keep calling me kid if you want.” Angel said. He smiled softly at the other demon. “It’s not weird for me. If it isn’t for you.”
Husk chuckled to himself, “Well kid, I guess I will.”
Angel smiled even wider at the man, “Good. I would’ve actually been sad if you stopped.”
“Are you sharing real feelings with me now?” Husk raised an eyebrow at the kid. As he spoke he placed his head in his hands and leaned forward mimicking Angel.
“You're the one who wanted me to be less fake.” Angel said and batted his eyes at the other man.
“I think it was a mistake making them getting along,” Vaggie said, a hand rubbing her temples in and an overly exaggerated act of frustration.
“I’ll take it over them arguing,” Charlie said to her girlfriend. Then turned to address the group for the original reason they were all here, “But anyway! Since Alastor has decided to not come, should we all get going?”
