The man who called himself Currant was mysterious and strange. He had many sides that Luchika got to discover over time, one at a time. Perhaps, the one that stood out most to him was when he was overly cheerful— not because he generally didn't smile a lot, it was actually the opposite, but because Currant's general aura hid a sort of darkness that they both shared.
So, to see him in his element surrounded by people he knew from years ago was a bit baffling to Luchika, who knew little of Currant's personal life and relationships.
He was currently sitting on the floor of Currant's room, holding a cup of some alcohol that Currant insisted was the best he had tasted but Luchika wasn't thrilled about. Next to him was Currant himself, excitedly talking to his friends, who were just as eccentric and particular as him.
Luchika had quickly agreed to having a sleepover in Currant's room and getting to know the kind of friends he had, but he didn't really know how to act in that situation, his personality being more reserved than Currant's. Besides, when those three were together, they were really loud…
Not to mention, he wasn't sure if young teenagers were allowed to stay in the dorms. Apparently the three of them had been together since Cran was ten, and Luchika hadn't had the guts to ask about the story behind it. Ras was a bit more well-behaved than the teen, as would be expected from another adult, but that was until Cran made fun of him in any way and a loud fight started between them.
Sensing that Luchika was feeling out of place, Currant sat a bit closer to him, taking a sip of his own cup. ''You see, they were both against meeting you at first.'' He said in a quiet voice while the other two bickered over some card game they were playing or something. ''I think they were jealous.''
''Jealous?'' The word caught Luchika's attention, and he raised an eyebrow.
''You could say they both look up to me, and they tease each other about it or fight for my attention. So when I, who had never had a proper relationship before, got a lover… They couldn't believe it.''
Luchika wondered why had Currant brought him here if that was the case. He didn't want to be on bad terms with those two, but he didn't see the need to get along either if that was how they were feeling about him. In fact, that sort of competition for Currant made him have intrusive thoughts that reminded him of his old, bitter self.
However, Currant continued talking. ''But they wouldn't be acting so naturally if they weren't comfortable. When I first met you, they were a lot more awkward and rough around the edges.''
''They could have a bit more restraint in front of a stranger, though.''
''They would, if you were a stranger. With how much I talked about you to them, you probably don't feel like one.''
Luchika turned his head to Currant, eyes widening. ''You talked about me?'' It wasn't such an odd thing to say, but he hadn't taken Currant for the type to do that sort of thing.
''But of course… Did you think I was ashamed of you or something? I can talk hours and hours about you and the time we have shared together.''
The more Currant said, the more Luchika felt his face heating up. He said 'of course', but he had rarely talked about other people to Luchika, almost not at all. That had to mean that he was truly special to him, and to Luchika who wasn't used to that feeling, that sort of treatment made his heart race. He was still a hopeless romantic at heart, after all… Each of Currant's romantic gestures made his chest flutter.
''Hmm…'' Luchika simply hummed in response, trying to hide the blush in his cheeks by chugging a bit more of alcohol. He wouldn't act cheesy in front of other people. Besides, knowing Currant, he was probably aware of how his words made his lover feel— he always knew what he was doing.
''Currant.'' In front of them, Ras was trying to push a sleepy Cran away from him. She kept pushing her weight onto him and he couldn't take it anymore. ''I think it's time to head to bed, I swear she's doing it on purpose.''
Currant nodded and got up, tying the place enough to sleep comfortably with Luchika and Ras helping him out. Each pair would share a bed, and even before Luchika and Currant were ready to sleep, Ras and Cran were already snoring softly. They really got along well despite their bickering which was a bit heartwarming to see, although Luchika had other things to think about at the moment.
Still with a soft tint of red in his face, perhaps because of the alcohol, Luchika held onto Currant and flopped into the bed with him, burying his face into his chest and shoulder feeling extremely affectionate. Being so close to Currant made him realize how soft all of his clothes were, even his pajamas were silky and pretty, and his long hair was also soft to the touch.
''I love you…'' He muttered, feeling Currant's hands hug him tight, keeping him close. Luchika's clinginess was no news to him and he was happy to indulge him, especially since he was in such a good mood too.
''I love you too.''
Seeing that Luchika was comfortable and didn't want to move an inch, Currant covered them with the sheets as much as possible, then went back to hugging him. Their bodies were so warm when they were embracing, they both wished they never had to break apart.
When Luchika moved just a bit, he could hear the sound of Currant's heart beating in his chest. He pressed his ear against it, fixated in the sound, following its rhythm. It was so calming, more than anything he had heard before. The proof that Currant was alive right by his side. They were properly living together, at their pace, in their own way.
At some point, Currant had started running his fingers through Luchika's hair, making him close his eyes and nuzzle him comfortably. It didn't take him long to fall asleep just like that, between Currant's arms and feeling deeply loved, more than anytime before.
''Sleep well.'' With those words and a kiss on his boyfriend's forehead, Currant fell asleep too.
The man who called himself Currant was mysterious and strange. There was a lot about him that Luchika didn't know fully yet, but he was learning little by little. For now, he knew he wanted to stay with him for as long as the world allowed them.
Just the two of them and the beating of their hearts.
