The elder vampire gave no sign that he had heard Avid’s cry. He was already leaving, his back turned to the townsfolk as he headed out of town.
Avid was running after him before he knew what he was doing. “Um, you’re hot!” he called as he hurried after Scott, his footsteps quick, but somehow never seeming to catch up with Scott’s measured steps. “You’re really cute!”
Anything to get him to slow down. That was what Avid told himself, anyway.
Scott was already outside the gates of Oakhurst, his pale hair glowing white against the dark backdrop of the trees. If this had been any other time, Avid would have stopped at the gates, would have stayed inside where it was safe.
He knew better now, though. There was nowhere safe for him. Not when the danger lay inside his own skin.

Scott breathes in, and smells Avid’s fear. The thin scent of it cuts through the damp mouldering stench of the house and the stink of the animals outside. It seems to Scott a pale purple, like heather, heady and arresting.
Humans each have their own individual brand of fear. Avid is generous with his, for Scott. He makes it delightfully easy to draw out.

The vampire's hand slipped around Legundo's waist and up to hold his chest, keeping him steady, the other held the doctor's shoulder. His lukewarm tongue pressed gently against where the vein was, before a cold pinprick in his skin.
As the pain trickled into his neck from sharp teeth, Legundo did his best to relax. Gently leaning into the man behind him, he inhaled a shaky breath, eyes furrowed and focused on the ground ahead of him. And Owen drank deep, humming against Legundo ever so gently. Hums that spread heat through the surgeon's neck, an ache blossoming in his chest.
